Jared Cannonier picked to beat Khamzat Chimaev I think he f*cks him up UFC

Whilst initially shutting down the prospect of a matchup with the undefeated welterweight, Khamzat Chimaev following his record-setting UFC Vegad 75 victory over the course of last weekend, Jared Cannonier has been backed to hand the Chechen his first-ever professional loss, by head coach, Tim Welch.

Cannonier, who improved to 2-0 since he unsuccessfully challenged for middleweight gold back in July of last year during International Fight Week, turned in a dominant unanimous decision victory against fellow one-time title chaser, Marvin Vettori at the UFC Apex facility.

The Dallas native had previously returned to the winner’s enclosure back in December of last year in a main event fight against Sean Strickland, defeating the perennial contender in a close, debated split decision triumph.

Weighing up the prospect of fighting Chimaev next – with the AllStars MMA staple expected to make a move to the middleweight limit for his Octagon return, Cannonier claimed he would only entertain a bout if he was guaranteed a title tilt with a victory.

“Does that fight [with Khamzat Chimaev] give me a title shot?” Jared Cannonier after UFC Vegas 75. “I don’t know, he’s not even ranked in middleweight. So, I mean, I know he’s popular. Everybody wants to see him do his thing and stuff like that. If they call me and say, ‘Hey, how’s that for contenders match?’ That’s a yes.”

“I’m trying to get to the title,” Jared Cannonier explained. “I’m not just fighting to entertain you people. You know what I mean? I know you guys want to see it. I know it will be a good fight. If that fights get me the title shot, yes. I just beat number three. I’m not looking back. I’m looking forward. I’m looking at the champion, So if Dana (White) and Hunter (Campbell) say he’s between you and a champion, then that’s something we can talk about. But if you saying would you fight Khamzat and welcome him in the division, I’m like, does that give me to the title? That’s the question I’d have for you.”

Jared Cannonier backed to bring stern challenge to Khamzat Chimaev

However, according to Welch – who prominently trains incoming UFC 292 headliner and bantamweight contender, Sean O’Malley, Cannonier would likely *f*ck” Chimaev up if they ever shared the Octagon.

“Dude, him (Jared Cannonier) breaking the record, that much output from a big guy like that is f*cking next level,” Welch said on the TimboSugarShow podcast. “That much output, five rounds. I mean, who does he go against next? Someone was asking about Khamzat (Chimaev).

“He wants whatever’s gonna give him the title,” Welch explained. “But that would be f*cking sick. I think, [over] five rounds, Jared f*cks him up.” (Transcribed by MMA News)

Charles Oliveira entertains fight with Conor McGregor next maybe we do it at 170 pounds UFC

As per his head coach, Diego Lima, former undisputed lightweight champion, Charles Oliveira would most definitely welcome the possibility of fighting ex-UFC champion, Conor McGregor next – weighing up a move to the welterweight limit for a clash.

Charles Oliveira, who retained his status as the number one ranked lightweight under the banner of the UFC earlier this month, appeared to earn himself a title rematch with foe, Islam Makhachev – dropping and stopping the siege of Beneil Dariush with a blistering opening round TKO win.

As for McGregor, the former undisputed featherweight and lightweight champion, has been sidelined from competition since he suffered a fractured left tibia and fibula against Dustin Poirier in July 2021 in the pair’s trilogy rubber match.

Charles Oliveira entertains grudge match against UFC star, Conor McGregor

Previously noting his interest in a fight with McGregor whilst he held the lightweight title, Oliviera, according to his head coach and Chute Boxe trainer, Lima, would possibly entertain a fight with McGregor – especially if he was guaranteed a lightweight title fight afterwards.

“Would we do another fight before [a fight with Islam Makhachev]? I don’t know,” Diego Lima told MMA Fighting. “(Dustin) Poirier gave up a shot at the belt, fought (Conor) McGregor and then he came back for the belt. Why am i saying this? It looks like McGregor isn’t excited about fighting (Michael) Chandler. And why did he say that? Maybe he liked Charles’ fight and is excited about that? Who knows?”

“Maybe we do a fight at 170 with the [lightweight] title shot guaranteed for next year in Brazi;?” Lima continued. “We know it’s a Fight Night this year [in Sao Paulo in November], but it might be a numbered card early next year in Brazil. Charles Oliveira deserves a belt in Brazil. It’s Charles’ dream to fight in Brazil. And I think he deserves that.”

Sean O'Malley suggests UFC is segregated would they sell pay per views

Ahead of his return to the Octagon at UFC 292 in August, bantamweight contender and incoming title challenger, Sean O’Malley has questioned if the promotion were to segregate its male and female competitors – could the latter sufficiently sell enough pay-per-views, comparing a potential split to the NBA and WNBA.

O’Malley, the current number two ranked bantamweight contender under the banner of the organization, is slated to return to the Octagon on August 19. at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts, taking on defending bantamweight champion, Aljamain Sterling in his first title charge under the promotion’s banner.

Briefly holding the number one rank in the division, O’Malley, a product of Dana White’s Contender Series, managed to defeat former undisputed bantamweight champion, Petr Yan back in October of last year in Abu Dhabi, UAE – landing a decision win over the Russian striker.

Undefeated since his sole career loss to Marlon Vera – who takes on Henry Cejudo on the same August card, O’Malley has enjoyed a five-fight undefeated run en route to his first title siege against Sterling later this summer.

Sean O’Malley suggests segregation of male and female fighters

Weighing up a potential segregation of male and female fighters under the banner of the UFC, O’Malley questioned if the proposition could even be successful.

“What if there was a ‘WUFC’?” Sean O’Malley said on his YouTube channel. “What if they had their own program? Would it last? Would they be able to see pay-per-views, would it sell out arenas? It’s still the UFC, it’s still Dana, it’s still the UFC pushing these fights and promoting them – would it last?”

“We’re not saying they’re not good,” Sean O’Malley explained. “We’re talking from a pure entertainment point of view. Look at the WNBA, look at the NBA. There is a few girls fights that are very entertaining. There is a few. I think you should buy every f*cking pay-per-view the girls fight on if you support them that much. WNBA – WUFC, I’d like it. I think it’d be interesting. We’re not talking skill, they’re very, very skilled. I’m talking from a pure entertainment perspective. Like, ‘I can’t f*cking wait for this fight.’” (Transcribed by MMA Mania)

Charles Oliveira backed to KO Islam Makhachev in UFC title rematch

As likely expected, Charles Oliveira’s head coach, Diego Lima has predicted a victory for his student against the incumbent lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev ahead of a potential rematch for UFC gold later this year, however, the coach remains supremely confident of a knockout stoppage.

Oliveira, a former undisputed lightweight champion and the current number one ranked contender, most recently returned to the winner’s enclosure earlier this month at UFC 289, defeating the streaking Beneil Dariush with a stunning opening round ground strikes TKO success.

As for Makhachev, the Russian headlined UFC 284 back in February in Perth, Australia – defeating featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski in a very close, unanimous decision success ‘Down Under’.

Sharing the Octagon back in October at UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi, UAE – Charles Oliveira saw his 12-fight winning run halted by Makhachev, who clinched the vacant lightweight crown, submitting the Brazilian with a stunning second arm-triangle submission win.

However, off the back of his ground strikes TKO win over Dariush earlier this month, Oliveira was backed to take on Makhachev in a title rematch by UFC leader, Dana White, who claimed he was excited to see a future re-run between the duo.

Charles Oliveira tipped to secure lightweight title with KO win over Islam Makhachev

And despite Makhachev claiming he wants a fresh opponent other than Oliveira in a potential return at UFC 294 in October, the latter’s coach, Lima expects the two to fight again – backing his student to land a win.

“It’s a knockout,” Diego Lima said of Charles Oliveira’s chances against Islam Makhachev during an interview with MMA Fighting. “It’s funny that people say, ‘But Charles (Oliveira) has the most submissions [in UFC history],’ but the fight starts on the feet and we have a lot planned for the striking – and it continues when we go to the ground.”

“(Michael) Chandler went down and Charles got the TKO,” Lima explained. “Charles could have gone for the mount and a submission. Charles is very strong. He’s attacking so well. That’s why I really believe in a knockout – but when they go down, then we have a submission.” (Transcribed by MMA News)
