Kenny Florian Francis Ngannou

Francis Ngannou is the hottest free agent in combat sports today. Kenny Florian, former UFC fighter and current PFL commentator, said the PFL’s heavyweight division could offer the Cameroonian star some very interesting matchups.

In an interview with MMA Junkie, Kenny Florian explained that the signing would be monumental for the sport:

“I think signing Francis Ngannou would be massive – not only for the PFL, but for the sport/ It’s going to get fighters to scratch their heads and go, ‘Hmm, maybe I could go over there.’ I think it would allow the PFL to get a ton of respect and eventually get even more great fighters.”

Kenny Florian says the top PFL heavyweights could hang with Francis Ngannou

Francis Ngannou is the former UFC heavyweight world champion. He never lost his title, instead, he stepped away from the organization due to contractual negotiations falling through. Boxing, PFL, Bellator, ONE Championship, GLORY Kickboxing, and others, have been rumored to be offering the number-one-ranked heavyweight lucrative contracts.

The PFL’s heavyweight division, according to Kenny Florian, would be able to give Francis Ngannou some issues. He continued:

“Him fighting whoever ends up being the champion for the PFL I think would be really intriguing. As far as the heavyweight division, we may not have the same depth as the UFC in the heavyweight division, but I think the top three or four guys in the PFL, I think they can hang with a lot of the top three or four guys in the UFC, no question about it. “I think a lot of our heavyweights, whether we’re talking about Ante Delija, Bruno Cappelozza – we have a ton of talent in the PFL in the heavyweight division, and I think there’s a lot of intriguing matchups and potential for them against Francis Ngannou.”

Kenny Florian was once a key member of the UFC broadcast team but is now plying his trade with the PFL.

The long-time competitor, analyst, and color commentator was never given an official reason for the UFC letting him go but after speaking to some people who work for the promotion he now has an understanding of what happened.

“My understanding — and this is what’s been told to me from people inside the company — I guess I said no to being a coach… I was asked to coach on, I think, The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America, one of the early ones back in the day,” Florian said on The MMA Hour. “I wasn’t able to do it. It was travel and all of that stuff, and I was doing UFC Tonight, I was doing commentary work, and I just had a lot of stuff going on at home, so I just wasn’t able to really do it

“It just didn’t make sense, and because I said no, I kind of slowly started being removed from stuff. That’s my understanding. That’s what’s been told to me — not directly, but by people within the company who are close to the source. But I guess that’s how it went down. So I stopped doing that, and last year I started doing stuff for the PFL, which has been awesome. It’s been great to call fights, be in that energy, and be right up close to the cage again and that’s been a lot of fun.”

Kenny Florian insists he has no regrets about parting ways with the UFC.

“I think if someone called me directly and was like, ‘Hey, please, can you just do this,’ I probably would’ve done it,” Florian explained. “I’ve always done my best to keep the people who are employing me as happy as possible. I don’t have any [regrets]. I try not to look back on things, and things happen for the best and I’m pretty happy where I am right now. Things are good.” (Transcribed by MMA Fighting)

Former UFC fighter-turned-analyst Kenny Florian revealed that he was almost killed in a car accident that recently occurred in the United Kingdom.

Florian claimed that a truck almost got the car he was in trapped underneath. However, they were able to swerve only to get hit by a large van.

Luckily, nobody was injured as Florian recalled the events:

“Almost got killed in a car accident on the highway in the UK,” Florian tweeted. “Thankfully nobody was injured. A massive truck almost got our tiny car trapped underneath it. We swerved & got struck by a large van. Our driver named @pmdubs (Paul Walker) saved our lives. Every day is a gift. ?

Ironically, the driver’s name was Paul Walker, which happens to be the same name as the former Hollywood actor who died after a car crash in 2013.

The Walker who saved Florian had better luck and has even changed his Twitter bio to “I saved Kenny Florian’s life.”

The most important thing, however, is that everyone is safe and that there were no casualties.
