Coming off of the biggest win of his UFC career over one of the greatest mixed martial artists of all-time in Anderson Silva, it appears the name of Michael Bisping’s next opponent could be released soon.

Reports have surfaced that he is targeted to be fighting the surging No. 6-ranked Robbert Whittaker.

According to a source via The Bloody Elbow, Bisping (28-7) is rumored to not accept the bout “unless forced” by UFC brass. The two were originally scheduled to meet last November at UFC 193 in Melbourne. However, the Englishman was forced out due to an unfortunate elbow injury that would require surgery and was later replaced by Uriah Hall.

Whittaker (16-4) is riding an impressive five fight win-streak, including his most recent unanimous decision victory over Rafael Natal at UFC 197 in late April.

Robert Whittaker

According to the source Whittaker is targeted to headline his first UFC event from the Rob Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia, being targeted for later this year in November.

Across from Bisping’s rumored reluctance to take on the rising New Zealander, Whittaker is said to be open to the bout with ‘The Count’ or any other opponent UFC officials might want for him to headline the Australian card against.

A win over Bisping would be huge for Whittaker, who continues to make his steady climb to the top of the 185-pound division, while a win over Whittaker, following his upset over Anderson Silva, should almost guarantee a title shot for the longtime veteran.

The UFC has yet to make any official announcement on the rumored bout as of this writing.
