The Trailer For Jose Aldo’s Biopic Is Sex, Violence, More Sex, and Lots of Slo-Mo

(Wait a minute…THOSE AREN’T REEBOK SHORTS.)

Did you guys know that Jose Aldo had a biographical film about his life coming out? Well, I didn’t, and I pretty much know everything about MMA these days (excluding fight dates, title holders, and 80% of the rosters on Fight Pass cards).

Well, he does, and it’s called “Mais forte que o mundo – A história de Jose Aldo” or Stronger Than the World – The Jose Aldo Story (sounds like someone’s been ripping off Chad Dundas, no?). Chronicling Aldo’s rise from the slums of Brazil to his championship runs in the WEC and UFC, Stronger Than the World takes an interesting approach to Aldo’s story by a) casting someone that looks nothing like him and b) delving into Jose Aldo: gifted lover. Also, they throw a Showtime Kick in there, because apparently Aldo did that and we’re all just remembering it wrong.

Trailer after the jump.

Honestly, this whole trailer could have just been a reenactment of Jose buying his first suit and we would’ve been sold, but this’ll do just fine. Could’ve used a little more slo-mo, though. (<—-sarcasm. It felt 4 hours long.)

Jose Aldo: Never Back Down is set for a 2016 release, but will probably pull out a few months before and come out sometime in 2017.

FilmPotato: Georges St. Pierre to Star in Kickboxer Remake Alongside Batista

(Gentlemen, it needs more TELEGRAPHED KICKS AND PUNCHES!!)

At last, at last, a remake of the 1989 Jean Claude Van Damme vehicle, Kickboxer, is on the way. Put your worries to rest, Nation, the Karate Kid ripoff once described as “the dumbest action picture of the year” will finally be told the way it should. Not since the Power Rangers reboot have I been so excited to see another blatant cash grab! Focus group testing FTW!!

In addition to introducing “world-renowned stuntman” Alain Moussi as it’s lead, the poor man’s Bloodsport remake will co-star former UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre — fresh off his role as Batroc the Leaper in Captain America: Winter Soldier — and WWE star/one-time MMA fighter Dave Batista. So sayeth a press release sent out earlier today:

KICKBOXER will be directed by Chinese phenomenon Stephen Fung (TAI CHI ZERO, TAI CHI HERO) and produced hit maker Ted Field of Radar Pictures (RIDDICK Series, THE LAST SAMURAI). KICKBOXER will star UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre (CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER), and WWE superstar Dave Bautista (GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY.)

The film will also be introducing Alain Moussi as its lead. Mr. Moussi is a world-renowned stunt man / martial artists, performing in such films as (X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, IMMORTALS, PACIFIC RIM, WHITEHOUSE DOWN). “Alain is a star and will be an amazing leading man,” said Filed “Like Vin in RIDDICK, Alain will make this movie very special and this KICKBOXER reboot will be the start of an amazing franchise”.

Additional cast will be announced shortly.

A foreign director’s big screen American debut, starring a stuntman, an MMA fighter, and a professional wrestler. HOW COULD IT GO WRONG?!

A foreign director’s big screen American debut, starring a stuntman, an MMA fighter, and a professional wrestler. HOW COULD IT GO WRONG?! I kid, I kid; this movie will be terrible. In the history of film remakes, there are only a handful that have been anything other than terrible, and they are: Dawn of the Dead, Brothers, Heat, and The Thing. There is no arguing this.

Of course, it doesn’t help that the filmmakers have gotten off to a terrible start by failing to cast GSP as the film’s lead. Aside from his close ties to Van Damme, St. Pierre already has JCVD’s dance moves nailed down…

I swear to God, if they remake The Raid, I will eat a baby.

[VIDEO] Ronda Rousey Unleashes Her Road Rage on the Set of the “Entourage” Movie

(Via X17Online)

Let the two year countdown begin.

In addition to lining up roles in the next Expendables movie, the next Fast and Furious movie (yay new ideas!), and Warner Bros. The Athena Project, UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey also managed to land herself a role in the upcoming Entourage movie, based on the novel “Push” by Sapphire*. The first on-set footage of Rousey in action was released earlier today, and based on what we’ve seen, it appears that Ronda will be playing the role of a leather-clad, overreactionary badass with a potty mouth and penchant for violence. You know, a real “Ronda Rousey” type.

In the scene above, Ronda takes a tactical baton to the vehicle of the titular character, “The Entourage,” while the driver character begs her to stop and insists that she knows him. Classic driver character, amiright? (I actually have no idea, as I’ve never seen an episode of Entourage and will likely never see this movie either.)

The “Entourage” movie is tentatively scheduled to hit theaters on June 12, 2015, which will also mark the occasion that Rousey is once again forced to go agro on a group of dude-bros who watch this shit.

Edward James Olmos and Anderson Silva to Co-Star in an Independent Film About MMA That May or May Not Get Made

(“Remember, Anderson. It isn’t a troll if you believe it.”| Photo by Esther Lin for MMAFighting)

We love MMA-related movies as much as the next blog here at CagePotato. Heck, every 100th one isn’t even stupendously horrid.

So needless to say, it caught our attention today when we read that Oscar nominee Edward James Olmos was excited to be a part of a project whose story includes an MMA fighter protagonist and would also co-star former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva. MMA Junkie had the strange report:

The Oscar-nominated actor is part of a new film project called ‘Monday Nights at Seven’ that stars actor/director Marty Sader in a love and life story against the backdrop of the MMA world. But what is unique about the movie in its infancy is that the team behind it is seeking to have it funded through Kickstarter, a crowd-funding site that lets supporters contribute financially in exchange for rewards once the financing goal is hit.

Sader will play the lead role as an MMA fighter, Anderson Silva will be his coach, and Olmos will play Sader’s father. But the movie’s release isn’t a sure thing just quite yet. That’s kind of up to you, dear reader. And so far, things are not looking great. The film’s Kickstarter campaign runs until the end of this month and has a goal of $500,000. So far, Junkie reports that it has raised just over $10,000.

So far, Junkie reports that it has raised just over $10,000.

We’ve seen some horrible results from MMA movies produced by director/stars before *cough Hector Echavarria cough*  but we watched a few minutes of Sader’s self-made film “Most High” on Netflix recently and so we’re at least optimistic that he’ll treat this fight story with seriousness.

But still, how believable can a film be when it’s fighter star is frumpy, has a Mexican-American father despite himself looking like he is of Indian sub-continent descent, and has Anderson Silva in an English-speaking main role? How many “thassit” and “this is my job” remarks do you think they’ll be able to fit in for Anderson?

Perhaps more dubious is the fact that their Kickstarter campaign isn’t just an opportunity for fans to support the dream of a filmmaker and actors they admire — it’s an opportunity to kind of bunk the film for themselves. A speaking role in “Monday Nights at Seven,” can be purchased for $10,000, for example.

It looks as if the ending hasn’t been written, either. Reportedly, Sader “will have an actual fight for Resurrection Fighting Alliance that will be part of the film’s climax. As such, the ending is open until he gets that fight — he might win, he might lose.”

But he definitely won’t look that good doing either. So, yeah. Donate money to a film with weird stunt-casting, a story that hasn’t been planned out to completion, and whose climax will include a fight scene with a non-athlete, first-time fighter.

I’m probably just hungry and grumpy. Maybe the idea is so innovative that it will be cool. And who are we to crap on someone’s dream anyway?

Go check out their Kickstarter and decide for yourself if you want to help make Anderson Silva the movie star his sensei Steven Seagal always believed he could be.

Georges St. Pierre’s Next Opponent Will Be Captain America, Confusing Gullible Randy Couture Fans Worldwide

(The face of pure French-Canadian evil. / Image coutesy of MMAWeekly)

By Nathan Smith

*SPOILER ALERT* Georges St. Pierre is guaranteed to lose his next big fight. He will finally meet an opponent that he can not out-wrestle for 25 minutes and his next foe will be able to trade punches with him at will. GSP will positively get his ass handed to him.  Sorry Johny Hendricks, you can stop reading now because this post has nothing to do with you.

The reigning UFC welterweight champion has been cast as a villain in the upcoming Captain America: The Winter Soldier due for release on April 4, 2014. St. Pierre will play the roll of Batroc the Leaper (aka Georges Batroc) and although I embrace my inner geek, I was never much of a comic book guy nor did I ever have a pube mustache or own a set of dice with more than six sides, so I think it would be best to let the Wikipedia link describe GSP’s character.

Batroc has no superhuman abilities, but is in peak physical condition in every respect. He is an Olympic-level weightlifter and has extraordinary agility and reflexes. His leg muscles are particularly well developed enabling him to leap great distances equal to an Olympic athlete. He is an expert hand-to-hand combatant and specializes in savate (French-style kickboxing). He is also a skilled military tactician, having formerly been in the French Foreign Legion.

Batroc is also an experienced thief and smuggler, and can speak both French and English. Although, as a mercenary, he does not hesitate to perform any number of criminal acts for his clients, Batroc has, by his own rights, a strong sense of honor, and he will turn against any client whom he feels has unfairly deceived him into committing crimes to which he might not otherwise have agreed.”

St. Pierre joins Randy Couture (The Expendables and the sequel), Quinton Jackson (The A-Team), and Gina Carano (Haywire) as the latest MMA star to cross over into legitimate big-budget Hollywood films. GSP is the current UFC PPV kingpin and because of his popularity and GQ exterior, it was only a matter of time before he was brought to the silver screen. Couture and Jackson had moderate box office success with their films while Carano’s movie kind of tanked, but with a built-in audience that accompanies a super hero film franchise, Captain America: The Winter Soldier will probably be breaking the bank, considering the previous two movies in which Captain America appeared (The Avengers and Captain America: The First Avenger) raked in a combined $1.8 BILLION worldwide (that is NOT a typo).

Specific details are not known for the size of St. Pierre’s role, but it is assumed that Batroc the Leaper will be an ancillary character. Couture and Rampage were allowed to use their own voices within their films but Carano’s vocal tone was manipulated during the post-production of Haywire to make sure her character was “a completely different entity,” or some such bullshit. Although Batroc hails from France and GSP has a fairly thick French/Canadian accent, one can only wonder if his lines will be given the Carano treatment or completely dubbed like Schwarzenegger in Hercules in New York. There is also no word on what costume GSP will be wearing for the film but we can guess that it will consist of something skin-tight, and hopefully it will not offend Chan Sung Jung.

Captain America is okay but he is way down on the list of this writer’s favorite Captains. There was Captain Stubing, Captain Kangaroo, Captain Kirk and this guy at the very top, but will any of you Taters go see Captain America: The Winter Soldier just because of St. Pierre’s involvement? Conversely, will all the GSP haters boycott the film due to his participation? Sound off below.

Report: Anderson Silva to Co-Star in Major MMA Blockbuster Tapped

(We’ll give Anderson this, he has an ability to facially express himself that not even Ernest P. Worrell could hold a candle to.)

Good afternoon, Potato Nation, Danga here. As many of you may or may not have realized/elated over, I have been out of the office since last Thursday, first taking a trip down to New York City, then heading out to Boston to move into the apartment at which I currently reside. Aside from being called a “fahkin retahd” by nearly every citizen who shared the road with me, it was a relatively painless move, but one that left me without Internet access for a good three or four days, which in Internet time is roughly 6 months.

At least that was what it felt like. When I fired up my computer this morning to peruse over CagePotato and see what the MMA world had been up to in my absence, I expected to find a couple sweet knockout videos and maybe a Labor Day-themed article or two. Suffice it to say, I was shocked to find that not only had CP managed to snag a “fight scientist” to impress us with his “graphs” and “numbers” and “empirical data,” but we were even granted access to a behind-the-scenes look at a local New Jersey-based event. And elsewhere, not only had Erik Koch been replaced by Frankie Edgar against Jose Aldo at UFC 153, but Aldo had been hit by a car (which I imagined looked something like this) and promptly told the injury curse of 2012 to go fuck itself. I was less surprised to learn, however, that Arlovski/Sylvia IV ended in controversy and bitter disappointment for those involved, but the fact that Tim Sylvia was even partly responsible for actual progress in the MMA world nearly made up for all the pain and suffering he has brought upon both himself and the sport in the past few years.

Of course, today is a new day, and with it comes a bit of mixed news. Regardless of who you feel deserves the next shot at Anderson Silva, the fact that “The Spider” is turning down fights in the weight class he resides over in favor of a possible superfight against GSP is a frustrating, if not equally intriguing prospect for MMA fans to digest. But as it turns out, Silva’s absence from the octagon in the near future may also be linked to something a little harder to swallow. Mainly, movie stardom. Because according to a report from metronews.ca, Silva may be heading to England down the line to promote and star in a major-budget MMA film called Tapped.

Details after the jump.

Because according to a report from metronews.ca, Silva may be heading to Canada down the line to promote and star in a major-budget MMA film called Tapped.

Although details remain sketchy at the moment, Silva’s name, along with Lyoto Machida and retired UFC fighter Krzysztof Soszynski have been linked to “the biggest film that’s been shot in London”:

Ultimate Fighting Championship icon Anderson Silva — along with a handful of “big celebrities” — is starring in a Hollywood motion picture that will be partly produced in London over the next couple of months.

We’re not at liberty to discuss the logistics and budgets, but we’ve been told it’s the biggest film that has been shot in London,” said Allan Ungar, director of Tapped. Other UFC stars, namely Lyoto Machida andKrzysztof Soszynski, will appear in the “Karate Kid meets MMA” full-length movie being produced by Tapped Pictures.

You may remember Silva as the star of such commercials as “Ode to the Fatburger”“Showdown with the Swollen Sensei”, and “Holy Sh*t This Guy Speaks English!”, but a starring film role for the champ could signal the beginning of a whole new chapter in the MMA fighter turned actor saga. Hell, if Andy is able to impress, he could be starring in his own direct-to-DVD Air Force One ripoffs in less than a year’s time. We knew Silva was planning to take some time off, but who knew that he’d been bitten so hard by the Hollywood bug?

Semi-related: CagePotato has recently been granted an early screener of the upcoming film Brawler, which looks like a combination of Warrior and Bloodsport. The IMDB page summary goes like this:

Sidelined by an injury incurred while protecting his young brother, underground fighter Charlie Fontaine feels blindsided when he discovers his brother having sex on his couch with his new wife, Kat. Fueled by rage, a determined Charlie makes plans to get back in the ring and take on his brother in a fight to the death.

Being that I’ve finally seen Warrior (Spoiler: It was pretty freakin’ sweet, but you should still check out Redbelt), I figured I would possibly draft up a review of Brawler to give you MMA-movie fanatics a little perspective on the film and how it compares to its counterparts in the genre. I’ve attached the trailer below, so check it out and let me know how interested you’d be in a review of the film in the comments section.
