Hey, Who Wants to See Another Exploding Ear in an MMA Fight? [VIDEO]

That was a rhetorical question, of course, because everybody wants to see another exploding ear in an MMA fight. Exploding ears are in our DNA, bro.

In the wake of Leslie Smith’s cauliflower ear blowing up at UFC 180, BloodyElbow has dug up an even messier clip of welterweight Rance Jones Jr. popping Dion Rizzuto’s ear at Atlas Fighting Championships 4 back in September. At the 1:14 mark, you will see a geyser of blood so propulsive that it must have drenched a few cageside spectators.

And that’s how the ebola virus began to spread in the United States.

See the Ruptured Cauliflower Ear More Disgusting Than James Thompson’s

History was made at UFC 180, and it wasn’t even on the main card! A preliminary bout between Jessica Eye and Leslie Smith produced one of the grossest visuals in MMA recently.

Eye battered Smith throughout the first round. One of Eye’s punches glanced Smith’s ear, rupturing it in the first round. In the second round, Eye kept smashing the ear, turning it into a gory mess worse than that of James Thompson when he fought Kimbo Slice.

Yeah. Damn. Understandably, the cage side physician eventually called the fight so Smith could leave the cage with two ears.

Gross Injury of the Day: Alan Patrick Pulls Out of UFC 179 Due to Horrifying Fractured Jaw

(The “before” picture, via Getty)

Undefeated Brazilian lightweight Alan Patrick has withdrawn from his UFC 179 matchup with Beneil Dariush due to a fractured jaw suffered in training. Patrick sustained the injury last Thursday while sparring at X-Gym in Rio de Janeiro. As he told Sherdog:

I was training and was hit by a knee. I was using a mouthguard, but it hit the bottom of my mouth. I have never been hit by such a knee before. It went right into my chin. Now, I will have to put a titanium plate on my chin. If I wasn’t going to be hit anymore, I wouldn’t have to do it, but as a fighter, I have to be cautious…In about a month, I’ll be able to resume doing cardio, and after another month, I’ll resume with the soft-contact training. I expect to fight in December.”

We have placed a photo of Patrick’s injury after the jump, because honestly, it’s too gross to leave on the homepage. Brace yourself…

Yep, that’s horrible. According to Patrick’s dentist, Dr. Mariana Barros:

It was an incomplete fracture of the jaw, which means only the inside bone, which holds the teeth, has broken,” Barros said. “Immediately, we were able to put it back and contain it, but the next step is to undergo surgery so we can put in a plate and make his bone stronger, so he won’t have any future problems.”

Get well soon, Alan.

Oh Great, Another MMA Fighter Snapped His Leg in Half Yesterday

(Props: Esporte Interativo via MMAFighting)

Sunday night at Favela Kombat 10 in Sao Goncalo, Brazil, a fighter named Marcos “Rino” Souza fractured his right tibia when his opponent Cristian Goetz checked his leg kick. (The announcer immediately shouts Opa!, as if his flaming cheese had just arrived.)

To quote our own Bear Siragusa, it’s not a repeat of Anderson Silva vs. Chris Weidman, it’s like some weird reenactment. I mean, here we have a dark-skinned Brazilian in yellow compression shorts — who was clearly trying to swagger-jack Andy in the first place — throwing a leg kick at his Caucasian counterpart, and paying the price with a floppy limb.

Sure, Silva broke his left leg, not his right one, but the visual is similar enough to make you do a double-take. All this video lacks is Goetz’s cornerman saying “Good, fuck’im.”

Aw, Hell No: Grappler Submits and Vomits After Being Farted on at NAGA Tournament [VIDEO!]

(Props: Mike mons via Filmdrunk)

Having never competed in no-gi grappling in my life, I can’t speak to the legalities of busting farts while an opponent is working in your guard. It seems like it should be illegal. And yet, a competitor at NAGA Vegas Grappling Championship actually scored a submission victory via horrible gas on Saturday. It must have been some truly repugnant stuff, too, because as you can see at the 0:07-0:10 mark, the loser taps out and then vomits all over the mat.

“He farted in my face,” the dude in the black rashguard tells the ref. “You farted in my face, man,” he tells his opponent. Then, he dutifully begins cleaning up his own barf with a paper towel.

We usually don’t like making sweeping statements like this so early in the year, but “Grappler Submits to Fart, Then Vomits” is a guaranteed Potato Award winner, maybe in multiple categories. You’ve just witnessed history, folks.

Gnarly Photos of the Day: Mark Hunt’s Broken Toe, Donald Cerrone’s Gashed-Up Elbow

UFC 160 may have been the bloodiest, ugliest UFC event since “Fight for the Troops” in 2008. MMAJunkie has a gallery of gory photo-highlights that you should check out if you have the stomach for that sort of thing, but we wanted to pass along a couple gruesome shots in particular.

Above, you’ll see the destroyed toe of Mark Hunt, who says he broke the piggy during the first round of his co-main event fight against Junior Dos Santos. As Hunt wrote on his Facebook fan page: “Thanks for the support apologies about the result junior was to slick for me. Got a broken toe first round and had no movement, but like i said before if i am going out i am out on my back thanks again 1luv.”

And “go out on his back” he certainly did.

After the jump: Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone shows off the literal aftermath of figuratively breaking his elbow off in KJ Noons‘s ass.
