The UFC wasted no time in re-booking Kevin Holland vs. Kyle Daukaus, just days after their controversial no-contest finish at UFC Vegas 38. As first reported by ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, Holland and Daukaus will look to settle the score at UFC Vegas 42 on Nov. 13.

The highly-anticipated Holland vs. Daukaus fight came to a grinding halt after the two clashed heads just minutes into the fight, but the fight wasn’t officially ruled a no-contest until Daukaus sunk in a fight-ending submission. Holland took the worst of the head-clash but managed to somehow recover and work back up to his feet.

After referee Dan Miragliotta took a few minutes to speak with Herb Dean about the situation, the fight was ruled a no-contest, and Daukaus was not granted the submission victory.

Luckily for UFC fans, lightning more than likely won’t strike twice on this matchup between Holland and Daukaus. It’s a massive fight for both fighters, especially for Holland who is coming off of back-to-back losses to Derek Brunson and Marvin Vettori.

Holland and Daukaus seemed very keen on an immediate rematch following the bout; especially Daukaus, who looked visibly upset with the decision to not rule the fight in his favor.

Holland had one of the most remarkable calendar years in combat sports in 2020, winning five straight bouts including an incredible knockout from his back against Jacare Souza. He also earned knockouts over Joaquin Buckley and Anthony Hernandez.

One of the biggest issues that Holland has had over his young UFC career had been his takedown defense and overall grappling game. He worked with former UFC double champion Daniel Cormier leading up to the fight with Daukaus but didn’t get much of an opportunity to showcase improvements.

We’ll hope to earn answers to those questions when Holland and Daukaus go to battle once again in just a few weeks.

[UPDATE]

It was revealed Wednesday that Kevin Holland is now out of his rematch against Kyle Daukus that was scheduled for November 13. Daukaus himself was the person to reveal the news on social media.

“Hey @Trailblaze2top Sorry to hear about the injury. Heal up. I’ll see you in February, but first I’m gonna handle some business. #Relentless#UFC,” Daukaus wrote.

News of Holland’s withdrawal has since been confirmed by multiple sources. MMA News will keep you updated on if this fight is rebooked again or if Daukaus tends to other business first as he alluded to in the above tweet.

[ORIGINAL STORY PUBLISHED OCTOBER 5, 2021, 5:00 PM]

The UFC has rebooked the Kevin Holland and Kyle Daukaus rematch after their initial fight resulted in a No Contest due to an unintentional headbutt.

According to ESPN‘s Brett Okamoto, contracts have not been signed yet but both sides have verbally agreed to fight on Nov. 13. Their second encounter will take place inside the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, NV. This fight announcement comes one day after Holland assisted in apprehending a carjacker through a wild chase in his local neighborhood.

“Kevin Holland (@Trailblaze2top) vs. Kyle Daukaus (@KyleDaukaus) has been rebooked for November 13 following last week’s no-contest, per sources.” Brett Okamoto posted.

At UFC Vegas 38, the two middleweights met in the co-main event. It was clear Holland needed to improve on his wrestling in order to keep up with a thriving 185-pound division after suffering back-to-back losses to Derek Brunson and Marvin Vettori. The “Trailblazer” admitted prior to the fight that he was working on his wrestling with former UFC champion Johny Hendricks.

Kevin Holland had very few opportunities to showcase his new skills, as he was knocked unconscious in the first round. Holland was quickly able to turn over and begin fighting again after falling face-first to the canvas. When referee Dan Miragliotta went to waive the contest off, he paused and decided to let the action unravel further.

After escaping numerous submission attempts, Holland was trapped in a rear-naked choke and Daukaus scored the submission. Subsequently, the mayhem took place, and several UFC officials and Nevada Athletic State Officials grouped together to help render an official NC result.

With the two scheduled to run it back in November, surely that gives Holland some time to recover after a brutal headbutt that could have shelved him even longer.

Here is the updated lineup for UFC Vegas 42:

  • Max Holloway  vs.  Yair Rodriguez
  • Philipe Lins  vs.  Ovince St. Preux
  • Ben Rothwell  vs.  Marcos Rogério de Lima
  • Kevin Holland  vs.  Kyle Daukaus

Despite their fight at UFC Vegas 38 being ruled a no contest, as far as Kevin Holland is concerned, Kyle Daukaus defeated him twice in one night.

After riding into 2021 off the back of five remarkable wins last year, Holland’s hype train had about as much momentum as it could have. However, two comfortable defeats to Marvin Vettori and Derek Brunson damaged the 28-year-old’s stock and raised questions over his ability to defend takedowns.

“Trailblazer” hoped to return to the win column against the unranked Kyle Daukaus this past weekend. Despite showing improved takedown defense, something he let Daniel Cormier at cageside well aware of, Holland’s positive start came to a crashing halt.

With less than two minutes of the opening round remaining, the #14-ranked middleweight was briefly knocked out following an accidental clash of heads. Having fought back to the point where referee Dan Miragliotta canceled his plans to step in and stop the contest, Holland submitted to a standing rear-naked choke moments later.

After a period of confusion and a lengthy discussion outside of the Octagon, which included a review of the footage, the decision was made to rule the bout a no contest as a result of the accidental clash of heads.

While many fighters, fans, and pundits have concluded that the right call was made, Holland himself believes he was beaten fair and square by Daukaus. “Big Mouth” suggested that it’s his responsibility to defend himself at all times, something which he says he didn’t do prior to the clash of heads.

“I never thought about a no contest,” Holland said during the UFC Vegas 38 post-fight press conference. “I’m not that type of person. As far as I’m concerned, he knocked me out and choked me out in one fight. If it was a street fight, he would have got the job done.

“I mean kung-fu first, defend yourself at all times. I didn’t defend myself from the headbutt, that’s my fault.”

Discussing what appeared to be a flash knockout, Holland confirmed that he was unconscious and woke up with Daukaus on his back. Despite suggesting he was beaten twice this past weekend, he did admit that the KO left him dizzy and in a tougher position when it came to escaping the submission that concluded the fight.

“I believe [I was knocked out],” Holland said, “Because I know for fucking sure I didn’t get taken down. All of a sudden I feel a motherfucker on my back, so yeah, had to be flash [knocked out] for a second.

“I felt myself a little dizzy on the ground. I felt a little harder to breathe in the choking situation. I figured I was pretty fucked up in that situation.”

Kevin Holland continued his antics last night, but also showed class to Kyle Daukaus.

Holland was momentarily knocked out by Daukaus after an accidental head collision in their middleweight bout at UFC Vegas 38 last night.

Holland woke right back up as soon as he hit the ground but was unable to survive as Daukaus proceeded to sink in the rear naked choke for the win.

However, it wasn’t a win in the end as the fight went to a review and was later deemed a no contest. It was certainly a rare instance of a fight having a fight-ending sequence but later being deemed a no contest.

And as far as Holland is concerned, he just wants to run things back.

He also took pride in not being taken down, having notably asked commentator Daniel Cormier for his opinion during the fight. Holland was taken down repeatedly in his last two fights prior to last night.

“I didn’t know what happened. I also don’t know how the rules are defined in that situation.I do know he didn’t take me down. ? yeeeehaw Run. It. Back. Bucko.”

In the post-fight press conference, Holland also revealed he was never thinking about getting the no contest and even believes Daukaus should get the victory.

“I never thought about a no contest,” Holland said. “I’m not that type of person. As far as I’m concerned, he knocked me out and choked me out in one fight. If it was a street fight, he would have got the job done.

“I mean kung-fu first, defend yourself at all times. I didn’t defend myself from the headbutt, that’s my fault.”

Kyle Daukaus was understandably unhappy to see the biggest win of his career quickly overturned at UFC Vegas 38.

The middleweight prospect locked up a rear-naked choke to submit Kevin Holland in the first round of their UFC Vegas 38 co-main event. However, his win was quickly called into question as moments earlier a nasty clash of heads sent Holland crashing face-first to the mat. ‘Trailblazer’ was able to fight on but ended up getting quickly submitted after the flash knockout.

After a rather lengthy discussion with ringside officials, referee Dan Miragliotta declared the fight a no-contest.

During the UFC Vegas 38 post-fight press conference, Daukaus explained why he disagrees with that decision.

“It just annoys me,” Daukaus said. “He did recover from the head-butt in a way, and Dan (the referee) didn’t say anything while we were in there. He was still fighting, so it was fine, to me it was fine.

“If that would’ve happened to me, it would have been fine. If he would’ve stood back up and if he would’ve gotten back to his feet and knock me senseless, they would’ve made it a big deal about him on ESPN saying, ‘Oh, he suffered a head-butt and then got up and knocked me out.’ But because he recovers off of a head-butt gives up his back and I choke him, I get a no contest.”

Daukaus will now turn his attention to helping his brother Chris Daukaus prepare to face Derrick Lewis on December 18 before hopefully getting a rematch with Holland in the first quarter of 2022.

“It will bother me and it’s still going to bother me,” Daukaus said. “It’s going to haunt me until I get the win, so it’s only more motivation throughout training.” (Transcribed by MMA Junkie)
