Marina Rodriguez delivered a stunning display of violence en route to a second-round TKO against the ‘Karate Hottie’ at UFC Vegas 79.

Waterson-Gomez came out immediately looking to pressure Rodriguez and managed to put the Brazilian on her back in the opening seconds with a slick double-leg takedown. Rodriguez worked her way back up just past the 90-second mark and landed some solid knees in the clinch prompting Waterson-Gomez to back off.

Attempting to shoot for another takedown, Waterson-Gomez again found herself getting lit up in the clinch. With two minutes to go, Waterson-Gomez was a bloody mess after enduring a barrage of vicious knees and elbows from Rodriguez. To her credit, Waterson-Gomez never once stopped fighting back and miraculously managed to make it out of the first round.

In the second round, Waterson-Gomez continued to attempt to take things to the ground, but a reversal from Rodriguez allowed her to mount the ‘Karate Hottie’ and unleash a flurry of elbows that forced the referee to step and mercifully call for the stoppage.

Official Result: Marina Rodriguez def. Michelle Waterson-Gomez via TKO (elbows) at 2:42 of Round 2.

Amanda Lemos believes she should be next in line for a strawweight title shot after her win over Marina Rodriguez at UFC Vegas 64.

Lemos was able to land a brutal TKO on Rodriguez, handing Rodriguez her second loss. Lemos caught Rodriguez in the third round and smelled blood. Lemos has now strung together two wins in a row, as she was able to hand Michelle Waterson a loss in her last bout before this fight. She was able to get a submission in the second round of that fight.

Coming into this fight, Rodriguez was on a four fight win streak and many thought she should have been next for a title bout before Zhang Weili. Rodriguez is one of the best strikers in the decision, so it was a very eye opening win for Lemos.

Lemos was asked if she believes she should be next in line for the title shot.

“I mean surely, yeah I should be the next one to line up. I’l go back home rest for a week, go back to the gym and wait for the offering to fight for the title.” Lemos answered.

She also said she would not be in attendance for UFC 281 in New York next Saturday for when Weili takes on Carla Esparza for the title. Whoever wins that match will most likely be defending the title against Lemos in mid 2023.

Scoring the most impressive victory of her Octagon tenure to date, crushing strawweight hitter, Amanda Lemos becomes just the second fighter to defeat Brazilian compatriot, Marina Rodriguez — following in the footsteps of champion, Carla Esparza, as she rounds off UFC Vegas 64 with a brutal TKO stoppage.

Lemos, who entered tonight’s main event clash off the back of a guillotine win over Michelle Waterson, had suffered a prior standing arm-triangle submission loss to compatriot and former champion, Jessica Andrade in her first main event outing under the UFC banner.

Likely giving up a close first round against Santa Catarina striker, Rodriguez, Amanda Lemos showed her explosive grappling chops in the second frame, tripping Rodriguez to the ground in the clinch, before threatening both neck crank and rear-naked chokes.

In the early goings of the third, however, a massive right hand landed on the hairline of Rodriguez, splitting the Brazilian open and sending her backward, appearing out on her feet. Closing the distance and the proverbial show, Lemons sprung with a series of follow-up shots on the feet, landing a stoppage success as she calls for a shot at strawweight gold.
