UFC President Dana White has undoubtedly taken the sport of MMA to levels that were once incomprehensible in the early 1990s.

What was once essentially a tough man competition with submissions is now backed by FOX and Reebok, and White’s efforts have arguably turned the UFC into a household name.

But for every success Dana White has had, there’s a controversy that follows. White is known for his brash and mercurial temper, and some of his behind-the-scenes dealings have tarnished both him and the UFC.

Let’s take a look back at the six biggest controversies in Dana White’s UFC career!

6. Dana White’s Mom Writes Tell-All Book About Son

Imagine your mother writing a book about how back of a person you are. Well, that’s exactly what June White did to her son, UFC President Dana White.

June wrote about Dana’s penchant for heavy gambling and womanizing, but perhaps the most damning evidence she produces is the way he treated his family after his ascent to fame and fortune. Dana’s mother says he skipped out on his grandmother’s funeral and had made promises to visit her in Florida prior to her passing.

June White says Dana never made that trip. The rest of the book seems like a bit of a mean-spirited campaign against him, but no one knows you better than your own mother.

Oh, the Irony: June White is Back With Her Most Hilariously Misguided Venture Yet

(A dead-eyed lunatic who will not stop until she has destroyed her own kin? Where have we seen this sort of thing before?)

Aren’t the elderly adorable, you guys? With their slow driving and their old-timey racism and their inability to adjust to current technological changes, they are all but walking punchlines just waiting to be set up! Take June White, for instance, who you might remember as the vitriolic, money-grubbing mother of UFC President Dana White. You see, old June wrote a tell-all book about her son a while back in which she claimed he was a soulless devil reincarnate, and has rightfully been raked over the coals for being the deplorable, transparent piece of garbage that she truly is in the time since. Typically, these attacks could be found in the form of comments like the one I just made on her Twitter account or her book’s Amazon page.

While most of us — like our buddies at Fightlinker, for instance — would write off the public’s harsh yet appropriate treatment of June as simple poetic justice, June herself has apparently viewed the backlash as an opportunity to self-implode with irony. Believe it or not, The Baldmother is now attempting to sue anonymous internet commenters with names like Bootyduty3 (If only I was joking) for “defamation, libel and civil conspiracy.” Sea Coast Online has the scoop:

June White, a Hampton resident and the mother of Ultimate Fighting Championship President Dana White, has filed a lawsuit to find out who has been smearing her name on the Internet ever since the release of a highly critical unauthorized biography she wrote about her son.

White claims a troop of cyberbullies — with aliases such as Bootyduty3, Joe Stranger and The Real June White — have been posting “horrific” comments about her and her family for more than a year. She said she fears her son’s company is behind the attacks. “I hate to say it but it could be (UFC that’s organizing the bad-mouthing), and that’s one of the reasons I really want to find out,” White said Wednesday. “If it is, that’s pretty sad.”

That’s Pretty Sad…June, I think someone just came up with the title of their soon-to-be-released autobiography!

More from this story, along with our running commentary, is after the jump.

But don’t worry, we haven’t reached the summit of Mt. Irony yet, Nation:

White said she filed a lawsuit with the U.S. District Court in New Hampshire on April 12 because she was told that’s the only way she can get a subpoena to find out who’s behind the aliases. She’s representing herself because attorneys quoted her “well over $100,000″ to carry out her suit.

The lawsuit charges 21 anonymous commenters with defamation, libel and civil conspiracy. It says they’ve called White “psycho,” “vindictive,” “spiteful,” and “pathetic,” among many expletives, and suggested that she and her family participated in sexual deviancy and drug abuse and that she both abandoned and kidnapped her children.

That must be tough, June, having random people throw spiteful and dishonest remarks at you like that. Well, at least spiteful. Now, just go with us for a minute here, but we’d like you to imagine what it would be like if one of those random people turned out to be the woman who gave birth to you. And even worse, she was making money off of the comments that served no other purpose than tearing you down. Unforgivable, right?

White said it was her supporters who initially pointed out that it could be the UFC organizing the attacks.

“They told me that (UFC) has a department that’s all they do is discredit people they’re mad at for whatever reason,” she said.

She said her supporters, like her, initially thought that Dana would intervene to put an end to the harassment.

I had been waiting for Dana to tell whoever’s doing this to knock it off and defend his mom and family, and they were all surprised he wasn’t stepping up to the plate,” she said.

Alright, June, you’ve earned this one fair and square.

Ask the Potato: Minor Celebrity Edition

This week’s Ask The Potato is too hot to handle.

Ask the Potato is back and as credible as ever- which is almost an accomplishment worth bragging about. This week, while coming up with the smartass quips that you’ve come to expect from us, we noticed that even some minor celebrities have taken notice of this feature and submitted their own questions. Naturally, we’re handling this development the way you would expect us to. We’re placing their questions before your (somewhat) serious questions in order to address people with more clout than you. Just remember, guys: We didn’t sell out: We bought in.

So let’s get to it, shall we?

@JerryMillen asks: @cagepotatomma how do u guys make money? Seriously u have 0 journalists! Must be a bunch oh HS kids. Need to fact check ur stories

We make money just like every other legitimate businessman in the sport, Jerry. After involving ourselves with shady business partners in a disappointing venture, we login to Ebay under a fake name and try to sell off the master tapes to their entire video library.

Like any respectful entrepreneur, when that doesn’t cover the bills we travel across the continental US interviewing the loved ones of our more-successful enemies then post video footage of the character assassination on the internet.

@JuneWhiteMMA asks: @cagepotatomma U know absolutely nothing about me why would u make personal comments like that about me?

It’s interesting that you equate knowing someone well with trashing them publicly, June.

Actually, we owe you an apology. It was improper of us to sneak into your home and eavesdrop on what was obviously a private, personal conversation between two concerned friends. Oh, wait, that’s not what happened at all. You got together with your son’s worst enemy—MMA’s version of a snake oil salesman—to launch a smear campaign against your own flesh and blood. Now you’re mad because we were supposed to write terrible things about him, not you, right?

To be fair, we write awful things about your son all the time and we don’t know him either. Sure, we spoke on the phone once, but largely we judge him by what he says and how he comes across in interviews. That’s what we did with you, which is why we find you to be deplorable.

RwilsonR asks: If BJ had any work ethic at all to train his cardio, would he have beaten Nick Diaz?

This question seems to get asked every time BJ Penn loses a fight. In this case, the answer is obviously no. Let’s face it, BJ Penn was taking his training seriously before this fight. Besides, it’s not like Diaz’s cardio is at backyard brawler levels. If your game plan revolves around having better cardio than Nick Diaz, you’re setting yourself up for failure. And possibly a spot on this list.

Chri534 asks : Over/under $500k: What do you think Nick deserves as a ‘locker room bonus’ for that post-fight press conference appearance?

You do realize that you’re asking this question to a group of guys who actually expect to be paid for this column, right? Perhaps we have skewed expectations of how much compensation (if any) one should receive for doing a basic part of his or her job, but we feel that if Nick Diaz wasn’t paid at least twenty million dollars for showing up to the press conference, it’s a downright shame.

We’ll keep it short and sweet this week, everyone. Tune in next week as we answer even more of your (hopefully at least kind of) MMA related questions. You know the drill: You can send us questions through our Facebook page. You can tweet them to our Twitter account. You can register for our forums and post your questions there. Or you can just post them in the comments section of this article. Not to mention any names, but you have no idea how disappointed we are that some of you have been ignoring this feature. We’re at “Spending Friday nights crying into a pint of Ben & Jerry’s and wondering why he’s ignoring us” levels of disappointment. How about changing that, okay?

Video: Jerry Millen is Back With Another Attack on Dana White and This Time He Brought Dana’s Psycho Mom For Back-Up

(Video courtesy of IronForgesIron)

When Dana White’s mom released a “tell-all” book a few months back, we all figured that it was a result of sour grapes for not being cut a check when Dana started making stacks of cash.

Now we’re pretty sure we were right and that this crazy woman has some sort of vendetta against her son, considering she’s teamed up with one of Dana’s most bitter enemies, Jerry Millen for the scathing interview above. Millen posted the video on YouTube under the pseudonym “louisthompson90010,” but it’s clear that it’s him posing some of the questions. It’s sad really that he would travel on his own dime to interview this spiteful woman in an effort to make Dana look bad.

Millen’s motives become clear from the get go and you can see that through choppy editing and leading questions that he was able to make June White seem like an even more bitter estranged parent than she already did when she called Dana Rosemary’s Baby and claimed he had no soul.

Some highlights of the combined douchebaggery of JW and JM after the jump.

Millen’s motives become clear from the get go and you can see that through choppy editing and leading questions that he was able to make June White seem like an even more bitter estranged parent than she already did when she called Dana Rosemary’s Baby and claimed he had no soul.

Some highlights of the combined douchebaggery of JW and JM :

• June decided to start talking ill of her son when his grandmother died and he didn’t take care of her as allegedly promised and didn’t go to the funeral

• She believes her son takes steroids

• She accuses Dana of cheating on his wife, calls the marriage “a joke” and says he “puts Tiger Woods to Shame”

• She claims to “know for sure” that Dana is sleeping with plenty of the ring card girls including Amber Nicole and Rachelle Leah

• She says Dana slept with his sister-in-law in her house

• She alleges Dana got the worst black eye she’s ever seen and nearly lost his eye after his wife attacked him on their honeymoon

• Mr. Vendetta Millen claims to have first hand knowledge of the FTC investigation of the UFC because he was interviewed by them

• For whatever reason, Millen asks Dana’s mom if she thinks the UFC has a monopoly in MMA and *GASP* she does

• She claims she has never asked Dana for a cent and that she paid her own way to go to events when they were on good terms, which is odd since Dana has been known to foot the bill for airfare and hotels for random fans to go to shows

• She also claims that she didn’t write the book for money, she did it to make Dana check himself and hopefully become a better person. If this is true, wouldn’t a heartfelt letter to her son have been a more constructive option?

• She opines that maybe Dana needs a shrink to deal with his problems. Finding out he was switched at birth would better do the trick.

• At the end of the interview she actually invited Dana to come see her so they can talk. Seriously. It would make more sense that she was Jerry Millen’s mom.

• She alleges that her smear campaign against Dana “was tough” and that “anyone as a parent can certainly understand that.” Really? Because I’m a parent and I’m pretty sure I would never try to publicly slander and humiliate my kid, but that’s just me.

• She says she still loves him, but “would love to see him change” and “make things the way she wants them” and to have her “old Dana back”

• She tries to play the guilt card by saying that it’s unfair to Dana’s kids that she doesn’t get to see them. Like you could trust her not to fill their heads with bullshit like this.

Man. I’m shocked that a team of lawyers haven’t shown up at her door. That woman is crazy. Remind me to send my mom some flowers.
