Sean O'Malley

UFC bantamweight prospect Sean O’Malley has spoken out for the first time since Casey Kenney made sexual and insensitive remarks about Megan Anderson during an appearance on his podcast.

During a January episode of “The Timbo Sugarshow”, Kenney was asked by O’Malley’s coach, Tim Welch, if he would “smash” Megan Anderson.

“Probably not, man,” Kenney replied while laughing. “She’s not too … well, I mean, if it came down to it, and it was like 5 a.m., 4, she’s a 5 a.m.-er, 4 a.m.-er. Just us two hanging out, like, ‘F*ck it, let’s do it.’”

Anderson took to social media to blast Kenney for his “utterly degrading” remarks.

“I guess MMA is a line of work where you can publicly talk about whether you’d have sex with a coworker in an utterly degrading way and face zero consequences,” Anderson wrote. “Disgusting behavior and it’s unfortunate that he’ll be fighting on my card in March.

Kenney has since apologized for his comments but O’Malley had stayed silent on the issue until a recent interview with Ariel Helwani.

“I think that’s just a … I mean, you can’t let … if someone … you can’t let someone else’s words affect how you feel emotionally,” O’Malley said about Megan Anderson. “If you said something about me, and I … I don’t know. It’s … I don’t know. I don’t know. She’s not a co-worker anymore. It is what it is.” (Transcribed by MMA Junkie)

The former Invicta champion has seemly responded to O’Malleys comments with the below post on Twitter.

O’Malley is set to compete at UFC 260 this Saturday. ‘Suga’ will face Thomas Almeida.

It’s his first bout back since losing his undefeated record against Marlon Vera at UFC 252.

Do you think Sean O’Malley should’ve been more apologetic for his role in upsetting Megan Anderson?

Megan Anderson

Featherweight Megan Anderson has completed her current contract with the UFC and looks to test the waters of free agency.

Anderson is coming off a quick submission loss to WMMA’s GOAT, Amanda Nunes at UFC 259 last weekend. This was the last fight on her contract. The Aussie was looking to renew her terms with the UFC as the featherweight champion, making more money than ever. However, things don’t always play out the way we want them to.

“The Lioness” has just about cleaned out the den at 135 and now 145lbs, with few contenders on the rise. Anderson was that young lion who among 7 others fell short of the ultimate goal to get the strap from the champ-champ.

From the ashes of the co-main event, Anderson would eventually go onto social media to react to the fast defeat.

Additionally, the gamer would go on her Twitch to discuss the fight and her future in the fight game. With a uncertain future in the promotion, the Australian would go on to voice more of her thoughts. One being that the UFC had decided to cut the featherweight division.

This was later found to be untrue, UFC officials told ESPN’s Marc Raimondi. As stated in the UFC 259 post-fight presser, Dana White intends to keep the division open as long as Amanda Nunes wants to defend up there.

It is unsure at this time if the contract-completed Anderson will either re-sign with the UFC or venture off into another promotion. With PFL, Bellator and Invicta having more fighters on the roster at 145 (155 for PFL), it is very likely Anderson will move out. No official decision has been made yet, but the Featherweight seems to be heading toward signing with another promotion, providing the lack of talent and opportunities at UFC’s 145 division currently.

Anderson would go on to release a statement following the news.

“Saturday night was fight number 6 of my 6 fight deal with the UFC.” said Anderson on Instagram. “I had an amazing run with the promotion, culminating in a UFC world title fight. If you know me and the journey I have been on, just to reach the pinnacle of the sport is something I am incredibly proud of. I want to thank my team and everyone at the UFC for the past 3 years, it’s been amazing to perform for my fans on such a big stage.”

“I’m looking to rest up and heal from my injuries before I decide what is next for my MMA career.” Anderson added. “Regardless of what the UFC decides to do with the Women’s 145 division, there are plenty of opportunities for me across the world to continue to do what I love.”

“Thank you all, and stay tuned!”

Megan Anderson is fresh off her quick submission loss to dual-weight champion Amanda Nunes.

The Australian was no match for Nunes who was able to hit and hurt her early before locking up a triangle/armbar to force the tap.

Since the fight MMA fans and pundits have been speculating about the future of the UFC’s women’s featherweight division.

Dana White tried to shut down speculation post-fight at UFC 259 by saying as long as Nunes wants to keep fighting, 145lbs will always be an option.

During a recent stream on her Twitch, Anderson confirmed that she is set to leave the UFC.

She also claimed the promotion is set to scrap the women’s featherweight division entirely.

Marc Raimondi later shut down the claims from Anderson, who he confirmed is no longer a UFC fighter. The ESPN reporter told his social media followers that the UFC had not cut the women’s featherweight division and will continue to do fights at 145lbs as long as Nunes wants to.

“Regarding the reports out there about the UFC cutting its women’s featherweight division, UFC officials say it’s not true and what UFC president Dana White said Saturday about the future of the division still stands,” Raimondi wrote. “White said after UFC 259 that the UFC will “keep that division cranking” as long as Amanda Nunes wants to continue defending the women’s featherweight title.”

The former Invicta champion had a mixed set of results during her six Octagon appearances. Anderson was handily beaten in her UFC debut when she faced former bantamweight champion Holly Holm. The 31-year-old picked up her first UFC win against Cat Zingano in controversial circumstances – Zingano unable to continue due to an eye injury. Anderson was then tapped out by Felicia Spencer before picking up back-to-back wins against relatively unknown fighters to earn a shot at ‘The Lioness’.
