Police Find Suspect Vehicle In Ryan Jimmo Hit-And-Run Case

Another tragedy struck the mixed martial arts community this week. UFC veteran and former MFC light-heavyweight champion Ryan Jimmo sadly died in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The incident was later revealed to be a hit-and-run, the suspect was still at large as of this past Monday (June 27, 2016), and what started as a terribly tragic event was quickly developing in to a homicide case. Now, according to a report on Global News, police have found the suspect vehicle involved in Jimmo’s fatal hit-and-run after a number of widespread appeals.

Edmonton police were asking for info or the known whereabouts of this black pickup, and it now appears they have located the vehicle. Further details remain undisclosed at this stage, but homicide detectives have taken over the case and the truck is being examined by a forensics team.

Jimmo was 19-5 as a professional mixed martial artist, and became popular for his heavy hands and unique celebrations after victory. Everyone that knew him said he was truly a great person to be around.

Luke Harris trained with Jimmo for 10 years at the Hayabusa center in St. Albert, and had some touching words to describe ‘Big Deal’ with:

“He was just a pleasure to be around. If you know Ryan, he’s never a guy that’s too serious. He’s serious when he’s in the cage and looks like a big tough guy, but I mean, he’s probably the gentlest, easy-going guy you’d ever meet with an absolutely huge heart,” Harris said. “It’s a big tragedy losing a guy like that. Especially 34 and such a special person.”

A former coach of Jimmo, Peter Martell, had the following to say after the Canadian’s sad passing:

“I knew Ryan inside and outside of the gym and he was a nice guy. He was a gentle soul, he was always happy, always joking. I don’t think I ever heard him say anything bad about anybody,”

McKee and Cobb Both Fired After MFC 32: Bitter Rivals

This is now even less likely to ever get televised, while Caged is a real show. Yeah, that sounds about right.

Antonio McKee is now officially a free agent. After missing weight by an inexcusable seven pounds for his title defense against Brian Cobb last night- resulting in the fight being changed to a three round non-title affair and McKee forfeiting twenty percent of his purse- McKee was released from his MFC contract. And yes, Antonio McKee defeated Brian Cobb by unanimous decision last night in his last appearance (possibly) under the MFC banner.

For those of you still reading, Brian Cobb also missed weight for the evening’s co-main event. Brian Cobb came in a whopping half pound overweight, resulting in promoter Mark Pavelich telling him that it was now “win or go home” for him as well. Despite taking the third round from a clearly exhausted McKee, Cobb came up short and was subsequently released from the promotion. It would have been interesting to see how the championship rounds would have played out, you know, if both men actually made weight and all.

This is now even less likely to ever get televised, while Caged is a real show. Yeah, that sounds about right.

And before you even start, not one word about whether or not Cobb’s release was “fair”.

Also of note, Wilson Gouveia picked up his first victory in three years against Dwayne Lewis. Gouveia showed off a much improved standup attack against Lewis, including dozens of leg kicks that had Lewis visably limping before being punched out in the second round. Tough loss for “D-Bomb”, but at least it didn’t end as badly for him as his last fight did.

As a result of the infraction “Mandingo” will be fined 20 percent of his purse stripped of his title and will be let go from the remainder of his contract with the promotion.

If he wanted to push back, since he has nothing to lose at this point besides his pay for the fight, McKee could just hop on a plane and leave the MFC in the lurch for their main event tomorrow night, since reps from the promotion already announced it’s the last time he’ll fight under their banner.

Seven pounds is inexcusable, especially for a veteran like McKee, but the guy is 41 years old and cuts a lot of weight. Maybe his body has had enough of the torture of weight cutting he’s inflicted on it for decades while he dropped dozens of pounds to wrestle and fight.

Unfortunately for Antonio when this door closes it’s unlikely that another one will open up for him any time soon considering that when he was dropped by the UFC following his UFC 125 loss to Jacob Volkmann he called Zuffa “the new slave masters” and the UFC “the new slave plantation.” Just wait and see what he has to say about MFC president Mark Pavelich, who took him back after vowing to never rehire him when he vacated the title to fight for the UFC. Whoever he compares him to, we’re guessing it will be someone with a penchant for wearing white hoods and burning crosses. *sigh*

The UFC announced today that it has signed Maximum Fighting Championship light heavyweight champion and CagePotato guest blogger Ryan Jimmo to face Czech wrestler Karlos Vemola on the inaugural UFC on FX 1 card January 20 in Nashville, Tennessee.

“The Big Deal” will put his 16-fight undefeated streak on the line as he steps into the Octagon for the first time against Vemola, who is 1-1 in two UFC starts.

We spoke with Ryan today, and as expected, he was ecstatic about “the big deal,” but couldn’t disclose any of the details of his new multi-fight contract as per Zuffa policy.

“I’m very happy and excited to be joining the UFC and to be given this opportunity to prove myself on the world’s biggest stage. I started training 27-years ago with my father and have worked very hard to get to where I am. I’d like to thank Joe Silva, Dana White and the Fertittas for giving me my shot and everyone who helped me achieve this goal including my manager Bobby, all of my sponsors, training partners, family, friends, and Mark and the MFC for helping me get here,” Jimmo said. “Without all of their help and support I never would have gotten to where I am. Karlos Vemola is a stiff test for my first UFC fight and I’m going to make sure I entertain the fans and put on a great fight on January 20.”

A handful of other match-ups for the event, which will be headlined by a lightweight tilt between Jim Miller and Melvin Guillard, were announced for the card, bringing the number of scheduled bouts to eight.

The best part is that you can see Lynn setting up the strike and throwing a tester out there just moments before he finds his range. And he makes sure that his first strike is a good one, clearly trying to earn a spot in our first punch hall of fame. But it’s first PUNCH Adam. Learn to read the fine print.

Maximum Fighting Championship Extends Deal with HDNet for Five More Years

Okay, so maybe Maximum Fighting Championship may not have the exposure or roster depth of the UFC. You know, just maybe. But unlike its major league counterpart, it does have a sturdy broadcasting deal. According to Sherdog, yesterday MFC and HDNet announced that they inked a new deal, extending their partnership for an additional five years. Their partnership, which began back in 2008, is now expected to carry on into 2016.

The promotion’s next event, MFC 31, will take place on October 14^th. The card will feature newly re-crowned lightweight champion Antonio McKee squaring off against Brian “The Bandit” Cobb, who is a member of Team Pain and Suffering. Go figure. Neither the location of the event or other bouts on the card has been announced yet, but you know where you’ll be able to watch it.
