Ahead of his return atop UFC 300 next month, light heavyweight champion, Alex Pereira has been tipped to potentially struggle with underdog, Jamahal Hill – with former champion and most recent foe, Jiri Prochazka claiming the latter has more weapons than the Brazilian to score a win.

Pereira, a former undisputed middleweight champion and current undisputed light heavyweight gold holder, is slated to headline UFC 300 next month atop a massive monumental card in Las Vegas, attempting to defend his 205 pound title against ex-champion, Hill.

Returning for the first time since November, Sao Paulo native, Pereira most recently headlined UFC 295 at Madison Square Garden, landing the vacant crown with a stunning second round KO win over the above-mentioned, Prochazka.

As for Hill, the Contender Series product has yet to feature since he minted himself as the champion back in Brazil of last year against Pereira’s close friend and training partner, Glover Teixeira in a vacant title affair.

And returning in a high-profile main event fight against Alex Pereira at UFC 300 next month, Hill has been backed to pose a significant threat to the former’s title run, with Prochazka claiming he has more weapons than the Brazilian in a stylistic showcase.

“The truth is there is more weapons on the Jamahal Hill side,” Jiri Prochazka told Sportskeeda during a recent interview. “But, we’ll see – let the better [fighter] win.”

Initially opening as a distinct betting favorite to beat Illinois native, Hill, Pereira’s talents were severely doubted by the former – who claimed that fans who are fawning over the GLORY Kickboxing Hall of Famer’s attributes, should actually be switching their interest to him

Booking his second straight championship fight, Pereira – who has twice faced off with Israel Adesanya inside the Octagon since his move to the promotion three years ago, claimed a third rubber match between the duo may be unlikely, before offering to train with the City Kickboxing staple instead

Popular Kick streamer Adin Ross really wanted to know what it felt like to get punched in the body by a UFC champion. Light heavyweight titleholder Alex Pereira was happy to assist.

As if that weren’t a bad enough decision, Ross decided to do one better by taking a leg kick from the two-division GLORY Kickboxing world champion.

Clearly, ‘Poatan’ was only giving Ross a small taste of the power he possesses, but even that was enough to send the influencer limping around the ring and writhing in pain.

Alex Pereira is one of the heaviest hitters in all of MMA, as evidenced by his highlight-reel knockouts of former world champions Sean Strickland and Israel Adesanya. After just seven fights inside the Octagon, Pereira has already won the middleweight and light heavyweight titles, the latter coming via a vicious second-round KO against Jiri Prochazka at UFC 295 in November.

On Saturday, April 13, Pereira will return to the Octagon to headline the promotion’s next landmark event, UFC 300, against former 205-pound titleholder Jamahal Hill.

‘Sweet Dreams’ was forced to relinquish the title in July after sustaining an Achilles injury during a charity basketball game. Hill is 12-1 in his mixed martial arts career, his lone loss coming against Paul Craig after sustaining an arm injury in the opening round. He bounced back with four straight victories, including a title-winning performance against Glover Teixeira at UFC 283 last year.

Jamahal Hill says Alex Pereira is overrated

Alex Pereira is overrated.

That is according to Jamahal Hill, the man who is set to challenge ‘Poatan’ for the light heavyweight championship at UFC 300 on April 13.

“Everybody got this perception of [Alex] and he is good,” Hill said in an interview with Helen Yee. “I’ll give him that, but he’s not like ya’ll think he is. I’m like that. He’s not like that. So we’re gonna see who’s really like that. I see myself as superior everywhere. Superior striker, grappler, clinch worker, thinker. I’m superior to him everywhere in this game and I’m gonna show the levels to that.”

It will be Hill’s first fight since winning the 205-pound crown with a dominant decision victory over Alex Pereira’s close friend and mentor, Glover Teixeira, in January 2023. Tragically, ‘Sweet Dreams’ never had the opportunity to defend the title after suffering a ruptured Achilles the following summer. With an extended layoff looming, Hill vacated the title and paved the way for Pereira to claim it via a second-round knockout of Jiri Prochazka at UFC 295 late last year.

Thus far, ‘Poatan’ has two wins in the light heavyweight, including his divisional debut against Jan Blachowicz and the title-winning performance against Prochazka.

“He won,” Hill said when asked for his thoughts on Pereira’s two showings at 205. “Was it something that blew me away or otherworldly? Not even close.”

Jamahal Hill is 6-1 inside the Octagon — the same record owned by Alex Pereira — with notable wins over Johnny Walker, Thiago Santos, and the aforementioned Glover Teixeira.

Jamahal Hill mocks fans after UFC 300 title fight announced you had unreal expectations

Former UFC light-heavyweight champion Jamahal Hill reacts to criticism over UFC 300 and his main event slot.

After much intrigue and anticipation, UFC CEO Dana White finally announced the main event of the upcoming 300 card. Promised a special event, fans even expected something like a Conor McGregor – Michael Chandler confirmation.

However, it would be announced that Alex Pereira would defend his 205lb title against Jamahal Hill in the main event slot. While the fight is an intriguing clash which has the potential to be a real firefight, some fans were disappointed.

Fans also appear to be disappointed with the card as a whole, the card on paper is one of the best in recent memory but does lack a mega name.

Jamahal Hill reacts to fan reaction to UFC 300

Taking on his YouTube channel, Jamahal Hill responded to the reaction of ‘crying’ fans over the 300 card and was disappointed with the response.

“The reaction to this has been kind of a mix of things and there and whatnot,” Hill began. “There’s been a lot of outrage, a lot of disappointment and things like that. To be honest, it’s crazy to me because for the most part, a lot of these people are the same people that have spent the better part of a year or however long calling me ‘cry baby,’”

“But it’s crazy to see how a card can be stacked—the main card literally has a former champion or champion in every single fight and some even facing former champions. In every single fight in the main card, each one of the prelims is worthy of being its own separate main event and people are crying. Like, let’s really be real. It’s really, really crying because you had unreal expectations for something.” (H/T MMA Fighting)

Hill would admit that White may have oversold but would come to the defence of the card as a whole.

Granted, I feel Dana did overstep with some of the comments that he made, but he had every intention on delivering on those comments,” Hill said. “As you know, anybody who’s followed the UFC for some time, whenever Dana tries to tell you he’s trying to deliver something, he wouldn’t talk like that if he wasn’t trying to deliver something that you people would feel is mind-blowing or otherworldly. Instead, you got one of the most technical, guaranteed banger of a fights that you could ask for at this time with serious implications in historically one of the best weight divisions in the UFC. And people are complaining.”
