Robert Whittaker is confident he will defeat Israel Adesanya at UFC 243.

The middleweight champion will fight for the first time since UFC 225 in June of 2018, while Adesanya has fought six times since February of last year. However, “The Reaper” believes “The Last Stylebender” got exposed against Kelvin Gastelum leaving the champ confident.

“If Gastelum can do that much work, I can,” Whittaker told MMA Junkie. “I like to think I’ve got a better skillset than Gastelum. I think I have a better skillset than Izzy. Let’s just see how it goes.”

Although he believes Israel Adesanya got exposed, Robert Whittaker knows he is very talented and it will be a tough fight.

“I think [Adesanya] is super deadly,” Whittaker said. “I think he’s a very talented and great fighter, but hell, I’m still up-and-coming, you know? I’m not going anywhere, anytime soon.

“Honestly, I am more excited for how I come out of this fight, for the work that I’ll put in after this fight to the fighter that I’m going to become from this fight, because every year, I’m getting better. Every year, I have harder fights, and I’ve got a lot of years left in me.”

Regardless of the outcome, all Robert Whittaker wants to do after the fight is spend time with his family.

“Obviously, I’m not looking past Israel,” Whittaker said. “He’s a very hard opponent, and honestly, it’s going to be a very hard fight, and I know this. I’ve prepared for this. But, the only sure thing that I know after this fight is that Monday I’m going to go home and see my kids. That’s it.”

In the end, Robert Whittaker is confident he will beat Israel Adesanya as he doesn’t think he will be able to withstand his pressure.

“I don’t think he’s going to be able to withstand the heat that I bring – and I’m not looking to finish him; I’m looking to drag this into a five-round war, I’m going to drag him into the trenches.

“I’m going to do what Gastelum did, but better. Let’s see if he wants to leave early.”

At UFC 243, one of the most anticipated fights of the year goes down in Australia as Robert Whittaker looks to defend his title against Israel Adesanya. It will no doubt be a massive fight, and a fight many fans are looking forward to.

It is a close fight to call for many, as Adesanya has looked unbeatable in the UFC. While Whittaker is the champion for a reason. Yet, Paulo Costa, who appears to be next in line, thinks it is a much easier fight to call and that is Whittaker defending his belt.

“Robert is a more complete fighter than Israel,” Costa said to MMA Junkie. “I think Robert will still be champion. He will defeat the fake champion, Israel. I think Robert will win by judges’ decision.”

There is no question Paulo Costa and Israel Adesanya do not like each other. They have traded shots at one another on social media. The Brazilian doesn’t believe “The Last Stylebender” is a real champion and will lose his fake belt in October.

If Costa is right, he believes he will be fighting Robert Whittaker for the title next. But, he recently had surgery.

“I had surgery on the left biceps tendon,” he said. “It was an old injury. I had to fight with 50 percent of the ruptured tendon against Romero because I didn’t have time to have surgery before the fight. Now that the fight has happened, it was the ideal time to perform surgery because I will have time to recover and return 100 percent to challenge for the belt.”

In the end, Paulo Costa is rather confident he was what it takes to beat either of them and wants the Whittaker fight to happen by the end of the calendar year.

“I will be out for just three weeks and I can fight again in December,” Costa said. “I will wait to fight for the belt. This is my time. I am next.”

Robert Whittaker and Israel Adesanya will finally settler their differences in the main event of UFC 243. The two have gone back-and-forth in interviews trash-talking each other and building up the fight.

Yet, when the two do step into the Octagon it will no doubt be a highly anticipated fight. Many want to see if Whittaker will be able to end the hype of Adesanya. Or, will “The Last Stylebender” be too much and become a UFC champion? According to the champ, he expects to hear ‘And Still’ and thinks he will finish the New Zealander early.

“That’s the biggest thing I took away from that fight,” Whittaker said to Triple M (h/t MMA Junkie). “If Gastelum can puts hands on him, I can puts hands on him. Honestly, I think I’m going to finish him. I’m definitely going to look for the finish, but I think I’m going to finish him somewhere in the second, third round.”

Although the two have done tons of interviews and press conferences, Robert Whittaker isn’t letting it get under his skin. Instead, he doesn’t care what Israel Adesanya has to say as in just a few weeks time they will get to fight.

“It’s kind of another mentality I’ve always had, is I don’t understand why we’re trash talking each other, because literally we’re going to be punishing each other within X-amount of weeks,” Whittaker said. “It’s like there’s no point. Anything you’ve got to say means nothing.”

It is no doubt a massive fight for the Oceanic region. They have an Aussie and a Kiwi fighting for a UFC belt. But, given Whittaker was born in New Zealand, many think he may have some fans from there cheering him on. Yet, he doesn’t care about any of that.

“Who cares?” Robert Whittaker said. “It doesn’t matter, because it’s only going to boost the combat sports game in New Zealand and Australia. At the end of the day, as much as we love the rivalry, we love each other a lot more than everybody else anyway, so this is going to be the biggest combat sports fight in the history of the game in this part of the world, and I’m pumped to be a part of it.”

UFC 243 is officially set for Marvel Stadium in Australia. It will no doubt be a massive event there. Given the fact that Australian Robert Whittaker will take on New Zealand’s, Israel Adesanya.

Although both fighters will have fans travel to the event, Adesanya admits he doesn’t care if he gets booed and points to UFC 234 as evidence.

“Put it this way, even if you look at 234 when I beat Silva, I’m just talking on the mic, the crowd starts booing. I told them to shut the f**k up and shove it where the sun don’t shine,” Adesanya said in an appearance on The Luke Thomas Show (h/t MMA News). “I’m not trying to be liked. I’m not looking for fans.”

Israel Adesanya is also no longer looking for approval on his fight career. He knows people say he is still hype and they are waiting for him to get exposed. So, “The Last Stylebender” knows Robert Whittaker is the good guy and he is the heel in this fight.

“And (Whittaker) said something as well. Another thing he said in the past was, ‘I care that people like him more than me.’ I could give two sh**s. I don’t give a f**k. I said it before, these people don’t give a f**k about you when it comes to group mentality,” Adesanya said. “One on one that’s different when people meet me and they get to experience a little bit of me that I allow. But when they see me walking out to the cage, I never stick my hand out and try to shake fans or whatever. I’m just there to do my job. I could give two s***s if they like me or not.

“And yeah, I know, I know people want me to lose this fight. I’m still all hype, right? I got this far six fights in…this fast, but still all hype.

“So yeah, I’m the heel in this one. He’s the good guy.”

After months of speculation, UFC 243 will not be happening stateside, and instead be happening in Australia, as many fans were hoping for. Of course, UFC 243, puts middleweight champion, Robert Whittaker up against interim middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya for the unified title.

It will be a battle of the Oceanic region as Whittaker is a proud Aussie, while Adesanya reps New Zealand.

“I have unfinished business here. See you in October, Melbourne, Australia,” Whittaker wrote on Twitter while tagging Marvel Stadium.

Whittaker first teased the announcement, while The Daily Telegraph then confirmed that it will be happening at Marvel Stadium.

Marvel Stadium holds 60,000 people, but it wasn’t an obvious decision to hold the event there. The Rugby league final is the same day as the event, so concern fan attendance would be low made the UFC think about putting in Las Vegas. But, luckily for the Oceanic region, it will indeed be happening in Australia.

“This show, it’s well overdue,” Whittaker told The Daily Telegraph. “And to have the opportunity to potentially fight in front of 60,000 people, I’m absolutely pumped.

“This fight, it’s going to be a milestone moment, not only for the Australian fight game but combat sports, period.

“MMA doesn’t often get these sorts of crowds. So to be one of the few fighters ever who gets to perform in front of an audience so large, it’s awesome.”

Do you think the UFC made the right call by having the event in Australia?

Israel Adesanya Vows To ‘Snatch’ UFC Title From Robert Whittaker

Israel Adesanya believes he can jump the line to get a title shot.

The post Israel Adesanya Vows To ‘Snatch’ UFC Title From Robert Whittaker appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

Israel Adesanya vows to become a UFC champion sooner rather than later. And he wants to jump the line in order to do so.

He believes that he can beat Derek Brunson in a middleweight bout at UFC 230 then he can get a title shot. This bout will take place on the main card portion of the pay-per-view broadcast.

The rising prospect is looking to have a breakthrough performance in this fight to get the title shot. This means that co-headliners Chris Weidman and Ronaldo Souza, who think they’re in line, would have to take a back seat.

“Right now, we need another show in Auckland, New Zealand. I feel that’s the fight (against Whittaker),” Adesanya said to MMAJunkie. “One year, I skyrocketed up the ranks.”

Adesanya’s Confident

Thus, if the up-and-coming fighter can achieve victory at this big event then he could face the winner of the next middleweight title fight. Robert Whittaker and Kelvin Gastelum are slated to fight for the title in Australia in early 2019.

“Next year I’m going to snatch the belt off Robert in Spark Arena, Auckland, New Zealand. It’s going to be historic.”

Adesanya is extremely confident in his skills to jump the line that it’s classic in his eyes. He just hopes that Whittaker can retain his title against Gastelum.

“If Robert wins against Gastelum, that’s going to be the one where it’s like the Kiwis versus the Aussies. The all-black versus the wallaby. That’s sports rivalry. It’s classic. I can leapfrog them anytime.”

The UFC 230 pay-per-view event is set to take place tonight (Saturday, November 3, 2018), at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan, New York City.

The main card will air on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET. The preliminary card will air on FOX Sports 1 at 8 p.m. ET and the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass at 6:30 p.m. ET.
