Jamie Mullarkey, Paddy Pimblett

Australia native Jamie Mullarkey made the most of his opportunity at UFC 284 in Perth.

The UFC lightweight faced off against UFC debutant Francisco Prado in a prelim bout on the card and handily defeated him via unanimous decision. Mullarkey, usually one to avoid the fight going the distance, dominated in all facets of MMA and put on a complete, well-rounded performance.

A couple weeks removed from his dominant win, Jamie Mullarkey took time to speak to Alex Lerman of LowKick MMA to discuss his performance that night as well as give clarity on his post-fight octagon interview callout of Paddy Pimblett.

Jamie Mullarkey Serious about Fighting Paddy Pimblett Next

Immediately after getting the victory, Jamie Mullarkey wasted no time in calling out his next opponent. During the octagon interview with Michael Bisping, Mullarkey made it known that he wants to fight fan favorite Paddy Pimblett next and reckons this is the fight to make.

Mullarkey fervently vouched for this opportunity:

“I would love to fight him. If he’s not booked, like I think it’s the fight to make. We’re both ranked around the same rankings, [it’ll] be a good test for me it’d be a good test for him, and I think that’s the fight to make. I really do believe I can stop him, I think I’ve got a higher fight IQ… and it would be a really exciting fight.

I’m dead serious about it you know. I’m not much of a call guys out kind of guy anyway, but that was my moment just to be like alright, I just fought a guy on debut, I’ve had six fights in the company. I took the fight against a debut guy just so I could fight. Give me my shot at Paddy.”

In addition to affirming the Paddy callout, Jamie Mullarkey also discussed winning alongside his longtime friend Josh Culibao, fighting at a potential Sydney card later this year, and whether his countryman Alex Volkanovski deserves an immediate rematch of the UFC 284 main event.

Michael Johnson doesn’t agree with the official ruling of his last contest with Jamie Mullarkey at UFC Vegas 58.

This past Saturday, UFC veteran Michael Johnson returned to action against Jamie Mullarkey at UFC Fight Night: Dos Anjos vs. Fiziev at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. Johnson was going into the bout off a second-round knockout of Alan Patrick in May. Having remained on the sidelines for over a year prior to that, he showed signs of brilliance in his two latest outings.

Michael Johnson argues that he should’ve won over Jamie Mullarkey at UFC Vegas 58

Taking to his Instagram, “The Menace” expressed his disappointment at not getting the nod from the judges. He believed he had done enough to win and gave props to his opponent for his grit.

“Welp. That’s the way the cookie crumbles I guess. Great fight with @jamie_mullarkey tonight! Hats off to you sir! What’s understood doesn’t need to be said! Felt I got 1&3!! Thank you to all my support squad and those continuing to ride with me! There’s no quit in this guy at all. We keep climbing and fighting and scratching to get back to where I belong!!!”

There was heavy debate online regarding the result of the fight

“The Menace” put in an incredible performance early in the first round to score a knockdown over Mullarkey but in classic Johnson fashion, he would also get dropped in the final seconds of round one. The opening round is where the judges weren’t in agreement and this may have been the deciding factor as two scored it for Mullarkey while only one saw it for Johnson.

Mullarkey managed to come out on top of the judges’ scorecards by a split decision. Yet again, the officials came under fire from the community. The result caused a stir online with fans arguing that Johnson should’ve won the razor-thin fight.

Following his loss at UFC Vegas 58, Johnson has now dropped five in his last six since March 2019. However, the record may not reflect the form that Johnson seems to have found again this year.

Do you agree with Michael Johnson that he should’ve won?

UFC Vegas 58 Performance Bonuses: Rafael Fiziev and Michael Johnson Among Winners

UFC Vegas certainly packed a punch with a world class lightweight showdown in the main event, paired with heavyweight knockouts and grizzled veterans engaging in caged warfare.

Performance of the Night Bonuses: Rafael Fiziev, Chase Sherman

The so-called ‘battle of Rafaels’ pitted a gritty former champion against one of the divisions hottest prospects. After a closely competitive, hard fought four rounds it seemed that both men would hear the final bell. This was until Fiziev would land a left hand that would hurt dos Anjos, stunning and dropping the Brazilian. Fiziev would waste no time in pouncing on dos Anjos, landing two powerful blows before the referee would stop the fight. Fiziev, come next week will find a number seven next to his name.

Chase Sherman would produce an unexpected performance in his clash with Jared Vanderaa, knocking out Vanderaa in the third round. The fight would fight would be a classic heavyweight slugfest, with both men hammering away at one another until it was Sherman who would produce the decisive shot which was followed by a onslaught against the cage. In a fight which will most likely see the loser out of the UFC, Sherman would found a way. Earning him 50k and hopefully still with an employer.

Fight Of The Night: Michael Johnson Vs. Jamie Mullarkey

Michael Johnson, yet again produced a fan friendly affair, this time with Australian Jamie Mullarkey as his dance partner. Johnson would drop Mullarkey in the first round of the fight only for Mullarkey to recover and hurt Johnson on the feet. Round two and three would follow suit, producing unmissable action. Mullarkey would win the favour of the judges but both men would go home an extra 50 grand richer.
