Kamaru Usman proved a lot of doubters wrong this past Saturday at UFC 235, but Tyron Woodley is not one of them.

That is because Tyron Woodley does not believe he was wrong.

In his comments leading up to his welterweight title defense against Kamaru Usman, Tyron Woodley claimed that Usman was not better at him in any aspect of fighting. In spite of losing 50-44, 50-44, 50-45, and in spite of being outstruck 336-60 and outgrappled throughout the contest in all positions, Tyron Woodley still feels the same way about his skill set in comparison to Kamaru Usman and doubled down on the comments he made prior to UFC 235:

“No, I still feel the same way,” Woodley said in a recent appearance on “The Ariel Helwani MMA Show.” “I still feel the same way. And that wasn’t a knock. It’s just reality. It’s just reality that when it comes to the strike game, when it comes to wrestling, when it comes to anything explosive and extravagant, I’m better at those things. I just didn’t do it that night.

“And that doesn’t mean I veer away from what I said. I still mean that, and I still think that when I rematch Kamaru Usman, when I get back the Tyron that was out there in the Octagon, I think we’ll see what I’m saying.”

Unfortunately for Tyron Woodley, Dana White has vocalized that Colby Covington will receive the next world title opportunity. It is not yet known if Tyron Woodley will elect to take another opponent in the meantime or continue to bide his time waiting to role-reverse with Kamaru Usman by proving any doubters of his assessment wrong.

Do you think Tyron Woodley is justified in stating he is better at Kamaru Usman at everything after UFC 235?

You haven’t seen the last of Tyron Woodley vs. Kamaru Usman inside the Octagon; well, at least as far as “The Chosen One” is concerned.

Usman dominated Woodley for five rounds this past weekend (Sat. March 2, 2019) in the co-main event of UFC 235 on pay-per-view (PPV). “The Nigerian Nightmare” took home a unanimous decision victory and the UFC welterweight championship. Woodley detailed the defeat on “Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show” earlier today (Mon. March 4, 2019) to comment on the matter.

Woodley said he just had “one of those nights” against Usman, similar to the one he did when he was defeated by Rory MacDonald at UFC 174 in 2014:

“I just had one of those nights like I did against Rory MacDonald. It was a f—ing nightmare.”

“The Chosen One” went on to say that nothing Usman did inside the cage surprised him. He also maintained that he still believes his pre-fight comments, in which he said he’s better than Usman in every aspect of MMA. Woodley then hinted at a possible trilogy with Usman as they each continue their paths at 170 pounds:

“We might have to run this two or three times,” Woodley said.

Woodley might have to wait a while before getting that trilogy started. UFC President Dana White recently confirmed that Colby Covington will get the first crack at Usman’s throne. With Ben Askren also on the rise at 170 pounds, it might be a while before Woodley gets another title opportunity.

We’ve noted that former interim UFC welterweight champion Colby Covington, Ali Abdelaziz, and Kamaru Usman all got into a scuffle at a Las Vegas casino buffet after UFC 235 over the weekend.

The chaos got ‘Chaos’ banned from the Palms for life due to the negative publicity.

The welterweight title contender joined “The Ariel Helwani MMA Show” earlier today (Mon. March 4, 2019) to tell his side of the story. Covington said he was minding his own business at the hotel buffet, trying to get some crab legs. While in line, Usman and Abdelaziz showed up and the skirmish began (via MMAjunkie):

“I was staying over at the dump, the Palms and I’m waiting in the buffet line,” Covington said. “I’m just trying to get some crab legs. Can’t the man get some crab legs? Can the man, the champ, get some crab legs in peace?

“All of a sudden low-energy Marty comes, that terrorist rat Ali comes and some other Sasquatch and they start pushing and swinging and start putting innocent kids’ lives in danger and a pregnant lady. There’s a pregnant lady, and she’s screaming, ‘I’m pregnant, stop this!’ Ali is still pushing, trying to make a scene.

“Usman is still trying to scream at me, ‘I’m going to get you!’ And his Sasquatch is trying to throw punches at my friend and trying to punch me. It’s a complete joke. I can’t believe that they allow that in Vegas and just a bunch of filthy animals.”

Death Threats?

During the altercation, Abdelaziz can be seen throwing at least one punch Covington’s way. The former interim 170-pound champ went on to claim that Abdelaziz threatened his life when he said he would track him down, shoot him, and kill him:

“That terrorist rat should get deported back to whatever country he snitched on,” Covington said. “He shouldn’t even be allowed in this country for all the (expletive) he does. He’s over there trying to take swings at professional fighters.

You know what else he told me? He told me he was going to track me down and shoot me and kill me. He said that to me. I swear to God on my life. I have witnesses that heard him say that. Ali tried to swing at me, but I’ve got cat-like reflexes, so obviously he’s not going to hit me. He’s slow as a (expletive) turtle.

“I heard that no one got in trouble. I heard that the Fertittas own the Palms, so I think they gave that terrorist rat a pass and they didn’t want to hurt Marty Usman’s chance of deporting him back to Nigeria before he get his ass-whooping from me.”
