Exclusive – David Feldman: Luis Palomino isn’t popular enough to fight BKFC star Mike Perry: ‘He has to earn it”

David Feldman didn’t hold back when it came to discussing the business of Mike Perry fights. In an exclusive interview with LowKick MMA, he said plain and simply that Luis Palomino isn’t ready to fight Perry yet.

Even more honestly, he…

David Feldman didn’t hold back when it came to discussing the business of Mike Perry fights. In an exclusive interview with LowKick MMA, he said plain and simply that Luis Palomino isn’t ready to fight Perry yet.

Even more honestly, he also insinuated that just simply beating Austin Trout on February 2nd at BKFC 57 won’t even be enough. No, Luis Palomino needs to have a superstar performance. In the words of Feldman himself: Palomino needs to make fans want to watch a potential fight between him and Perry.

9-0 in the BKFC, Luis Palomino is currently the BKFC lightweight champion of the world. However, this hasn’t sealed the deal on the biggest money fight of his career. Yet. The door is still open for a Palomino vs. Perry banger, but ‘Baboon’ won’t earn this money fight just via meritocracy alone. David Feldman has a business to run, and he is in the business of selling fights.

David Feldman Describes Arguement with Luis Palomino

In an exclusive interview with LowKick MMA, David Feldman was asked about the potential for Mike Perry to face the winner of the rapidly approaching Palomino vs Trout fight, and also about the direction he personally would like to see Perry take.

“I mean, it’s possible.” Feldman began, speaking about the possibility of a Palomino vs Perry fight. “I actually had an argument with Luis, because he wanted to fight Mike Perry. And I said look, coming off your last performance, you gotta give fans a reason why they want to see you fight Mike Perry. And right now, no one is asking for that…”

The BKFC boss would continue on the subject, highlighting how Palomino was so hyped up to prove himself to be worthy for the Perry fight that he was yelling.

“Now (I told him), go out there this time, and do what you need to do just to get people talking.” David Feldman said. “Saying ‘I want to see Luis Palomino fight Mike Perry’. And you know, we’d (Palomino and I have) gone back and forth a bit… I said listen, man, I’d love nothing more than to see you earn that shot and get your ‘just due’, but you have to earn it. And this is your shot, this Friday night to earn it. So, you want it? Go out and get it.”

When asked if he’d prefer Perry to chase a money fight or a title shot, the answer the CEO of BKFC gave was a very truthful and realistic one.

“Not really,” Feldman said. “Because what people don’t understand is look. If we’re not talking about the growth of the company and we’re just talking about putting on good fights. Then yes. But you’re talking about the growth of the company.”

“You need to put on these big names fighting other big names. Because, when the big names don’t fight big names, it doesn’t get people really, really interested. So, you have to have the big names fight the other big names. And, that gets people who’ve never viewed this before to actually watch it and potentially become a fan of this sport, and this promotion. And that’s the goal here.”

Do you think Luis Palomino will defeat Austin Trout at BKFC 57 and fight Mike Perry next, and, what’s your opinion on the take from David Feldman about Perry’s future fights?

BKFC 22

A thrilling night of action at BKFC 22 is in the books as Miami, Florida, hosted the heated rivalry between MMA veteran Hector Lombard and Lorenzo Hunt, which was warmed up by the ten previous fights that went down beforehand.

It was always destined that Lombard and Hunt would meet inside the ropes and trade leather after their viral confrontation at BKFC 18. Following Hector Lombard’s victory over Joe Riggs, Lorenzo Hunt proceeded to bull-rush into the ring. He confronted Lombard, which resulted in the former Bellator MMA champion throwing a combination at Hunt.

The bad blood spilled into the BKFC 22 main event, giving Bare Knuckle boxing enthusiasts the entertainment they paid for.

Lombard and Hunt got after it right from the off-set, throwing with bad intentions, giving each other no time to settle into the fight.

After the chaos calmed, Hunt was able to download the data of Lombard, utilizing his lead hand to gauge the distance and capitalise on his reach advantage. Which lead to the thirty-nine-year-old wearing on the scar tissue of Lombard, landing multiple clean shots resulting in several cuts. Hector Lombard’s experience was on display as he stayed in the fight, continued to walk forward, and landed heavy shots of his own. In the end, it wasn’t enough as the judges settled the bad blood crediting Lorenzo Hunt with a unanimous decision victory, recording his sixth win as a Bare Knuckle boxer, and capturing the BKFC cruiserweight championship.

Luis Palomino wants to run things back with Jorge Masvidal.

The BKFC lightweight champion defended his title with a unanimous decision win over Tyler Goodjohn at BKFC 18 last night. As a result, he went 4-0 under the BKFC banner.

He then switched his attention to Masvidal who he notably defeated via split decision when they faced each other back in 2010.

“This is satisfaction because I hurt this man,” Palomino said about the fight with Goodjohn (via MMA Fighting). “This man has a history behind him from pro boxing, undefeated in England. He came over here hunting for me. He came here alone. For that, I respect Tyler Goodjohn.

“I want to keep challenging myself. Jorge Masvidal, if you want your rematch … I’ll give you that rematch in a boxing ring.”

Palomino continued:

“So check this out, right. If you want your rematch, remember I beat you in (2010) eight pounds heavy. If you want your rematch — I know you’re under contract with the UFC — but I’ve seen Dave Feldman corner some people in a boxing match.

“So I’ll represent BKFC, you can represent the UFC and I’ll give you the rematch in the boxing ring with the respect and with Dave Feldman’s permission.”

Could this happen? Probably not in reality, as Masvidal has nothing to gain from fighting a 40-year-old Palomino even if he does have a loss to him.

But it’s always worth shooting your shot.

Bellator 46: Little Dudes, Big Action

Realizing that beautiful things can be accomplished in the summertime, Bellator kicked off its 8-man featherweight tournament last night on MTV 2. If you happened to miss it, we’ve got a quick recap of how things went down along with a few gifs for your viewing pleasure after the jump.

Realizing that beautiful things can be accomplished in the summertime, Bellator kicked off its 8-man featherweight tournament last night on MTV 2. If you happened to miss it, we’ve got a quick recap of how things went down along with a few gifs for your viewing pleasure after the jump.

Ronnie Mann and Adam Schindler both landed some hard combinations to start off their opening round fight. Schindler was twice denied the takedown, once clinching Mann against the cage and again later when shooting in from the outside. Sensing his opponent’s desire to fight on the ground, Mann obliged him courtesy of a right-uppercut left-hook combo that dropped Schindler to his back. From there a plethora of hammerfists rendered Schindler unconscious and advanced Mann to the semi-finals.

Luis Palomino stated that he wanted to contest this fight on the feet, but he found himself on the loosing end of both the stand-up and ground battles. After employing a series of heavy kicks, Palomino got rocked by a big right hand and flying knee that sent him falling backward against the cage. He scored a desperation takedown, but Curran popped right back up and secured a takedown of his own. Once on top, Curran worked for a D’Arce choke before switching it up to the rarely-seen Peruvian Necktie and drawing the tap with just over a minute left in the opening round.

Nazareno Malegarie knew how he wanted to defeat Jacob Devree from the opening bell, it just took him thirteen-and-a-half minutes to do it. Melagarie secured a takedown and locked up an arm-in guillotine just seconds into the bout, but Devree would eventually work free from that submission and the following heel hook attempt. Devree stuffed the early takedown attempt in round two only to end up in guillotine trouble again. He’d survive once more, but was mounted following his escape. Devree survived a series of bad positions and the second round, but in the final stanza he found himself both mounted and in a guillotine with no choice but to tap.

Marlon Sandro floored Genair da Silva in the first round with a big right-left combo followed by a guillotine attempt, but da Silva proved tough to finish. Sandro’s effort to keep the fight out of the hands of the judges was understandable at the end of the fight, where despite his seeming to win each round he took home a split decision victory. Judge Ric Bays cast the dissenting vote 29-28 for da Silva.
