UFC 230 has its main event. However, commentator Joe Rogan has never heard of Valentina Shevchenko’s opponent Sijara Eubanks.

It took months but the UFC’s annual November trip to the Big Apple finally has its main event. You could say the overwhelming feedback from fans and media alike has been plain awful. The decision to make a women’s flyweight title fight between Shevchenko and Eubanks is quite the head-scratcher, to say the least.

Not only did this fight come out of nowhere, but there are also far-reaching ramifications. Most notably, this hijacked a previously discussed title bout between Shevchenko and Joanna Jedrzejczyk for December 8’s UFC 231.

Even longtime UFC color commentator Joe Rogan was taken back by the fight announcement. He even admitted to Brendan Schaub while on air, that he doesn’t even know who Eubanks is, despite the fact he will be calling her fight on November 3.

“What?!” Rogan’s reaction to the report of Shevchenko vs. Eubanks.

“No offense, but I don’t even know who Sijara Eubanks is, and I’m the commentator for the UFC,” Rogan added.

Background

Eubanks was a finalist on season 26 of The Ultimate Fighter. She won all three of her tournament fights in the TUF house to face Nicco Montano for the inaugural UFC women’s flyweight title. Unfortunately, she was hospitalized on weigh-in day over a bad weight cut. It should be noted that Eubanks did have difficulties making weight while in the TUF house.

Rogan only said what most people were thinking in the first place. Eubanks is a fine fighter in her own right. Shevchenko is essentially the uncrowned champion of the women’s 125-pound division. Fans just didn’t think they’d be headlining a supposedly massive event like UFC 230 so soon.

No Jones vs. Gus?

A highly-anticipated light heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson was rumored for the UFC 230 main event. ‘The Mauler’ claims that he’s signed his bout agreement and that Jones has “gone missing.’ Jones, meanwhile, says that he’s back to take his throne with a brutal ‘daddy’s home now’ tweet to champion Daniel Cormier.

Obviously, that fight is exponentially more awaited than the one currently headlining the pay-per-view card. Is there still hope for UFC 230?

If anyone is foolish enough to try to heckle MMA stars, then they’d best prepare themselves to be on the receiving end of a verbal beatdown – if not worse.

The trash-talkers in this article discovered the hard way!

Chael Sonnen vs. Regional Fighter

At a Q&A session during the UFC Fan Expo in 2013, Chael Sonnen found himself coming under fire from a regional fighter called Bill Smallwood, who apparently had a chip on his shoulder.

“I’m trying to figure out why people are asking your opinion when you haven’t had your hand raised in two years?” Smallwood said after queuing up to ask Sonnen a question.

As Smallwood continued to ramble on about ‘real talk,’ the state of Oklahoma, and fighters from that area who deserved a title shot more than him, Sonnen finally lost his patience and began to fire back with both barrels.

“Spit it out brother, you’re putting everybody to sleep, man, and I’m about to come over there and whip your *** in a second just to give people something to look at!” Sonnen bellowed at him.

“Here’s real talk dummy. If you don’t get to the end of the line, I’m going to come down there and warm up on you before I talk care of LeBron [James] later tonight, so take those stupid sunglasses off your head, because we’re in a dark room, dummy!”

Smallwood was running out of material fast but kept going anyway.

“I sell *** whoopings, son, not memberships,” he retorted.

“You don’t sell anything, stupid,” Sonnen informed him. “You sell ***-whippings? What is your name again? Who are you?”

Smallwood didn’t respond to that, perhaps because no one had a clue who he was, and the reality was that he only had a 2-3 record in MMA at the time (a record that several years later now stands at just 4-7).

“Tell my room of fans what real talk means,” Sonnen mocked him to cheers and applause from the crowd. “Beat it!”

Joe Rogan Expresses Desire For Bellator To Be ‘Full Rival’ Of UFC

Rogan is hopeful that Bellator can turn into a full-fledged rival promotion.

Joe Rogan expresses desire to see Bellator turn into a rival for the UFC as everyone understands that competition is always for the best. The longtime UFC color commentator understands that when the UFC has a rival such as PRIDE or Strikeforce, it makes UFC President Dana White push the limits more than what he’s comfortable doing.

Thus, with Bellator MMA, which is spearheaded by President Scott Coker and owned by Viacom, he hopes that the promotion can turn into a full-fledged rival for the Las Vegas-based promotion.

During a recent edition of his MMA podcast that featured UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw and his coach Duane Ludwig, Rogan stated that he hopes Bellator can grow into a legitimate head-to-head competitor with UFC.

“I like it,” Rogan said on today’s edition of the “JRE MMA Show” podcast (transcript courtesy of MMAJunkie). “I like that the fighters are having a good time over there. They get paid well. I want it to grow. I want it to be right up there with the UFC. I would love it if it was a full rival like PRIDE was.”

The intriguing part of Bellator MMA is that Coker is in charge of it and once it was revealed that he would take over as the boss of the promotion a few years ago, there was hope that Coker could build it into a competitor due to his history/success that he had with Strikeforce, which was later bought by Zuffa.

“I love Coker,” Rogan said. “I like what he’s doing. I’m somehow or another supposed to be in competition with Bellator. I say that’s horse(expletive). I’m the one who got Jimmy Smith hired (to UFC). I tried to get him hired years ago. I love the fact that ‘Big’ John (McCarthy) is over there now, and (Mike) ‘Goldie’ (Goldberg) is too. And Mauro (Ranallo), I love Mauro. They’ve got great fighters over there.

“I love that Rory MacDonald’s over there. He’s the champ. If he’s not the best welterweight in the world, it’s him and Tyron (Woodley). He’s most certainly one of the best. (Gegard) Mousasi is one go the best 185ers in the world, if not the best. They have legit claim to world-class fighters now in at least two weight classes.”
