Cage Warriors Jesse Taylor

UFC alum, Jesse Taylor has been removed from his scheduled Cage Warriors 148 title challenger headliner tonight against Christian Leroy Duncan in London, England – after a hit-and-run incident in the capital.

In an initial report from Fighters Only, Taylor was involved in a hit-and-run incident in the capital ahead of his scheduled Cage Warriors middleweight title challenge against Duncan tonight in London, requiring hospitalisation for injuries received.

Taylor, 39, was admitted to hospital on Friday and kept overnight, however, was discharged on Saturday morning. The Californian has, however, failed to obtain medical clearance to compete in tonight’s main event fight with Duncan.

As a result, middleweight champion, Duncan has been removed from the card entirely, with a vacant light heavyweight championship clash featuring UFC veteran, Modestas Bukauskas, and Chuck Campbell now slated to take main event honors.

Cage Warriors president, Graham Boylan confirmed the headliner’s reshuffling in a post on the organization’s official Twitter account.

“Some breaking news for you,” Boylan said. “Jesse Taylor is out of the main event versus Christian Leroy Duncan. Jesse was invovled in a hit-and-run on the mean streets of Greenwich at 1 am this morning. He’s been taken to hospital, he’s been kept in overnightH, he’s had MRIs, he’s had checks, and (been) released this morning around 8:30 am.”

“He’s all good, he’s back in the hotel, and in good spirits,” Boylan said. “Christian Leroy Duncan has been informed, he’s fully aware of what’s going on. And we’ll be bumping up Chuck Campbell, and Modestas Bukauskas to the main event

Jesse Taylor holds the most wins in The Ultimate Fighter history

A victor of The Ultimate Fighter: Redemption season back in 2017, Taylor previously held the undisputed Cage Warriors middleweight championship, and currently finds himself in the midst of a two-fight winning run.

With the UFC having now secured a new broadcasting deal with ESPN from 2019 onwards, Dana White recently admitted that ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ show may finally be on its way out after a 27season series run.

As such, now seems like a good time to take a look back at what has become of every single one of the long-running show’s 35 ‘Ultimate Fighter’ winners to date.

Find out what your favorite past winners of TUF are up to now:

SEASON 1

Diego Sanchez

It’s a testament to Diego Sanchez’s durability that 13 years after winning TUF season 1 he remains the only fighter from that historic series to still be actively competing in the UFC, having amassed 27 fights (16-11) to date.

However, after suffering back-to-back first-round knockouts in his last two fights, it’s possible that the 36-year-old’s memorable career is now entering its final stages, though Sanchez has assured his fans that, “I’m not done yet.”

Forrest Griffin

Arguably TUF’s most iconic winner, Griffin’s fight with Stephan Bonner in the Season 1 finale was declared as the most important fight in UFC history by Dana White, while he’d also go on to win the light-heavyweight title too.

Griffin retired in 2013 at the age of 33 due to chronic injuries, but he’s since been inducted into the UFC’s Hall of Fame and now works for the UFC as their Vice President of Athletic Development.

UFC president Dana White is well known for his bombastic temperament.

He’s always said exactly what’s on his mind, and whether it’s about a fighters’ performance, referees, or business partners, no one is safe from his wrath.

While most fighters under the UFC banner do their best to appease their mercurial boss, many others have found themselves on the wrong side of Dana White.

Take a look at 10 former and current UFC fighters who ended up on White’s “s*% list”:

10. Jason High

One thing White hasn’t tolerated is fighters hitting or otherwise assaulting a referee. Well, he did it when Conor McGregor stormed the Bellator cage and shoved a ref, he did it with Big Country when he kicked “Big” John, but Jason High doesn’t carry the same cache as those men.

So when High expressed his frustration due to what he perceived to be an early stoppage in a TKO loss to Rafael Dos Anjos in 2014, White didn’t hesitate to lambaste him before cutting him from the promotion entirely (his second time being let go from the UFC). Adding to High’s frustration was the fact that he was hit with some illegal strikes throughout the contest.

But after two failed stints in the UFC, albeit by way of top-tier competition, coupled with the lapse in judgment in shoving a referee was more than enough to warrant his release from the promotion.

“I heard – I didn’t even see it – that he put his hands on a referee. Done,” Dana White said of High’s indiscretion. “You touched a referee. Done. Over. That’s worse than what (Paul) Daley did to (Josh) Koscheck.”

Jesse Taylor Latest To Blame ‘Dick Pills’ For USADA Test Failure

Here we go again.

Two weeks after The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 25 winner Jesse Taylor accepted a one-year suspension for testing positive for clomiphene in an out-of-competition screen, the talented-yet-embattled fighter is back with his side of the story.

Taylor told Ariel Helwani on this week’s episode of The MMA Hour (via MMA Mania) that he believes his failure was due to a tainted sexual performance enhancement pill given to him by a holistic doctor, but due to the expensive nature of fighting the charges, it was more apparently more logical for him to accept the suspension:

“I’m not testing these supplements before I’m taking them. It’s crazy. It’s a hard thing to fight, let’s just say that. And if I fight it, I’m out almost as long and out some money. So, you’re kind of stuck in a rock and a hard spot on this thing.”

One might think that if a UFC fighter isn’t going to have their supplements tested, then it may be not worth even taking them in today’s stringent USADA testing landscape, where the burden is on the athlete to know exactly what they are ingesting.

The benefit of the supplement in question is far from being worth the potential damage done to a fighter’s career, especially for a man like Taylor who literally spent years fighting his way back to the UFC after going on a drunken rampage during TUF 5 and getting kicked off of the show.

The ‘dick pill’ defense is one we’ve seen decorated former UFC champions Anderson Silva and Jon Jones use in the past, although both got the same one-year suspension as Taylor. Silva’s was in the pre-USADA era while Jones’ was in conjunction with his infamous UFC 200 main cancellation. Taylor seemed to take a similar defense as ‘The Spider,’ who claimed he was given a random sexual enhancement substance in an unmarked blue vial.

Despite his failure and suspension, Taylor remained vague and wouldn’t out the person who gave him the supposedly tainted supplement:

“Long story short, we kind of have an idea of who it is, I just don’t want to throw this guy’s name under the bus, because it’s not guaranteed,” Taylor continued. “I never tested the supplements and all that. I never took knowingly any clomiphene, anti-estrogen or anything of that nature.”

So Taylor claims he’s innocent, but also acknowledges he never tests his supplements and is unwilling to go through the full due process to exonerate himself, immediately accepted a drug-related suspension after spending the last 10 years to get back into the Octagon.

Makes sense.

Dhiego Lima is not happy to hear that Jesse Taylor failed a recent doping test.

Taylor earned the “The Ultimate Fighter 25” crown with a second-round submission of Lima at the show’s finale back in July. However, he was flagged by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency after estrogen blocker clomiphene was caught in a test conducted on Aug. 22.

This not only pulled Taylor out of a UFC Fight Night 121 encounter and got him a one-year suspension from USADA but it also added an unfortunate twist to what had been the redemption story of the year.

It all started when Taylor steamrolled his way to the finals of 2007’s TUF 5 only to see himself kicked off the show due to a drunken rampage in Las Vegas. Despite the incident, he was given a UFC fight and lost, but rebounded with a long win streak in regional promotions over the next several years. He was given a second chance on the recent edition of TUF.

“For our fight, he knew our anti-doping would only be a normal pee test,” Lima told MMAjunkie. “So he must have done a cycle for that. And then, one month later, he flunked with a post-cycle drug. Of course, he was taking stuff to fight me. It was a relief for me, to be honest.

“That was on my mind – ‘Why was that guy so much stronger than me?’” Lima said. “I trained so hard, and the guy tossed me around like I was nothing? How? It’s not possible. I knew how strong he was in the house. So for me, it would be the same at the fight.

“I did what I had to do to win, but come fight time, he was like three times stronger than me. I got depressed, you know. I thought about the fight so much, and I couldn’t understand. I knew it. I told everyone after the fight that he was too strong that there was no way that was possible. And there you go.”

Keep in mind, clomiphene was the same substance that caused former champions Brock Lesnar and Jon Jones to be flagged in relation to their respective UFC 200 bouts.

Lima feels that the failed drug test meant some vindication. He felt that he was “thrown around like a kid” by Taylor and that didn’t make any sense to him so with this failed drug test, he got some peace of mind.

“I knew I’d done everything right. It all clicked. It wasn’t just any fight,” Lima said. “It was a finale. There was $250,000 (it actually ended up amounting to $290,000) on the line. I have three kids. I trained very hard for this fight. I suffered so much. Some days, I couldn’t even walk because I was training so hard. I knew about his strength. I knew about his wrestling. I prepared for everything. I trained with him for six weeks. He was on my team.

“I knew what I had to do to win the fight. I did everything right. I passed my post-fight tests. And then I hear the guy flunked a test a month later, knowing he did a cycle for my fight? This hurts me a lot. I suffered so much for this fight, and the guy cheats to beat me? It pisses me off.”

“USADA is trying to clean up the sport, so they need to see that he took a post-cycle drug,” Lima said. “Who doesn’t see that? It’s common sense. They need to take care of me. And I believe they will. They have to give me his contract. We’ll see. He’s suspended, so he won’t even fight. I’m here. I passed my tests. I’m training hard. I’ll fight anyone.”

“The fighters are all on my side – especially the clean ones,” Lima said. “They know where I’m coming from. Brian Stann, who I used to train with, always told me: ‘Dhiego, when you fight someone who’s on PEDs, you will know.’ And that’s what happened in this fight.

“I have the fighters on my side. I’m taking to social media. Dana White likes me. So I think there is a chance of at least getting a better contract, especially now that they’re trying to clean the sport with USADA.”

Since the news came out, Taylor immediately maintained he’s “never done steroids.” On the flip side, Lima suspects that’s exactly what his former opponent had been doing for a while.

“I’m no one to judge anyone,” Lima said. “But it’s common sense. The guy is 35 and has a back full of pimples. Where have you seen that before? Is he just hitting puberty now?”

“There is a different in strength, of course, but this also helps them mentally,” Lima said. “We do a camp, we train very hard, and sometimes our body can’t keep up. Sometimes you’re all hurt and broken, so you’re not always training at 100 percent. They say it helps with everything. Their training sessions will always be good, because they have that.

“These guys don’t wanna go through the suffering, they want the easier way. The thing that helps with performance and recovery. And these guys need to be banned. For a guy like me, who’s never taken anything, who diets every day, who trains hard, who goes through all the hardships, it’s so unfair to us. It’s ridiculous. These guys need to be banned. They need to go away. It makes me angry.”

Despite the fact that Lima was upset with Taylor, Lima noted that it’s also going to allow him to start fresh. He plans on returning to the world famous Octagon in December and will be doing it with a clear mind.

“His story was amazing,” Lima said. “What he did the first time, what he did to return. But if he can sleep at night knowing that he had to cheat to beat me? That’s his problem. I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night knowing I had to cheat to get something like this.

“He fought well and all, but I knew what I had to do. If he can sleep at night, that’s good for him. But I wouldn’t be able to.”

In just over three months, The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 25 winner Jesse Taylor’s UFC return has gone from one of the most motivating comeback stories to yet another cautionary tale of self-inflicted career sabotage for the dominant wrestler.

It began when Taylor steamrolled his way to the finals of 2007’s TUF 5 only to see himself kicked off the show due to a drunken rampage in Las Vegas. Despite the escapade, he was given a UFC fight and lost, but rebounded with a long win streak in regional promotions over the next several years. He was given a second chance in the UFC on TUF 25: Redemption, a show that seemed tailor-made for his story, yet he’s now faced with another career-threatening hiccup due to performance-enhancing drugs.

Taylor had been scheduled to face Belal Muhammad at November 18’s UFC Fight Night 121 from Sydney, Australia, but he was removed from the bout when he was handed a potential violation by USADA in an August 22nd out-of-competition screen. Taylor posted online that he and his team were working to get to the bottom of the situation, suggesting they would contest the ruling, but today we’ve found out they took another route.

In an official statement released online by USADA, the UFC’s official anti-doping partner announced that Taylor had tested positive for clomiphene, which causes the secretion of testosterone and could thereby increase strength and athletic performance. The drug is the same banned substance that Brock Lesnar and Jon Jones were flagged for at UFC 200.

Taylor accepted the maximum penalty of a one-year suspension for his first violation.

Read USADA’s statement here:

USADA announced today that UFC® athlete, Jesse Taylor, of San Diego, Calif., has tested positive for a prohibited substance and accepted the maximum one-year sanction for his anti-doping policy violation.

Taylor, 34, tested positive for clomiphene following an out-of-competition urine test conducted on August 22, 2017. Clomiphene is a Specified Substance in the class of Hormone and Metabolic Modulators and is prohibited at all times under the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, which has adopted the World Anti-Doping Agency Prohibited List.

Clomiphene is not approved by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) for use in the male population, as its use has not been thoroughly studied for safety and efficacy. Clomiphene also indirectly promotes the secretion of testosterone. Increasing testosterone, especially when combined with strength training, has been demonstrated to increase fat-free mass, muscle size, and strength in males, potentially leading to performance enhancement in sport.

Taylor’s one-year period of ineligibility, the highest sanction for a first offense involving a Specified Substance, began on September 13, 2017, the date his provisional suspension was imposed. As a result of his positive test, Taylor was removed from the Card for the UFC Fight Night event in Sydney, Australia, scheduled for November 18, 2017.
