UFC lightweight staple, Bobby Green is set for a quickfire Octagon return on April 22. – booking a 155lbs clash against Jared Gordon at a UFC Fight Night event. At the time of publication, an official location, or venue has yet to be determined by the organization.

Featuring most recently in his Octagon return at UFC Vegas 66 last December, Green suffered a second round rallying KO loss against division heavy-hitter, Drew Dober. The defeat came as the San Bernardino native’s second consecutively following a February main event loss to current undisputed lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev.

Bobby Green has competed under the Zuffa LLC umbrella since 2013

For Queens native, Gordon, the lightweight contender also featured in December of last year – in the co-main event of UFC 282 against Liverpool challenger, Paddy Pimblett. Battling over three rounds with the polarizing grappler, Gordon suffered a unanimous decision loss in a much-criticized and contentious result. News of Bobby Green’s return against Jared Gordon was first reported by MMA Junkie reporters, Nolan King, and Farah Hannoun

“Jared Gordon (19-6) vs. Bobby Green (29-14-1) is set for the #UFC event on April 22, multiple sources tell @Farah_Hannoun and me. Location TBD. Story headed to @MMAJunkie.”

Without a victory since February of last year, veteran fan-favorite, Green landed a second consecutive victory before his loss to Makhachev, in the form of a one-sided judging win over Nasrat Haqparast.

Prior to that triumph, the Californian stopped Al Iaquinta with a series of first round strikes at UFC 268 in November 2021. The stoppage earned Green a Performance of the Night post-fight bonus

Gordon, 34, had entered his lightweight fight with Pimblett off the back of a unanimous decision win of his own over Leonardo Santos.

Following a loss to former lightweight champion, Charles Oliveira in the former titleholder’s native, Brazil – Gordon embarked on a three-fight winning streak against Chris Fishgold, Danny Chavez, and Joe Solecki.

Charles Oliveira Conor McGregor UFC

Former undisputed UFC lightweight champion, Charles Oliveira has echoed calls for an Octagon return as soon as April, admitting he may have missed out on a fight with former two-weight titleholder, Conor McGregor, as speculation mounts regarding a title-eliminator with Beneil Dariush.

Oliveira, the current #1 ranked lightweight contender, headlined UFC 280 back in October of last year in Abu Dhabi, UAE against Islam Makhachev, seeing his division-best 12-fight winning run halted in a second round arm-triangle submission loss.

The Sao Paulo native had initially clinched the vacant lightweight title back in 2021 against Michael Chandler, stopping the Missouri native with strikes before submitting Dustin Poirier in December of that year.

Last year, before his vacant title loss to Makhachev, the Chute Boxe trainee stopped Justin Gaethje in a non-title fight at UFC 274 – submitting the Arizona native on enemy territory with a first round rear-naked choke.

Charles Oliveira reveals plan for opening quarter UFC comeback

Yet to return since his submission loss to Dagestan phenom, Makhachev, Oliveira has admitted he would like to secure a return to active competition by April of this year, before claiming a fight with Dublin star, McGregor is now far from likely, next at least.

“April or May – I think that’s the time that I need,” Charles Oliveira told The Mac Life through an interpreter ahead of UFC 283.

Conor McGregor is not fighting, so I think we need to focus on the top of the division,” Charles Oliveira said. “After seeing the cries with the belts got me some energy to be back. So my focus is to fight in April, and then fight for a title at the end of the year.”

Linked with a title-eliminator against surging Iran-born contender, Dariush next, Oliveira admitted he was open to fighting the Kings MMA staple next, but would let the UFC approach him with a name first.

Everybody is talking about (Beneil) Dariush, but I think I need to think with my mind, not really my heart,” Charles Oliveira explained. “If the UFC thinks he’s the name, it’s fine. But let’s see what I decide.

Jon Jones Daniel Cormier UFC 285

Ahead of his first Octagon walk in over three years in March at UFC 285, former two-time light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones has extended an olive branch to arch-rival, former duel-weight champion, Daniel Cormier, in a bit to squash their infamous rivalry spanning the last decade.

Jones, a former two-time undisputed light heavyweight champion under the banner of the UFC, is set to headline UFC 285 on March 4. in his first Octagon walk since 2020, drawing former interim heavyweight champion, Ciryl Gane in a vacant title fight in the former’s heavyweight division debut.

The outing will come as Jones’ first since UFC 247 back in February 2020, where he headlined the Houston, Texas event against Dominick Reyes, securing a title defense in close, and narrow fashion, however.

Sharing a distinct rivalry with former light heavyweight and heavyweight champion, Cormier, spanning two fights, Jones managed to first defeat the American Kickboxing Staple in a 2015 decision victory, before rematching the latter back in 2017.

Initially securing a title unification win courtesy of a stunning high-kick KO win, Jones’ victory over Cormier was eventually overturned to an official ‘No Contest’ after the latter tested positive for turinabol metabolites, and was subsequently stripped of the undisputed light heavyweight crown.

Jon Jones praises the post-UFC career of Daniel Cormier

Competing just four times in the six-years since, Jones has offered to bury the hatchet with Cormier ahead of March 4. – praising his transition to the commentary booth since his 2020 retirement from mixed martial arts competition.

I’m not competing against Daniel Cormier,” Jon Jones told Sports Illustrated. “I’ve already beat him twice (sic). I’m really happy for Daniel Cormier. I love what he’s done in his life with his wrestling and broadcasting.

I think it’s awesome when a fighter can retire and use his voice and intelligence to do something that he loves, so I’ve got nothing but respect for Daniel Cormier,” Jon Jones explained.

Remaining supremely confident ahead of his showdown with Gane in two months’ time, Jones claimed that God Himself has created him as an “undefeated fighter”, maintaining he doubts its actually possible and opponent can offer him anything beyond a close fight, without actually defeating him.

UFC bantamweight contender, Sean O’Malley has called for his shot at bantamweight gold – albeit interim spoils, in the form of a title fight against the returning former two-weight champion, Henry Cejudo at UFC 285 on March 4.

Montana native, O’Malley currently boasts the #1 rank in the official UFC bantamweight pile, earning the division top-spot with a close split decision win over former undisputed titleholder, Petr Yan at UFC 280 last October in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Yet to be booked in the time since, O’Malley, a product of Dana White’s Contender Series, claimed in the months following his ‘Fight Island’ judging win over Dudinka striker, Yan, how he had been “guaranteed” a title fight in his next Octagon outing, however.

Sean O’Malley offers to face Henry Cejudo for interim spoils at UFC 285

With undisputed champion, Aljamain Sterling recently revealing how a bicep injury may prevent him from making a planned fight with Olympic gold medalist, Cejudo as soon as March 4. – O’Malley has offered to fight for an interim division championship against the latter on the same date.

Perfect: Me vs. Henry (Cejudo) for the interim belt (at UFC 285),” Sean O’Malley said on his YouTube channel. “Tell me that ain’t fire?

I texted Hunter (Campbell), texted Sean Shelby, I said, ‘Will you at least give me an idea? Will you at least say yes or no? Is Henry versus Aljo (Aljamain Sterling) happening?’” Sean O’Malley said. “They [the UFC] just don’t know… They’re kind of just trying to wait to see if (Sterling) can (make UFC 285) or what. I’m frustrated, but I’m OK, because I’m training.”

In tandem with his offer to fight Los Angeles wrestling ace, Cejudo for an interim title – O’Malley offered to rematch Marlon Vera, before the Ecuadorian was booked to fight fellow contender, Cory Sandhagen next month.

O’Malley’s sole professional loss came in the form of a first round ground strikes TKO loss to Vera back in August 2020 in the co-main event of UFC 252.

Francis Ngannou Joe Rogan Mad UFC

Veteran UFC color commentator, Joe Rogan has expressed his disappointment to see heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou depart the promotion – particularly before an expected fight with former light heavyweight kingpin, Jon Jones.

Ngannou, the promotion’s undisputed heavyweight champion up until last weekend, was stripped of his undisputed title and handed his official release from the promotion amid a longstanding contract dispute with the Dana White-led outfit.

Free to field offers from other promotions, the UFC also elected to waive their exclusive matching rights period with Ngannou – leaving the Cameroonian free to discuss terms and deals with other organizations.

Joe Rogan shares his thoughts on Francis Ngannou’s UFC departure

As a result, the promotion have since booked a vacant title fight between the aforenoted, Jones and former interim heavyweight champion, Ciryl Gane for UFC 285 on March 4. – leading to the aforenoted, Rogan expressing his disappointment that the UFC failed to ever land on a fight between Ngannou and Jones.

I’m so bummed out by this whole thing,” Joe Rogan said on The Joe Rogan Experience during an interview with UFC welterweight, Belal Muhammad. “I don’t like when a champion leaves [the UFC]. I do not like the best guy in the world not being the champion. If Francis (Ngannou) wanted to resign, ‘Okay, congratulations, sir, you had a great career.’ Is suspect some of it involved wanting to do boxing as well.

That’s why I’m mad,” Joe Rogan explained. “I’m mad because I feel like we were deprived of one of the great fights in MMA, one of the most compelling fights in MMA. Does it mean I’m not interested in Ciryl Gane vs. Jon Jones? I’m very interested in that fight.

Ending his UFC tenure with a successful unification title win against the above-mentioned French technician, Gane, Ngannou headlined UFC 270 in January of last year, before undergoing a surgical procedure to address a knee injury suffered before the pay-per-view main event.

Jones, who currently boasts a 26-1(1) professional record, has suffered a sole professional loss in the form of a disqualification blemish against Matt Hamill back in 2009, after he landed a series of downward, illegal elbows.

In the time since, Jones has enjoyed a gold laden undefeated run in the UFC, with his only other blemish coming in the form of an official ‘No Contest’ against former two-weight champion, Daniel Cormier, having originally finished the color commentaotr with a high kick, before testing positive for the banned substance, turinabol.

Slated to make his heavyweight division debut at UFC 285 on March 4. in a vacant division title fight against former interim titleholder, Gane, Jones insists God himself has chosen the Rochester native to be an “undefeated fighter”.

“Absolutely not,” Jon Jones told Sports Illustrated during a recent interview. “I really believe in my whole heart that i was chosen by God Himself to be an undefeated fighter. I really believe that with my whole spirit and my whole being. So not only do you have to beat me, but you have to beat the God I serve.”

“I don’t believe that I was designed to lose,” Jon Jones continued. “I may have close fights, but I truly don’t believe it’s possible for me to lose.”

Sidelined since February 2020, Jones’ most recent Octagon appearance came in the form of a light heavyweight title defense against Dominick Reyes – where he narrowly left Houston, Texas with championship gold in tow following a close, unanimous decision victory.
