Former UFC flyweight title challenger and division contender, Katlyn Chookagian has revealed social media star, Hasbulla Magomedov refused to take a picture with her at a recent function, seemingly flat out refusing to take photos with women.

Chookagian, the current #3 ranked division contender, has yet to return to the Octagon since she saw a four fight winning run halted by Manon Fiorot at UFC 280 back in October on ‘Fight Island’ in a unanimous decision loss to the French standout.

Once competing for undisputed flyweight gold back in February 2020, Chookagian suffered a third round ground strikes knockout loss to current champion, Valentina Shevchenko

In a single professional loss since, Chookagian dropped a first round strikes loss to former strawweight champion, Jessica Andrade in a ‘Fight Island’ title eliminator.

Embarking on a run of four consecutive victories since her loss to Brazilian finisher, Andrade, Quakertown veteran, Chookagian managed to defeat the quartet of Cynthia Calvillo, Viviane Araujo, Jennifer Maia, and most recently, landed a split decision win over Amanda Ribas back in May of this year.

Katlyn Chookagian reveals a rather contentious interaction with Hasbulla Magomedov

Sharing her side of a recent interaction with social media star, Hasbulla Magomedov – who was recently added to the EA Sports UFC 4 video game, Chookagian claimed the Russian teenager refused to take a picture with her, given the fact she is female.

“It was all fighters, so he (Hasbulla Magomedov) knows I’m a fighter, and I asked him for a picture,” Katlyn Chookagian said on the Just Bleed podcast. “He literally waved his finger at me and said, ‘Women, no photo.’ I mean, that seems more disrespectful to women than Andrew Tate saying he thinks women should be like protected.”

Rising to prominence over the last two years, Hasbulla has featured prominently at multiple UFC events since, and entered the Octagon following compatriot, Islam Makhachev’s successful title victory against Charles Oliveira at UFC 280 back in October.

Former UFC Strawweight Champion Jéssica Andrade will step up to face Manon Fiorot in a flyweight bout at UFC Paris on September 3rd.

Andrade will fill in for former title challenger Katlyn Chookagian who withdrew from the fight this week. News of the Andrade/Fiorot booking was first reported by MMA Junkie’s Nolan King.

Andrade appeared to be back on the run towards a potential strawweight title shot after a win over Amanda Lemos in April. Now, she seems intent to make title runs at multiple weight classes, including most recently teasing a potential move to bantamweight.

Andrade was expected to be a tough challenge to Valentina Shevchenko before losing to her via second-round TKO at UFC 261. She followed it up by defeating Cynthia Calvillo via first-round knockout at UFC 266.

Andrade will face a streaking Fiorot who has won nine straight following her lone defeat in her first professional fight to Leah McCourt in Cage Warriors. She most recently picked up impressive decision wins over the likes of Jennifer Maia and Mayra Bueno Silva.

Fiorot also earned the UAE Warriors flyweight title over Gabriela Campo in 2020 before earning a shot in the UFC just months later. She won her UFC debut over Victoria Leonardo in Jan. 2021.

UFC Paris will be headlined by a heavyweight matchup between top contenders Ciryl Gane and Tai Tuivasa.

Amanda Ribas apparently ruptured her bicep tendon ahead of her loss to Katlyn Chookagian this past weekend.

Ribas and Chookagian met at UFC Vegas 54 in a Fight Of The Night battle on the main card. When it was all said and done, Chookagian got her hand raised for the split decision win. However, it appears that Ribas didn’t enter into the fight at 100 percent.

Taking to his Instagram, Ribas’ father, Marcelo Ribas, revealed that his daughter actually suffered a ruptured bicep tendon prior to the bout.

The injury actually required Ribas to undergo physical therapy in addition to her training camp for the fight.

“A very stressful month. A golden opportunity to fight world number one. At 25 days, an injury ‘total rupture of the biceps tendon’ comes in, then physical therapy 3 times a day to try to get [her] to fight. …

“25 days without training our strength which is jiu jitsu and judo. And we’d arrive in Las Vegas not knowing if we’d be able to handle grappling or wrestling on the ground,” Ribas wrote, via Sherdog.

“[Amanda] did what she loves to do and gave her heart, even though she was in a lot of pain she overcame herself and made this beautiful fight.

“And came what is independent of the result. The best fight of the night. Pain and injury are fleeting, but honor and memory are eternal. … soon Amanda will be back.”

Heading into the contest, Ribas, one of the UFC’s most promising young prospects, was 5-1 in her last six fights. However, she took on a tough challenger in Chookagian, the No. 1-ranked flyweight in the UFC who is now on a four-fight win streak with her victory over Ribas.

It will be interesting to see if the victory for Chookagian will be enough to grant her a title opportunity against the 125-pound champion.

What do you think of Amanda Ribas going into her fight against Chookagian with a ruptured bicep? Do you think she should have pulled out of the contest? Sound off in the comments!

Chookagian defeated Ribas via split decision on the UFC Vegas 54 main card. It was a back-and-forth battle from start to finish and both fighters took home ‘Fight of the Night’ $50k bonuses following the event.

Chookagian, the No. 1 flyweight contender and a former title challenger, could get the next title shot against the Valentina Shevchenko/Taila Santos winner. She recently signed a new contract after entering free agency following her last win over Jennifer Maia.

Chookagian vs. Ribas wasn’t the only standout performance on the card. In the UFC Vegas 54 co-main event, light heavyweight Ryan Spann earned a statement win by choking out veteran Ion Cutelaba midway through the first round.

Spann has now won three of his last five fights despite losses to Johnny Walker and Anthony Smith. He earned a ‘Performance of the Night’ bonus for his victory.

The other POTN bonus went to UFC debuting Manuel Torres, who earned a vicious first-round knockout of Frank Camacho following a series of wild exchanges.

Katlyn Chookagian proved that she’s still a threat in the women’s flyweight division after earning a split decision victory over Amanda Ribas at UFC Vegas 54 this evening.

The win was Chookagian’s fourth in a row and both women took home an extra $50K after earning Fight of the Night honors. #10-ranked flyweight Chookagian is now inching closer to gaining a second shot at champ Valentina Shevchenko, who she unsuccessfully challenged for the title in 2020.

Tonight’s bout was a thoroughly entertaining, back-and-forth affair. Ribas started strong, keeping Chookagian glued to the canvas for much of round one. But the American soon got back up and the duo traded heavy leather.

Round two saw Ribas dominate on the ground, but Chookagian landed a few heavy blows late on. And the fight stayed on the feet for much of round three, with the duo winging punches in a frenetic last minute of action.

Catch all the highlights of Chookagian’s victory over Ribas below.

This was Katlyn Chookagian’s fourth win in a row.

Now, let’s see how fighters reacted to Chookagian’s victory over Ribas at UFC Vegas 54.
