Anderson Silva Still Talking GSP Fight, But Says No Way to a Possible Jones Pairing

(“I would not fight anyone here. These are my friends.”)

Anderson Silva made a stop on the Max & Marcellus show on ESPN 710 radio this morning and made some interesting comments about some of his potential future fights.

Although he mentioned his upcoming rematch with Chael Sonnen, who he says ” no respect nothing,” “The Spider” named injured welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre as his most apt opponent out of anyone in the UFC right now.

“Georges is the best fighter in this sport. My opinion is it  a great, great, great fight — me and Georges. I like Georges. He’s a good man. He’s a good guy for this sport, and he represents the sport [well] to all the people in Canada,” he explained. “Maybe one day this fight is the good fight.”

When asked if he might move up a weight class (like St-Pierre will likely have to do to make the fight happen) to face Jon Jones, Silva rejected the notion because “Bones” is in a different weight class. Ironic, isn’t it, since he’s willing to fight a welterweight.

“No man. I see the start…the first time that Jon Jones [fought]. I’m seeing [him like me in] my first fight. I talked to Jon Jones maybe for three or four days when we stayed together in the UFC. I told him, ‘Hey man, you’re the best; this time you need to take your focus to training. You have more and more fights a year, but you no have opponents.’ A fight with Jon Jones, this is maybe no good,” Silva stated. “I’m in a different class. In my academy we have Rogerio Minotoro [Noguiera], Rafael Feijao and Lyoto Machida. All the guys are the same class [as Jon Jones]. One day I watched the first fight of Jon Jones [in the UFC] and I said, ‘I like this guy.’ He is great. I like it. He has the old positions. I like it. I don’t know. A fight with me is just no good fight.”

Jones was on Opie and Anthony yesterday and said that he would take a fight with Silva if its what the UFC and the fans wanted. I’d link the interview and the quote, but we don’t want any more pests lingering in the comment section, so you’ll just have to take my word on it. They managed to get Dana to block us again on Twitter, so chalk one up for the nerds and outcasts of the Tweet world.

Anderson Silva: The Fight Between Me and Jon Jones Is No Good

Anderson Silva might still be interested in facing Georges St-Pierre, but he has turned down any inclination between a potential bout between himself and UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.

Jones’ unorthodox style and physical gifts bare a similar resemblance to the Brazilian’s, often leading many fans to speculate a super-fight involving the two competitors.

However, Silva spoke to ESPN.com about the future matchup with Jones and declined the option to face him, citing the fact they both fight in different weight classes.

“The fight between me and JJ is no good, he is a different [weight] class,” Silva said.

Jones has had a monumental year, dethroning Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and successfully defending the 205-pound title against Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Lyoto Machida. Many fans feel Jones does not have enough challengers in the light heavyweight division, and should test his skills in the heavyweight division or against “The Spider.”

Silva has developed a friendship with the 24-year-old Jones over the last year and also sees that as a potential factor from preventing the bout from occurring.

“I saw the first time that Jon Jones fought. I talked to JJ for 3-4 days when we stayed together. I told him, ‘You’re the best, you focus on training, you have more and more fights a year, but you don’t have opening (opponents),'” he said.

Recently, Silva has suddenly turned his attention to a potential super-fight with fellow-pound-for-pound kingpin, St-Pierre, citing it as a good fight for him to be apart of.

“He is a good guy,” he said of St-Pierre. “Maybe one day, this is a good fight.”

Rashad Evans may be the underdog when he steps up to face Jon Jones at UFC 145, but he is by no means a lock to lose.

While I personally think Jones will win (see UFC 145: 7 Reasons Jon Jones Will Crush Rashad Evans), Evans still has a chance. After all, if fans were sure of the outcome,  they wouldn’t even buy the pay-per-view.

It is easy to dismiss him, though. Jones has looked so dominant in every fight he has had up until now that it is hard to imagine him losing. Jones looks like a superhero in the ring, but every man looks invincible until he is beaten.

Rashad Evans could have Jones’ number and there are a few good reasons fans could see him walk out of the cage in Atlanta with the title slung over his shoulder and a grin on his face.

A Note to All Comedians: If You Let Jon Jones Choke You, Don’t Bother Tapping [VIDEO]

Hey, at least he checked on him afterward.

Today’s video comes to us courtesy, as always, of The Opie & Anthony Show, the hosts of which apparently have some sort of sick fetish involving stand up comics being mangled and choked within an inch of their lives. Can’t they just watch good old fashioned porn like the rest of us?

Today’s video comes to us courtesy, as always, of The Opie & Anthony Show, the hosts of which apparently have some sort of sick fetish involving stand up comics being mangled and choked within an inch of their lives. Can’t they just watch good old fashioned porn like the rest of us?

Anyway, Jon Jones was the most recent guest on the show’s regular lineup of MMA stars, and the poor comedian this time around was Robert Kelly. Perhaps Mr. Kelly made a pass at Jones’ wife beforehand, or perhaps Bones was just having a bad morning, because in either case, it turned out Kelly’s frantic tapping had little bearing on when the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion decided to release the choke, all to the delight of Weenie and the Butt, or whoever the fuck these annoying DJ’s claim to be. We were going to rant about this being a dick move by Jones, but Babalu informed us that the champ was just teaching Kelly some respect, and who are we to disagree?

Jones is set to take on Rashad Evans at UFC 145 in Atlanta on April 21st. As long as he doesn’t get busted for harboring any more criminals, that is.

The busy bee of the UFC will return this April.

Light heavyweight kingpin, Jon Jones, has made it clear to UFC President Dana White that he wants to be in constant rotation.

In 2011, the dynamo made four trips to the Octagon, three of which were contested in championship affairs against formidable opponents and former titleholders Mauricio Rua, Quinton Jackson and lastly Lyoto Machida.

Now, “Bones” Jones returns at UFC 145, where he meets arch rival Rashad Evans in the main event of the April 21 show, which takes place at the Philips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.

Evans and Jones go way back, as the 24-year-old Phenom first began to hone his skills with the Greg Jackson crew in 2009. Both men served as training partners out of the Albuquerque gym, where Jon was regarded as a touted up-and-comer and Evans, a former world champion, remained among the best in his class and was mantled as the No. 1 contender to the title.

After Evans incurred an injury in the lead-up to his battle against “Shogun” at UFC 128, Jones stepped up to the plate to square off with the Brazilian last March, after submitting then undefeated collegiate wrestler Ryan Bader just a few weeks prior.

Jones emphatically finished the Pride vet, stopping him with strikes in the third round.

The UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, Jon Jones, has improved drastically with each victory inside the octagon, creating an aura of invincibility.

Many fans are left wondering who is left to challenge Jones, while others point to the fact that he has yet to face Rashad Evans, Dan Henderson, and a slew of other potential contenders.

Should Jones dominate 2012 in a similar fashion to his remarkable run the year before, the question of which contender can dethrone the champion will remain.

The blueprint to defeating this young phenom rests in five different aspects of mixed martial arts. The fighter that is able to utilize these factors successfully will be the next UFC Light Heavyweight Champion.
