While Edson Barboza claims that his spectacular wheel-kick over Terry Etim at UFC 142 in 2012 is ‘fresh in his mind’, he is keen to prove that he has a lot more to offer fight fans
“In kickboxing, I have crazy knockouts,” Barboza told MMAjunkie Radio. “You guys have no idea. I have a lot of knockouts. I think some knockouts are more important than the wheel kick.
“When I moved to the U.S., I started fighting in MMA, and everybody watched,” he said. “I was 2-0 or 3-0, and nobody wants to fight me, because everybody went on YouTube. People would watch my videos, and everybody pulled out (of fights). I told my friend, ‘Please, take all my YouTube videos down.’”
Barboza’s brutal KO is considered as one of the most spectacular in UFC history, frequently gracing knockout compilations and highlight reel features. The Brazilian insists, that while he is proud of that moment, he has a lot more to offer:
“I remember that day as very important for me, because I came from my first professional loss in kickboxing,” he said. “I really knocked the guy out. He was almost dead. It’s very fresh in my mind.”
Barboza will get his chance to show what he can do when he squares off against the injury-plagued but highly regarded UFC lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 219 next month. A win can catapult him into title contention and Barboza feels that it is overdue:
“I’ve fought with seven guys in the top 15, and definitely, I think if I win this fight, I really deserve the title shot,” he said. “I don’t care if it’s (undisputed UFC lightweight champ) Conor (McGregor) or (interim champ Tony) Ferguson. But I definitely deserve the title shot.”

UFC commentator and former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping is not one to hold back his opinions regarding everything regarding the MMA community, and that includes his former colleague and former lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
The retired undefeated lightweight king Nurmagomedov recently ripped the idea of having ring girls present for combat sports events, going so far as to say that they are “the most unnecessary people in MMA”. Many around the community have ripped Nurmagomedov for his comments including former UFC interim title challenger Kevin Lee.
During a recent appearance on his “Believe You Me” podcast, Bisping said that while he respects Nurmagomedov’s opinion, he thinks that ring girls are a fun part of the sport’s entertainment value.
“Nobody goes for the ring girls, that’s not how it works,” Bisping said. “They’re a little bit extra for the show. And I like it because it’s historic in boxing and now with MMA of course. It’s a little bit of fun.”
“I’m a huge fan of Khabib. But come on man! Let the girls have a job. They make a lot of money with sponsorships and endorsements.”
Nurmagomedov made his original comments while promoting his brand-new Eagle Fighting Championship promotion, with the most recent event happening earlier this week in Russia. Bisping has emerged as one of the most important voices in the sport with his podcasts, and his commentating gig for UFC Fight Night events. Bisping will be on the broadcast desk for UFC Vegas 35 this weekend at the UFC Apex.
Bisping just signed a brand-new, four-year deal as a UFC on ESPN commentator which he announced on his social media. Nurmagomedov retired from MMA last year following his latest win over Justin Gaethje in Abu Dhabi.

From his controversial remarks concerning the point of ring girls in Mixed Martial Arts to being the subject of nasty attacks on Twitter, it is definitely fair to say that “The Eagle” has not enjoyed the quietest of retirements following his brilliant win against Justin Gaethje in Abu Dhabi at UFC 254.
Now though, Khabib has endured a shocking near-attack by a “fan.” Whilst Khabib was being escorted through a security passage, and was noticeably limping, the person in question attempted to break the security barrier and sprinted towards the Dagestan native. It should be noted that the context of this incident is currently unknown, as is what actually happened during the attempted altercation.

As already alluded to, Khabib is enjoying his retirement from the fighting and has been extensively promoting his MMA organization, Eagle FC. He also recently revealed that he has bought shares in the UFC; a very smart business move from the Russian indeed. He remains a true fan favourite (the above case being an obvious exception). Regardless of the cause or the motivation behind the attempted attack, it does indeed serve to remind that even the toughest fighters on the planet require strong security presences.
