Following his impressive title defense against Paulo Costa at UFC 253, Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya has been extremely active on social media producing some hilarious content as well as taunting not only his previous opponent but taking aim at a potential opponent in Jon Jones.

Jones put a stop to the Twitter interaction between the two that spanned over many Tweets stating that while he can’t help himself he realizes that replying is exactly what Adesanya wanted.

After heading back to New Zealand from Abu Dhabi, Adesanya was forced to spend 14 days in a hotel quarantine before being allowed to go back to his home. The champion stated that during this time he planned to do a whole lot of social media as before the fight he was unable to as his focus remained on the fight.

This exchange began with a tweet from Adesanya stating that he’d finished sharing memes regarding Costa and was instead preparing to go out the former Light-Heavyweight champion himself.

Adesanya then proceeded to reply to an earlier Tweet regarding a matchup between the two. This first exchange sure Jones question how confident Adesanya’s father would be in his son taking on the former champion going further to state that his coach clearly doesn’t believe he’s ready. Adesanya replied to confirming to Jones that his father had already told him how to beat him continuing to state Jones’s mother deceased would be disappointed with who he’s become.

Jones then proceeded to defend his mother and begun calling for a fight against the Middleweight champion, stating that he had said in the past he would be ready to fight Jones in 2021. This callout mostly went unphased to Adesanya who continued his tirade against Jones. The pair went back and forth tweeting about each other before Jones finally decided he had enough stating that he was just “giving him exactly what he wants.”

It remains to be seen whether a matchup between the two will ever come to fruition, at this moment the UFC has announced no plans to make the fight.

Chris Weidman

Former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman is confident that he is the man to dethrone current 185lb king Israel Adesanya who is fresh off emphatically defending his title against Paulo Costa at UFC 253.

In a conversation with Chael Sonnen Weidman stated that he would be the first man to beat ‘Stylbender’ if they fought.

“Absolutely (I can beat Adesanya). I think that’s a tailor-made matchup for me. Those athletic strikers, tall lanky guys, I’ve proven that I can beat,” Weidman said. “I think pressure, wrestling, heavy punches, and kick, you know just nonstop pressure is what you need to beat them. That’s the recipe that beats those guys. I’ve proved that with Anderson Silva twice, Uriah Hall another one. Those guys are in trouble against me.”

Weidman has won just two of his last seven fights but thinks he has done enough to earn a shot at Adesanya who he believes will struggle with his elite-level wrestling.

“I’m with you man. I think that’s an exciting fight to make. If you look up and down the rankings, I don’t think there’s too many other fights that are going to excite people the way our narratives could work, and what I bring to the table. It’s not any bulls**t, it’s just facts,” Weidman said. “If you’re into MMA and you really understand the game, you look at my game and you know I present some serious trouble for Adesanya, and more than anybody’s ever had in the past.

“He hasn’t really fought any other great, accoladed wrestler, other than Yoel Romero who doesn’t use his wrestling. So, I don’t even count that. I’m the type of guy that will bring that pressure, and I will take him down and I’ll ragdoll him on the floor. It is the same thing when I fought Anderson Silva.” (Transcribed by BJPENN.com)

Israel Adesanya has denied ever using steroids and has addressed the controversy surrounding his drooping right pectoral muscle which was a big talking fight before and after his UFC 253 main event win over Paulo Costa.

‘Stylebender’ emphatically finished Costa inside two rounds to defend his UFC middleweight title this past weekend. However, his sensational performance was marred in controversy due to a couple of things. Firstly, his crude post-fight celebrations were seen by many to be crossing a line as he humped his downed opponent at the end of the bout. Secondly was a very clear difference in Adesanya’s body in comparison to what it usually looks like. The New Zealander’s right pectoral muscle seemed to be drooping and many fans began to speculate that the odd injury was a result of doping.

Speaking to Ariel Helwani of ESPN Adesanya revealed he had been suffering from the pec injury for almost two months but doubts it is anything to do with his estrogen level being too high as Gynecomastia usually occurs in both pecs and he only has the issue in one.

“I didn’t want to speak about it until I know what it was because it’s been on me for the last eight weeks and it was growing. I was like ‘this is quite sore’, even my girl told me to go the doctor but I was like ‘ah, I’ll just get this fight over with first’. I don’t know what it is. Also from what I’ve read on the Google’s about Gynecomastia or whatever it happens to both of your boobs right? So, this is just one.”

Adesanya went on to joke about the accusations leveled at him, saying his dominant performance over such a scary contender is bound to bring doping allegations.

“I don’t know what this is. You know what Ariel, with the performance like I had I would think I was on f*cking steroids too,” Adesanya said. “I would think ‘they need something, it couldn’t be just him. It couldn’t be him, it must be something’. For me, it’s all fun and games and like I’ve said I’ve got two weeks of quarantine. I’m going to entertain the f*ck out of myself.”

As for the injury itself, the middleweight champion says he is awaiting test results instead of speculating about what may be up.

“I just got blood tests done and I did like a scan, two MRI scans just now – like 20 minutes ago for my pituitary gland. So, we’ll get the test back and see what it is. I’ve never really been one to diagnose myself with Google. I wasn’t going to start now so I’ve done my tests and I’ll wait for the results and then I might keep you posted or I might let people speculate. It’s kinda fun just to watch people cry about it.

The veteran MMA reporter then straight out asked Adesanya if he’d ever taken steroids.

“No,” Stylebender replied. “No, that’s not something. Ahh, come on man.  I know you believe me but it’s just, come on (laughs). It’s silly. But no, I haven’t. I’m not one of those people who needs a crutch, that when that sh*t is taken away they feel weak they feel inadequate. You saw when USADA came through a lot of people fell off, a lot of bodies changed. A lot of people didn’t feel good enough without their magic supplements but yeah, not me – skills pay the bills.
