UFC 189 Main Card

Featherweight: Chad Mendes vs Conor McGregor

I’ve seen the odds flip flop on this one and now McGregor is favored. I think Conor is going to win here. I’m not concerned about the takedown. I am concerned about the reach advantage for McGregor.

Welterweight: Robbie Lawler (Champion) vs Rory MacDonald

Such a tough call here as Lawler has been incredible in his career resurgence. Rory is a dangerous robot with precision, while Lawler is a technical boxer with serious power. I want Robbie to win, but I’m seeing Rory taking this fight. MacDonald is favored.

Featherweight: Dennis Bermudez vs Jeremy Stephens

I always bet with Stephens, but my guy has me thinking Bermudez is going to win this.

Welterweight: Gunnar Nelson vs Brandon Thatch

I don’t know if Nelson will be able to deal with the onslaught that Thatch brings.

Bantamweight: Brad Pickett vs Thomas Almeida

Everytime I pick Pickett, I lose. Pass as Almeida is insanely favored.

Preliminary Card (Fox Sports 1)

Welterweight: Matt Brown vs Tim Means

Matt Brown

Welterweight: Mike Swick vs Alex Garcia

Swick on the comeback – Pass

Welterweight: Cathal Pendred vs John Howard

Cathal is pretty relentless as a fighter and John Howard has shown that he tires in later rounds. However, John Howard has more weapons to win this and like him to win here.

Jon Jones vs Daniel Cormier

Probably the most anticipated fight that I can remember, pits the imho, the current best p4p and certainly one of the best ever in history, Jon Jones, vs the dangerous and elusively strong wrestler, Daniel Cormier. Probably the most anticipated fight that I can remember, pits the imho, the current best p4p and certainly one of the best ever in history, Jon Jones, vs the dangerous and elusively strong wrestler, Daniel Cormier. The odds have Jon Jones favored -165 at Intertops, but most Pros have been picking Cormier to come out on top. In fact, from my research most fans think Cormier will be victorious as well.

There is no doubt, Cormier is unlike anyone Jon Jones has faced previously. The only one close to similar skills would be Rashad Evans, who has fought at heavyweight, had a great wrestling game, and Jones won that easily. HOWEVER, Cormier is a different beast. He stands in the pocket better, he throws tighter punches, and his wrestling is undeniably much better. Cormier wrestles effortlessly. It is different. Plain and simple. There is barely a struggle. Its all in his hips and where he places his base. It is second nature.

Cormier has gone the distance with fighters several times against fights with lesser fighters – much lesser. I have to think this one will at LEAST go the distance against one of the greatest fighters ever even in a Jon Jones loss. Those decisions were also very lopsided fights all unanimously in Cormier’s favor. Jones on the other hand has finished more fights, but also has a few unanimous decisions. The ONE fight that is questionable was against Gustaffson, which I think Jones lost a close one there, but it really was so close, Gustaffson didn’t take it away from the champ, so the judges didn’t it score it in Gustaffson’s favor. I understand that.

With the odds favoring Jones, I think this is a pass, however, I have been thinking Cormier will win this fight for a long time and now I’m switching it and think Jones will pull off an amazing win. As much as people are talking about Jones not facing a wrestler of this caliber, conversely, Cormier has not fought against a striker of Jones caliber. Nor has he fought someone with this reach. If Jones can sprawl and brawl plus avoid the takedown, I think Jones will win this. If either gets on top, I think its going to be problems for either fighter, but I think Jones survives more top damage, than Cormier will.

UFC 168 Silva vs Weidman 2 Fight Card Predictions

Chris Weidman (c) vs Anderson Silva Prediction Silva will come out and do what he did to Weidman in the first round of their meetup without all the fanfare and clowning. Expecting big knees that will end this fight in the third. Ronda Rousey (c) vs Miesha Tate Prediction I don’t think Tate can do [&hellip

Chris Weidman (c) vs Anderson Silva Prediction

Silva will come out and do what he did to Weidman in the first round of their meetup without all the fanfare and clowning. Expecting big knees that will end this fight in the third.

Ronda Rousey (c) vs Miesha Tate Prediction

I don’t think Tate can do anything against Rousey. Rousey can take her down at will and keep her there. She is -700 though and its not worth playing.

Josh Barnett vs Travis Browne Prediction

Browne is a tough fighter, but Barnett will have the size to pin him up against the cage, dirty box a bit and then ultimately get Browne on his back. Barnett has a tough chin so I don’t expect him to get lucky against Josh. Expecting Barnett to control most of the fight and probably get the decision.

Jim Miller vs. Fabrício Camões Prediction

Pass

Dustin Poirier vs. Diego Brandao

This one is going to come down to cardio or if Brandao and connect his power punch. Can Poirer submit Brandao? Maybe, but not likely. Brandao is very good at jiujitsu, but you rarely see it. He is also great at submission defense and instead likes to stand up and trade. I like Brandao here if he’s got his cardio together.

Chris Leben vs. Uriah Hall Prediction

Should be a good fight, but I think Uriah Hall will bring what he needs to in this fight. He has looked horrible his last two outings and he knows he can get cut here with one more shitty performance. They know this the UFC and that is why they put in the terminator Leben, who always walks forward and will make Hall fight.

I got Uriah in this one winning.

Gleison Tibau vs. Michael Johnson

Johnson

Dennis Siver vs. Manny Gamburyan

Siver is always fun to watch, but I’m, taking Manny here because I’m a fan. Siver is the busier fighter with more ways to win and is more powerful.

John Howard vs. Siyar Bahadurzada

William Macario vs. Bobby Voelker

World Series of Fighting 8 Hollywood, Florida Picks

Lewis Gonzalez vs Justin Gaethje

I don’t know who Lewis Gonzalez is, but I saw Justin Gaethje fight in Miami and he destroyed Dan Lauzon. Gaethje fights very smart and attacks where he should be attacking at the right spots. When Lauzon was covering up low Justin went high and vice versa. Surprisingly a lot of fighters don’t take advantage of simple things like that. It might just be that in the heat of the moment its hard to think. I’m picking Gaethje.W

Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson vs Mike ‘MAK’ Kyle

Anthony Johnson has the speed and will have a kicking advantage. On top of that Johnson should have a slight reach advantage as well. Kyle will have the power advantage and his stamina has really improved over the years. Johnson is very hard to finish and I see this one going to distance due to Kyle’s durability, but the win going to Anthony for being more active.

Cody ‘Bam Bam’ Bollinger vs Tyson Nam Tyson Nam

Cody is the first fighter that got sent home from this season of TUF for missing weight. On the show he seemed like one of the favorites to win the whole thing. I’m sure that embarrassing national tv situation will have him fired to up to prove himself. I’m picking Cody here.

Welterweight Championship Fight Predictions

Georges St-Pierre (c) vs Johny Hendricks

I saw the weigh ins and Georges is very pumped up for this fight. It will be interesting to see if Hendricks can connect with GSP’s chin since its been clocked before and the switch has been flipped by Serra and Condit before. Hendricks is more powerful than both of those guys (based on in the cage performace).

Pick: GSP has shown an ability to endure, I want to think that GSP will do enough NOT to get knocked out and win a decision in the end as well.

Rashad Evans vs. Chael Sonnen

I just bumped into Evans at WSOF 6 last month and he was in good spirits and looked ready to go. Evans should be too fast for Sonnen and will land more overall strikes. I don’t think Sonnen will be able to keep Evans down long enough to win rounds vs Evans ability to do the same plus better striking.

Pick: Evans.

Rory MacDonald vs. Robbie Lawler

MacDonald is the Wizard. He looks stoic and ready to fight efficiently every time. Lawler looks nasty at this weight now and his added size from fighting at middleweight might be a problem for Rory. We will see.

Cetainly the conditioning edge will go to MacDonald.

Pick: With Rory a huge favorite here, I think there is value in picking Lawler.

Josh Koscheck vs. Tyron Woodley

Woodley really hasn’t faced that many great guys, but he is great himself. He has steamrolled many fighters and is ability to not get taken down is one of the best.

Pick: Odds are about even here. Koscheck’s jaw has been clicked before and Woodley looks like he is getting stronger every fight. I’m torn here, but I will give edge to Koscheck with the experience.

Tim Elliott vs. Ali Bagautinov

Pass

Preliminary card (Fox Sports 1)

Donald Cerrone vs. Evan Dunham

Such a good fight. I can see Dunham winning by submission, but this fight is probably best bet via going the distance.

Pick: Dunham

Ed Herman vs. Thales Leites

Pick: I like Leites here with his return to the UFC. He is a little bigger and I don’t think Herman brings anything that Leites isn’t capable of handling except conditioning, but I think Leites will be prepared since he’s been out of the UFC and will want the taste of the spotlight again. Remember he contended for the title against Silva?

Pick: Leites

Brian Ebersole vs. Rick Story

Also an amazing fight. If this goes the distance Story is the busier fighter. However, I always ride with Ebersole. His experience and ability to fight smart is uncanny.

Pick: Ebersole

Erik Perez vs. Edwin Figueroa

Pass

Preliminary card (Facebook/YouTube)

Jason High vs. Anthony Lapsley

Will Campuzano vs. Sergio Pettis

The odds are way too high here to take Pettis. With Campuzano fighting on short notice I understand why against the undefeated Pettis.

Gian Villante vs. Cody Donovan

Renan ‘Barao’ Pegado vs Michael ‘Mayday’ McDonald

McDonald. Such a great fight, but I think McDonald will win.

Cub Swanson vs Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier

Swanson has a ton of confidence right now knocking out the last 3 opponents and did VERY well at avoiding the takedown attempts from Ross Pearson. Poirier is similar, but he is not grindy like Pearson. Poirer is crafty. I think Dustin will get the submission at some point and survive Swanson’s devastating punching power. Swanson will be pissed.

Jimi ‘Poster Boy’ Manuwa vs Cyrille ‘Snake’ Diabate

Diabate will annihilate.

Gunnar ‘Gunni’ Nelson vs Jorge ‘The Sandman’ Santiago

I’m thinking the man from Iceland will beat the veteran Santiago who is usually very inconsistent. Nelson.

James Te Huna vs Ryan ‘Big Deal’ Jimmo

Te Huna is a beast, but I think Jimmo will prevail. The guy is smart and crafty and has heavy hands as well.

Matt ‘Deep Waters’ Riddle vs Che ‘Beautiful’ Mills

Riddle is a dangerous and will win.

Terry Etim vs Renee Forte

Etim needs a comeback victory after turning into a highlight reel where he was KO’d by a vicious kick.

Paul ‘Sassangle’ Sass vs Danny ‘Last Call’ Castillo

Josh ‘The Fluke’ Grispi vs Andy ‘The Little Axe’ Ogle

Grispi needs this.
