Israel Adesanya

Israel Adesanya retained his middleweight title last month in emphatic fashion, stopping the previously unbeaten Paulo Costa inside two rounds at UFC 253.

‘Stylebender’ dropped Costa and followed up with some ground strikes before the referee waved off the bout. Instead of disengaging, Adesanya decided to celebrate by humping his downed opponent. Costa and many fans have condemned Adesanya’s post-fight actions but the UFC middleweight champion refuses to accept any wrongdoing.

In an interview with MMA Fighting, Adesanya expressed his belief that anger surrounding his UFC 253 celebrations is largely down to homophobia, he said.

“I couldn’t give a f**k what they think to be honest. I didn’t even think about it. I didn’t even plan it. It was just justified. Like you know when you’re on ‘Call of Duty’ and you smoke someone with a head shot and then you go over them and then press circle, down, up, down, up, kind of tea bag them. That’s kind of what I did.

“What it is, is homophobia. People are just mad ‘why are you doing that, you’re not a man’ cause they feel inadequate. Questioning their own sexuality

Adesanya thinks his post-fight actions were justified due to the fact Costa had been really disrespectful to him in the build-up to UFC 253, he said.

“Dude said so much sh*t to me leading up to the fight, insulted me in so many different ways. That was pretty much a second after the fight was over and you expect me to be gracious? Are you f**king kidding me? I was gracious when I walked up to him and said ‘are you going to shake my hand?’ and he shook my hand and I said good fight, thank you. Thank you for the game. I was gracious when I secretly DM’d him and checked ‘how’s your leg?’ I just wanted to check on him.

“I told him on the DM, you were disrespectful, so I have to be disrespectful back. If you were respectful, then I’d be respectful but I have to make an example out of you. I let him know in the DM then he put out the video saying ‘oh I want to kill you, I want to kill you.’ Then I f**king released the DM’s saying look this is what happened when I DM’d him.”

Adesanya was keen to advised future opponents that acts of disrespect will not be tolerated.

“I’m not an assh*le,” Adesanya said. “But if you’re an assh*le to me, oh boy, I can give it right back.”

Do you agree with Israel Adesanya? Is backlash about his UFC 253 post-fight celebration homophobic?

If it wasn’t clear enough, there is plenty of mutual respect between UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya and Darren Till.

Adesanya is coming off an impressive second-round TKO win over Paulo Costa at UFC 253 last month and drew plaudits from many in the mixed martial arts world for his striking display — Till included, who hopes to face “The Last Stylebender” one day.

“I know when the time comes I’m going to beat Israel Adesanya,” Till said. “Invite the hate, but (I) cannot take nothing away from that performance: utter masterclass, utter confidence. I can take inspiration from it even though we’re rivals.

“To be able to do that shows a level of maturity that I can do that. Costa just needs to come back, whatever he needs to do. But it was an utter masterclass.”

Now Adesanya has returned the favour by praising Till’s own striking.

“I love striking, and I love the way he strikes,” Adesanya told MMA Junkie. “Very basic Muay Thai, and I mean that with all respect, but also his clinch game and his elbow game is advanced, but he sticks to his basic Muay Thai. His left kick, his left straight, the way he curves his left. Beautiful to watch and yeah I take inspiration from a guy like that just in a way who he is. ‘I don’t care, I don’t give an (expletive).’ That’s Darren Till. I take inspiration from that like yeah, don’t give an (expletive).

“When he fought [Kelvin] Gastelum, it was (at UFC) 244 in New York, I think I was there live, he fought him and he said he didn’t care if he got knocked out and I was like that’s a dangerous man. I took inspiration from that because in my fight here as well, I’ve said I surrendered, I didn’t really care what happened after the fight. All I cared about was the fight and me staying true to myself and my style and not playing it too safe, but also not going too wild, but being balanced and being true to myself.”

Many have been eager to see Adesanya and Till go at it inside the Octagon and not only because of the memes they have shared with each other in the past.

And it could be a reality soon, especially if Till gets past Jack Hermansson who he faces in a Fight Night headliner on December 5. The Liverpool native is coming off a close-fought unanimous decision defeat to former champion Robert Whittaker.

Do you think we’ll see Adesanya vs. Till in the future? Who wins?

Middleweight king Israel Adesanya and former Light Heavyweight champ Jon Jones have been in quite a war of words on Twitter this week, with each day seemingly being more explicit than the last.

While their past trash talking is well know, it only enhanced since Adesanya finished Paulo Costa in a dominating performance at UFC 254. Since then, the former UFC light heavyweight king has proceeded to taunt the middleweight champ with multiple accusations including steroid use.

“I was playing cod. I will bust a fat night tonight. Bet Jonathan looks in the mirror when he jerks off. He probably needs gas station dick pills for that too. Ol’ limp dick can’t get it up mofo.”

Adesanya then went on to dub Jon Jones as a “pathetic weak excuse for a man”, citing ‘Bones’ previous struggles with staying clean.

“A pathetic weak excuse for a man. A jizz stain in his society of ABQ Pulsing picto pussy juice cocktail I’d donkey punch you when I take your back, you disgusting homeless Santa clause looking mothafucka. Next time you’re in jail I hope you drop the soap. D X SUCK IT!”

This feud is certainly elevating and heating up by the day. The more each of these men win, the bigger and more intense this feud will get. A potential grudge match between these two champions seems inevitable, but with Jones moving up to Heavyweight recently, it could be cause for a delay in the matchup. It would certainly make for one of the biggest fights in MMA history, that we do know.

Do you think we will see Jon Jones vs Israel Adesanya? When do you think it will go down?
