Current No. 8-ranked UFC bantamweight Cody Garbrandt has been seen frequently in headlines these past few weeks after engaging in a war of words with current 135-pound champ Dominick Cruz.

‘No Love’ has aspirations of one day sitting atop the mountain of the UFC’s bantamweight division; a feat only two men who aren’t named Dominick Cruz have accomplished in the division’s history, however, none of them did it by defeating  ‘The Dominator’.

During a recent interview with FOX Sports, Garbrandt stated that he has been dreaming of fighting Cruz since his adolescence and revealed his 135-pound hit list in the process:

“I’ve got a UFC hit list. My UFC hit list goes like this — by default it’s Takeya Mizugaki, he’s my next fight. Then it goes Dominick Cruz, TJ Dillashaw, John Lineker. That’s my UFC hit list,” Garbrandt said.

“I’ve been thinking about whooping his ass since I was a kid, since I was a teenager,” Garbrandt said. “That’s no lie. Since the WEC days and all that.

I’ve had over a million fights with Dominick Cruz in my head and I’ve won every one of them. It’s finally coming. It’s right there and he knows it”

GarbrandtDebutsOnRankings2While Garbrandt takes nothing away from Cruz’s legendary accomplishments inside the Octagon, the Team Alpha Male product doesn’t believe Cruz has ever faced a young-and-hungry prospect with fight-ending power like himself:

“When has that guy fought a young, hungry lion that’s been coming up, that’s proved himself, climbed the rankings that’s hungry and had such drive and laser focus to get the top? Coming from nothing.

That’s why I think he’s got the title — he beat TJ (Dillashaw), he beat (Urijah) Faber — and nothing against him, coming back from injury and being out for so long, good for him.

Give him a round of applause for that but when’s the last time he fought a young, hungry, heavy hitting, mean mother (expletive) that loves to fight?” Garbrandt said.

“He hasn’t. That’s why he’s fearful of me. That’s why he doesn’t want to fight me. He knows I’m hungry to get in there. It’s almost there.

I’m more focused, more driven, more motivated and hungrier to do this because it’s right there. It’s within arm’s reach. I want to reach out and grab his throat.”

‘No Love’ seems to have it all planned out following his bout with Takeya Mizugaki this Saturday, as he claims he will then challenge Cruz for the belt before defending it against former teammate TJ Dillashaw next:

“I’ll beat Takeya, I’ll fight Dominick for the title, TJ is the first title defense, knock him out, bring on John Lineker, I’ll knock him out. He doesn’t get off the hook that easy.

He was supposed to get that ass whooped in February. That’s my game plan. That’s what I want,” Garbrandt said.

“I don’t see any fighter that’s ever had a hit list out. That’s my hit list and I’m sticking to it.”

Garbrandt will take on Mizugaki on the main card of UFC 202 live on pay-per-view (PPV), from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on August 20, 2016.

UFC announced the official main event for their upcoming return to Portland, Oregon, as John Lineker and John Dodson will meet in the headline spot at UFC Fight Night 96.

Scheduled to take place on October 1st, Lineker-Dodson will headline the FS1 event, which emanates from the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon.

UFC wrote the following regarding the Lineker-Dodson main event:

“Top bantamweight contenders will square off in Portland, Oregon on Oct. 1, as hard-hitting John Lineker faces “The Magician” John Dodson in a five-round main event at Moda Center. The UFC Fight Night card will air on FOX Sports 1. Tickets go on sale on Friday, Aug. 26.

“New Mexico’s Dodson, a former Ultimate Fighter winner, is a two-time world title challenger at 125 pounds who returned to bantamweight in April with a blistering 37-second knockout of Manny Gamburyan. Now ranked ninth at 135 pounds, Dodson will face another ex-flyweight standout in Brazil’s Lineker, who has won three straight in his bantamweight run. Fresh off a Performance of the Night knockout of Michael McDonald, the No. 5-ranked “Hands of Stone” could make another statement with a victory in October.”

A pivotal contest has been made in the UFC’s bantamweight division.

UFC officials have announced, courtesy of FOX Sports, that 135-pounders John Dodson and John Lineker will go head-to-head in the main event of UFC Fight Night in Portland, Oregon on October 1st.

Lineker (28-7) is currently on a three-fight win streak since returning to the bantamweight division, most recently coming off of a first round knockout win over Michael MacDonald in the main event of UFC Fight Night 91 this past July.

‘Hands of Stone’ currently sits at the No. 5-ranked position in the UFC’s bantamweight rankings, and will be looking to campaign for a title bout against 135-pound champ Dominick Cruz with a win over Dodson.

Dodson (18-7) just recently made his return to the bantamweight division with a first round thrashing of Manvel Gamburyan at UFC on FOX 19 this past April, and is looking to make another huge statement with a potential win over Lineker.

‘The Magician’ is a former two-time title challenger in the 125-pound division, but was unsuccessful in his two attempts against division kingpin Demetrious ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson. Dodson’s two losses to Johnson have been the only defeats on his professional mixed martial arts (MMA) record for the past seven years.

Johnson and Lineker will main event UFC Fight Night Portland on October 1, 2016, and tickets will go on sale Friday August 26, 2016.

In the aftermath of last Wednesday’s (July 13, 2016) electric UFC Fight Night 91 from the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the official UFC rankings have been updated thanks to a few key bouts.

First, however, came a slight change on the vaunted pound-for-pound list, as light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier overtook featherweight champion at the No. 5 spot despite a lackluster win over Anderson Silva at UFC 200, pushing ‘The Notorious’ down to No. 6 heading into his awaited rematch with Nate Diaz at August 20’s UFC 202 from Las Vegas.

The other big move came in the form of streaking bantamweight John Lineker’s debut on the 235-pound top five following his scintillating knockout of Michael McDonald in the UFC Fight Night 91 main event. ‘Hands of Stone’ came in at No. 5 and forced ‘Mayday’ down to No. 7.

Rising flyweight prospect Louis Smolka also found himself in the top 10 for the first time after he battered and bloodied Ben Nguyen in a first-round finish in South Dakota.

The only other significant movement came at women’s bantamweight, where Ashlee Evans-Smith rose two spots to No. 13 without fighting and Katlyn Chookagian debuted on the 135-pound rankings at No. 15 following her debut win over Lauren Murphy in Sioux Falls.
