Jiri Prochazka is extremely excited to get inside the octagon against Glover Teixeira and is confident that he will get the finish to be crowned the new Light Heavyweight Champion at UFC 275.

It took Prochazka just two fights to make his statement in the UFC and cement himself as a true title contender. He already has one of the nastiest knockouts in UFC history in his last fight against Dominick Reyes. Prochazka hit him with a beautiful spinning elbow and put his lights out in the second round of the fight.

Prochazka is one of the scariest strikers in the entire organization and he possesses a plethora of ways to finish the fight. His unique style makes him a nightmare matchup for anyone that stands across from him, but Teixeira is a true test for the up and coming star.

Teixeira is as scary on the ground, as Prochazka is on the feet. His dominant win over Anthony Smith and his submission win over Jan Blachowicz are two perfect examples of how great his ground game is, especially when you consider his age.

Jiri Prochazka knows that it’s his time now and He is eager to show everyone

“I’m excited, I respect him because he’s a normal guy, a true warrior. He got the belt at his age, and he has beaten many guys and has won a lot of fights against young guys, strong guys. It’s amazing,” Prochazka said in an interview with Just Scrap Radio on BJPENN.com. “Especially the Smith and Santos (wins) that’s the guys in the best shape and he proved that he is a true champion. But, it’s coming my time and I know it’s my time and I just have to do my things and my strategy. I will show my evolved self from my last fight.” (Transcribed by BJPenn.com)

Prochazka is aware that Teixeira’s gameplay will most likely be to wrestle him, but he is still confident he will get the finish. Whether it will be early in the fight or later is still a question, but he claims we will see a finish.

Jan Blachowicz

Following his first successful title defence, UFC light heavyweight champ, Jan Blachowicz, is looking to have a short break from fighting.

An impressive decision victory over Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya saw Jan demonstrate his underrated ability as a mixed martial artist. However, Blachowicz now wishes to take some time out from the sport, and spend it with his new-born son. Speaking in the post fight press conference, Jan had the following to say:

“Because I won against someone against Israel, one of the best in the world, now 20-1, he’s going to remember me for the rest of his life. Amazing, great feeling. “I’m going to take a short break, minimum half a year… If (Glover) wants to wait a little bit longer, he’s going to be my next opponent” (as reported by Aaron Bronsteter).

Whilst Blachowicz is taking some time out, he already appears to have his next opponent lined up. Light heavyweight veteran Glover Teixeira has mounted a late-career resurgence, picking up wins over the likes of Thiago Santos and Anthony Smith. Glover actually made weight at UFC 259, as a backup fighter should either Adesanya or Blachowicz drop out for any unforeseen reason. He is the undeniable number 1. contender at light heavyweight, and his veteran guile may well cause Blachowicz any number of problems.

Anthony Smith

Former UFC Light Heavyweight Championship contender Anthony Smith had almost one full year off from fighting in the octagon before stepping back in in May to fight Glover Teixeira.

Smith was the presumptuous favorite heading into the bout, but Teixeira had his way with lionheart and battered him before securing a TKO in the 4th round. Smith is going to get back in the octagon following this brutal loss and face Alexander Rakic in a couple of weeks on August 29th. Smith recently explained why he thought it was too much time off,

“Too much, I would’ve gotten in there sooner. I think historically, I do better when I’m running out there a bunch and I’m super active. I was off for like 13 months going into that Glover fight and I don’t do well with long breaks, I don’t like long breaks,” Anthony Smith said to Line Movement. “My life falls apart, my mind falls apart. I just don’t do well when I don’t have a goal. I wanted to get right back in there and I would’ve fought sooner had I been given the opportunity.”

While Smith of course know Rakic will be a dangerous and tough test, he believes this training camp and quick turnaround can only help him, “I’m healthy man and I feel good, nothing is banged up and I’m in a good place mentally. I tend to perform better coming off a loss,” Smith added. “So, unfortunately for Aleksandar Rakic that is his duty.”

Anthony Smith expects to earn a stoppage win over Glover Teixeira in the main event of UFC Lincoln.

Smith will get a hometown fight in Nebraska after speculation was the fight would happen in Brazil. For “Lionheart” he’s eager for the fight and to fight a guy like Teixeira who he respects.

“Yeah, I love it, man,” he recently told MMA Junkie. “I’m more happy with the location, for sure. But I’m happy to bring a guy like Glover Teixeira to Lincoln. There’s no trash talk; we have a lot of respect for each other. He’s not going to come in and trash my state. He’ll obviously be in hostile territory, but he’ll get a warm welcome. Nebraska people are respectful, and they’re obviously going to be cheering for me, but I don’t think anybody’s going to treat him badly. I’m excited for it.”

Smith says the lead up to the fight will not be full of trash-talking as the two respect each other and have even shared a beer together. Yet, when the Octagon door closes, he knows they will be trying to knock one another out.

“He’s one of the good guys in this sport and, especially these days, I think some of those guys are a dying breed,” he said. “He’s just always been nothing but respectful to me. He helped me out a lot in Brazil. Any time we see each other, it’s an embrace, it’s a handshake and a hug. The last time I saw Glover, we had a beer together, so there’s no beef there.

“We’re both extremely high-level competitors. I know he’s competitive and he’s super-powerful and dangerous, so you can’t be too wrapped up in how nice a guy he is, because he’s going to go out there and try to take my head off, for sure.”

In the end, Anthony Smith is confident he’ll his hand raised and eyes a fourth-round stoppage win.

“I think it’ll be a third or fourth-round finish,” Smith said. “I’m not sure if it’ll be a knockout or a submission, but I think that eventually, he’ll get frustrated and he’ll have to start taking bad shots. Whether I can take advantage of that with a submission or a knockout, I’m not sure. It’ll take me a little while.

“Glover’s a tough dude, he’s crafty, he’s been around a long time. It’s going to take a while to break a guy like that down and mentally, he’s hard to break. I do believe I’ll finish Glover, though.”

Glover Teixeira met Ion Cutelaba in a light heavyweight bout on UFC Ft. Lauderdale’s main card on Saturday night.

As always, LowkickMMA will have you covered with all the results from UFC on ESPN+ 8 from Florida as they happen.

Teixeira (28-7) has alternated between a win and a loss since beating Rashad Evans back in April 2016. In his last outing in January he defeated Karl Roberson. Teixeira looks to put back to back wins together for the first time in three and a half years.

As for Cutelaba (14-3). “The Hulk” has won two straight and 10 of his last 12. Perhaps most impressive – Cutebala is only 25-years-old. A win over the No.11 ranked Teixeira would kick start “The Hulk’s” 2019.

Round One

Cutelaba lands a right hand, then a knee inside the clinch. Teixeira eats it and presses forward. Cutelaba lands a spinning back fist that drops Teixeira. Cutelaba jumps on top with hammer fists. Teixeira lands a one-two to answer. The horn sounds to end the first round.

Round Two

Teixeira moves in with a right hand. He clips him with a left and a right. Cutelaba looks hurt a bit here to start round two. Teixeira doesn’t press the pace and Cutelaba looks to have recovered. Teixeira looks for a leg but Cutelaba defends and lands a hard right hand on Teixeira. However, Teixeira lands some offense of his own, he answers with a right hand that wobbles Cutelaba. He shoves Cutelaba down and moves straight to mount effortlessly. He takes his back and sinks in the hooks. He gets the tap.

Glover Teixeira Explains Why He Can’t Just ‘Bang It Out’ Anymore

Former title challenger Glover Teixeira is far from done. But the 39-year-old knows that he can’t continue to get involved in wild brawls inside the Octagon.

The last couple of years have been rough for Teixeira due to injuries. He only stepped foot in the Octagon one time last year in an uninspiring loss to Cory Anderson. A shoulder injury would keep the Brazilian from fighting Jimi Manuwa in their scheduled bout last September.

Teixeira will make his return at UFC on ESPN+ 1 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on Jan. 19. He will be taking on Ion Cutelaba in a feature light heavyweight bout.

“We have to deal with certain situations in our careers,” Teixeira told MMAjunkie. “I was injured and couldn’t fight, I last fought with a slight problem in my shoulder. I underwent intense physical therapy. My shoulder is a lot better now, compared to when I fought Corey Anderson. That’s how it goes. We have to deal with small injuries that get worse as time goes by. It’s important to have the right strategy. I can’t commit to things or fight like I used to, I can’t just bang it out. I have to be more intelligent in training and in fighting.”

Experience Will Win?

It appears you can teach an old dog new tricks as Teixeira has changed his fighting ideology up. Although he still packs one hell of a punch, the Brazilian believes his experience will be the deciding factor in his bout with Cutelaba.

“I’ll have the perfect strategy to beat him,” Teixeira said. “Between youth and experience, of course youth is better. But not in this fight. I think he’s a young guy who has a lot of learning ahead of him. I’ll beat him without a doubt. He’s not on our level yet, compared to the top five or top 10 in our weight class. Of course, he’ll have a lot of great accomplishments in his career – just not this time.”

Let us know what you think. Will Teixeira’s experience be the difference in his fight with Cutelaba, or will the youth of “The Hulk” be a bigger factor?
