There’s a question that almost MMA fans wants to know, and that question is when former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey will be fighting again.

Rousey lost to Holly Holm in devastating fashion at UFC 193, and the two were rumored to square off again at UFC 200 in a rematch. That isn’t happening anymore, however, because Holm will be fighting Miesha Tate in the co-main event of UFC 197 in her first women’s bantamweight title defense.

TMZ Sports recently caught up with Rousey and asked her when she will be returning to action. According to Rousey, who was in Boston on Sunday to watch her boyfriend and fellow UFC fighter Travis Browne fight Matt Mitrione at UFC Fight Night 81, she will fight later this year and hopes to fight Holm in a rematch. However, Rousey still does not know when that fight will exactly take place.

Some time later in the year,” Rousey said. “They haven’t told me an exact date or location or anything yet. It’s a decision we’re all gonna make together, but I’m kind of waiting to hear from them what options they’re gonna give me. I haven’t gotten my options yet. [Holly Holm rematch] is what I want to do.”

Check out the video here:

Rousey’s schedule is crazy right now due to numerous movies she’s filming this year. Her return is also delayed due to the injuries that she sustained versus Holm at UFC 193.

The UFC’s plans obviously could be altered if Tate beats Holm at UFC 197.

Cris Cyborg Backs Ronda Rousey: She’s Been Good For Women’s MMA

Invicta FC featherweight champion Cris “Cyborg” Justino has never had a nice word to say about former UFC bantamweight queen “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey.

The two have long been considered to be the top two female fighters on the planet, with a super fight always being discussed, but never quite coming to fruition. That idea has been put on the back burner as of now, however.

Heading into her UFC 193 (November 14, 2015) bout with Holly Holm, Rousey was a massive favorite as usual which is why fans were shocked when the “Rowdy” one was knocked out cold in the second round.

In the aftermath of such a brutal loss, Rousey has received an endless amount of negative backlash from fans, something “Cyborg” feels terrible about:

“It’s terrible,” said Cyborg, who will defend her Invicta FC featherweight title against Daria Ibragimova here Saturday night in the Invicta FC 15 main event. “When you’re there, every body is with you. I feel sorry about this. I know this, because before something happened in my career — the doping — and before everybody is with you [and then they’re not]. But I love my fans. Some fans kept with me and I’m sure she has that, too. It’s sad, but sometimes it’s good so you can see who’s with you. You can see who you really have to appreciate.” Justino told MMAFighting.

Continuing on, the Brazilian slugger admitted that she feels for the “Rowdy” one, as “Cyborg” knows the hurt feeling very well:

“This is not nice,” Cyborg said. “Losing a fight, winning — it happens. But these people make fun. … I know it’s not nice. I know she hurts now and I know depression.”

Much of the backlash towards Rousey has undoubtedly been due to the former champion’s notorious arrogance and cockiness so to say leading up to her fights. Touching on this, “Cyborg” said that losing is not the problem, but rather the talking:

“Always you can lose,” Cyborg said. “You can lose, you can win. It’s not embarrassing. It’s embarrassing when you speak before you fight. It’s embarrassing speaking bad. I think you have to work hard on what you say, because if you lose, when you come back from the airport you have to have a pillow on your face.”

Remaining relatively quiet regarding the media since her loss, Rousey’s future is currently unclear. It was thought that she would return at July’s UFC 200, but it was recently reported that she would need more time off, although it’s still thought that she will return at some point.

Despite their bitter rivalry, Justino hopes to see the “Rowdy” one back in action at some point, noting all she’s done for woman’s MMA:

“I think she’d like to use this to challenge herself and get better,” Cyborg said. “To come in and change. Something bad in life has to happen before you change and grow. I can’t say anything bad about her. She’s been good for women’s MMA. She opened a lot of doors. I know I [fought] before her, but she had opportunities and she’s handled it and helped everybody.”

Will Rousey compete again, and will the paths of these two female pioneers ever cross?

Although she may have had the toughest fight and first loss of her MMA career, but UFC president Dana White says she’s still the highest paid fighter on the UFC roster right now…

The hype train that rolled in to town to UFC 193 was derailed spectacularly by Holly Holm, as she decimated the women’s bantamweight queen Ronda Rousey with a huge knockout. The head kick that was heard around the world is still resonating to this day, as the recent news that ‘Rowdy’ would in fact pursue her movie career further, and not fight at UFC 200 as was first thought.

Holm goes on to make her first title defense against Miesha Tate at UFC 197, and it’s beginning to look like Ronda Rousey’s drawing power could start to become a thing of the past. Not so fast, according to Dana White, who says the former women’s bantamweight champion is still the biggest and highest paid star in MMA.

UFC women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey is the subject of possibly the only positive Tweet that Dana White will send out in 2015....

“Ronda means a lot to the UFC and to this sport,” White told Yahoo! Sports (via MMA Mania). “As in everything. Everything this woman does. She’s an unbelievable athlete, personality, friend, partner, you name it. Ronda Rousey is amazing.”

“Uh, yea. You know … I think Ronda Rousey is the biggest star in the UFC,” White said. “But let me tell you what, Conor McGregor is nipping at her heels.”

Even before she grew her second leg, Ronda Rousey was the most dominant female UFC star…

Talking to Sports Illustrated, the UFC president asked if ‘Rowdy’ was still the highest paid athlete, even after her crushing loss:

“It would still be true,” White said. “Yes. Without a doubt. Holly Holm is now facing Miesha Tate, which is a very dangerous fight, but if the Holly Holm-Ronda Rousey rematch happens I think it’s the biggest fight in UFC history.”

“She’ll fight in 2016,” said White. “100 percent. That’s all we’ve got. Obviously we were looking for her to fight at UFC 200, but that’s not going to happen. After 200 happens we’ll look and see what went on, what she’s got going on. If there’s any human being that deserves some time off it’s Ronda Rousey.”

White also said he’d be OK with Rousey deciding to retire rather than fight Holm for a second time:

“I’m cool with that. I care about Ronda and all the people here at the UFC as a person. The minute you start doubting whether you should fight or not, you probably shouldn’t.”

“That’s a fair question,” said White. “I think it’s to avenge the loss. That is why she would come back.”

Report: McGregor vs. Dos Anjos, Holm vs. Tate Set For UFC 197

(Meanwhile, the Rafael Dos Anjos “1:06 TKO” shirt is nowhere to be seen.)

Following his 13 second knockout of Jose Aldo at UFC 194, the future of Conor McGregor oddly seemed more uncertain than ever. His coach, John Kavanagh, insisted that he didn’t want his fighter making the huge cut to 145 lbs. anymore, while McGregor himself stated that there was “no way in Hell” he would ever give up his featherweight belt should he seek out a title fight at lightweight next. With Frankie Edgar all but refusing to fight unless he receives a shot against McGregor at 145, the UFC was left with a bit of a mess on their hands to put it lightly.

But then, things started to sort themselves out on Wednesday’s edition of when Dana White told the UFC Tonight gang that “If anyone can hold two belts, it’s Conor McGregor.” With that ringing endorsement now out there in the universe, it was pretty much a given that McGregor would challenge lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos next, which recent reports now indicate will be the case.

Details after the jump.

As first reported by Bleacher Report’s Jeremy Botter (citing multiple sources), McGregor will in fact be moving up to lightweight next to take on Dos Anjos in the main event of UFC 197 on March 5th in Las Vegas.

And not only that, but Botter also confirmed that Holly Holm will be getting her wish to fight once more before rematching Ronda Rousey, squaring off against former title challenger Miesha Tate in UFC 197′s co-main event. Which, wow. It’s getting harder and harder to be a cynical, biased, UFC h8ing MMA blog these days when looking at the absolutely amazing run they’ve been on lately. (Luckily, there’s still their Nazi-esque outfitting policy to take shots at or we’d probably have to close up shop.)

It’s worth mentioning that Ariel Helwani hinted at “a couple of big fights” being looked at for March 5th back in December, only to be immediately shut down by Dana White for being “full of shit.” Here’s hoping that he has the balls to hit Dana with a zinger like this the next time they’re face-to-face.

Ronda Rousey Has a Very Unorthodox Training Method For Her Rematch With Holly Holm

(I tell you what, if this rematch happens in ballroom dresses and heels, Holm is FUCKED.)

The rate at which Ronda Rousey has changed her tune following her stunning loss to Holly Holm at UFC 193 is enough to give anyone whiplash. Prior to the bout, Rousey was doing nothing short of calling her home runs from the plate, claiming that she would “retire undefeated” and “be known as the greatest fighter that ever lived.” Nowadays, she’s already planning her exit strategy from the sport should she lose her rematch to Holm, telling ESPN, “If I lose, I’ll be done with everything.”

And if what we’ve been hearing out of her camp is any indication, that rematch is not going to go well for her. For starters, she’ll be sticking by Edmund Tarverdyan’s side even though the government will soon be seizing all his assets. Secondly, she’ll spend at least a decent chunk of her time away from the octagon filming back-to-back movies, according to a recent interview with Lorenzo Fertitta.

Secondly, she’ll spend at least a decent chunk of her time away from the octagon filming back-to-back movies, according to a recent interview with Lorenzo Fertitta.

Details after the jump.

Speaking with Sporting News, Fertitta described his recent visit with Rousey, and it’s hard not to find his words a little ominous.

I went out to see her in L.A. Had some real good conversations with her. She is, as you would expect, very disappointed. Distraught, to some extent. She’s never lost. She never lost a fight in the Octagon. She never lost a fight in the street. She didn’t know what it was like. Right? … She is champing to be back in there. She made some commitments before the fight to make two movies. So she’s going to do that. Then get back to training in the Octagon.

We get it, commitments are commitments, but it doesn’t exactly bode well that the same person who described herself as “exhausted” going into UFC 193 (no doubt due to her plethora of media obligations and increasingly demanding Hollywood schedule) will be shooting two movies before getting back to focusing on the biggest fight of her life — especially when one of those movies is a goddamn remake of Road House. It would be like if Rocky got his ass kicked by Clubber Lang in Rocky 3, then went right back to doing Muppets appearances instead of engaging in mildly homoerotic beach sprints like a true champion.

Of course, with the UFC all but forcing Holm to sit out until Rousey is ready to fight, it’s pretty clear to see which way the promotion’s hands are swayed. If Fertitta is to be believed, however, Rousey is simply putting on that crushed, deflated demeanor in order to fool all us easily-swayed media types.

“She has options,” said Fertitta. “But let me tell you what. Ronda is the single most competitive person I’ve ever met in my life. If you don’t think she isn’t ready right now … She’s plotting her comeback. I don’t think anything can stop her from coming back.”

Anything…except Road House 2.
