Khabib Nurmagomedov

Former undisputed UFC lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov has estimated that his promotion, Eagle FC has what it takes to become the leading professional mixed martial arts organization on a worldwide scale, within this decade.

Khabib, who ended his professional mixed martial arts career back in October 2020, successfully unified the lightweight titles with a second round triangle win over former interim gold holder, Justin Gaethje in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

In the time since his victory over the Arizona native, Khabib has taken on a prominent role as a coach at American Kickboxing Academy alongside head coach, Javier Mendez, and has also headed up Eagle FC – with its home base now located in Florida.

Since taking major operations to the ‘Sunshine State’ – Eagle FC has fielded three events in Miami – in January, March, and May of this year.

Initially, the promotion held a main event matchup between the veteran, Sergei Karitonov, as well as striking ace, Tyrone Spong – before hosting headliners between UFC alums, Diego Sanchez, and Kevin Lee – as well as Junior dos Santos, and Yorgan de Castro.

Khabib Nurmagomedov touts Eagle FC’s chances of becoming an industry leader

Sharing his thoughts on when Eagle FC could potentially topple industry juggernauts, UFC, and Bellator – Khabib claimed that within the period of seven years, the organization could find itself as a leader amongst their peers.

“I think we need five, seven years,” Khabib Nurmagomedov said on the official Eagle FC YouTube channel. “Because for this business, you have to create content. To create content, you need years and years. We’re just beginning. We’re just beginning and we need, I think, at least five to seven years to become on top.”

Amongst his continued ventures into the business side of mixed martial arts, Khabib Nurmagomedov has also recently welcomed links to a season of The Ultimate Fighter in a coaching role opposite former interim UFC lightweight champion, Tony Ferguson – following a slew of failed fights between the two during their respective tenures with the promotion.

Aljamain Sterling features for the second time this year under the UFC banner

Attempting to land his second successful defense of the bantamweight title, Uniondale native, Aljamain Sterling co-headlined UFC 273 back in April, unifying and defending the bantamweight titles with a split decision win over Dudinka rival, Petr Yan.

As for Dillashaw, the veteran Angels Camp technician headlined UFC Vegas 32 back in July of last year against common-foe, Cory Sandhagen – handing the Colorado native a close, split decision loss in his return to the Octagon for the first time since completing a two-year retroactive USADA suspension. MMA Junkie reporters, Nolan King, and Mike Bohn were first to report Sterling’s targeted title defense against Dillashaw.

Linked with a title showdown against Dillashaw following his Jacksonville, Florida win over Yan back in April, Aljamain Sterling, a staple of Serra-Longo Fight Team – was also briefly linked with a matchup against former featherweight champion, Jose Aldo, however, the Brazilian is expected to fight Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 278 the month prior.

In the midst of a seven-fight winning run, Sterling, who managed to win the title with a disqualification win against Yan back in March of last year, also holds wins over the above mentioned, Sandhagen, Pedro Munhoz, Jimmie Rivera, Cody Stamann, and Brett Johns during that streak.

Undefeated in his last five bantamweight walks under the UFC banner, Dillashaw, who first achieved undisputed gold with an upset knockout win against Renan Barao back in 2014.

In his second title coronation back in November 2017, Dillashaw rallied to stop former teammate, Cody Garbrandt with a second round knockout at Madison Square Garden, before defending the title against the Ohio native with a first round knockout win in the pair’s immediate championship rematch.

Zabit, who boasts an 18-1 professional record at the time of his retirement from the sport, most recently featured in the main event of UFC Fight Night Moscow back in November 2019, earning a unanimous decision win over Calvin Kattar over the course of three rounds. The headliner earned both Zabit and Kattar Fight of the Night honors.

Zabit Magomedsharipov was widely tipped to challenge for UFC gold in the future

Speculation has been rife regarding Zabit’s continued fighting future amid a prolonged health issue, as well as his intentions to become a practising doctor – which he hinted at back in April. And now, per an initial report from MMA Fighting reporter, Guilherme Cruz, Zabit has informed the UFC of his intention to hang up his gloves from professional mixed martial arts with immediate effect.

Zabit Magomedsharipov was officially removed from the UFC featherweight rankings back in April of last year due to inactivity, with his sole outing since his win over Kattar – a high-stakes headliner against Yair Rodriguez cancelled in August of the year prior due to an ankle injury suffered by the Mexican.

A former ACB featherweight champion, Zabit Magomedsharipov, who plys his trade under the tutelage of head coach, Mark Henry – enjoyed a six-fight, promotional-perfect stint since his September 2017 Octagon debut.

Prior to his win against Kattar, Zabit had defeated Jeremy Stephens, adding the veteran Des Moines native to other wins over Brandon Davis, Kyle Bockniak, Sheymon Moraes, and Mike Santiago.

A renowned finisher and dynamic striker and grappler, Zabit managed to land an impressive seven career submission wins, to go with a further six separate career knockout wins. Zabit is also a Russian, European, and World Cup victor in Sanda.

Conor McGregor

Former two-weight UFC champion, Conor McGregor has made a donation of €10,000 to Wexford twins, Dylan and Adam Duffy – as the Ballycanew teenagers prepare to travel to Abu Dhabi, UAE for the IMMAF (International Mixed Martial Arts Federation) Youth World Championships.

McGregor, a former two-weight UFC champion, managed to strike both undisputed lightweight and featherweight gold during his Octagon tenure, however, has yet to return to active competition since July of last year.

Headlining UFC 264 against former interim lightweight champion, Dustin Poirier in the pair’s trilogy rubber match at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, McGregor suffered a fractured left tibia in the closing stages of the opening round, resulting in a doctor’s stoppage TKO defeat to the Lafayette native.

Conor McGregor is expected to return to the Octagon by the turn of 2023

Expected to return to the Octagon at the beginning of next year, McGregor recently pledged and donated a sum of €10,000 to both Dyan and Adam Duffy – with the Wexford-born teenagers now set to compete at the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation Youth World Championships this year.

“I was training when I found out and my coach told me about it so calmly,” Adam Duffy told The Independent. “I was going insane. I thought he was joking until he showed me the comments. I feel like I have to win now because he (Conor McGregor) donated all that money.”

“We might not have been able to go (to Abu Dhabi) without his (Conor McGregor’s) help,” Adam’s twin brother, Dylan Duffy said. “There are so many gyms out there and he donated to us, which is insane.” (Transcribed by Talksport)

Over the course of the last year, McGregor also issued a notable donation in the region of $500,000 to the Girls & Boys Club of Acadiana in Lafayette, Louisiana – following a charitable donation dispute with the aforenoted, Poirier following the pair’s ‘Fight Island’ rematch.

Charles Oliveira

Former undisputed UFC lightweight champion, Charles Oliveira has once again campaigned for a lucrative showdown with former two-weight gold holder, Conor McGregor – claiming that a battle with the Dubliner would cement his legacy within the sport further.

Oliveira, a former undisputed lightweight champion, headlined UFC 274 last month against former interim champion, Justin Gaethje – successfully stopping the Arizona-born challenger in enemy territory with a first round rear-naked choke win.

However, with Oliveira’s victory, the lightweight title became officially vacant once more, after the Sao Paulo grappler tipped the lightweight scales on the Friday before the headlining slot.

Since his victory, Oliveira has been continually linked with a slew of potential opponents for a vacant lightweight title fight – from the likes of Islam Makhachev, Beneil Dariush, Michael Chandler. And himself has called out former two-weight titleholder, McGregor next.

Even prior to his May matchup with Gaethje, Oliveira welcomed the opportunity to defend his lightweight throne. And admitted this week that a fight with the 33-year-old would further improve his legacy in the sport, as well as land him a lucrative payday.

Charles Oliveira insists he would have already fought Conor McGregor if it were up to him

“It would be a very good fight for me,” Charles Oliveira said of a fight with Conor McGregor during a recent interview with ESPN Brazil. “It would put a lot of money in my pocket, and, that’s the most important thing. It would also be really good for my legacy, for me to have in my story. Regardless, if he’s (Conor McGregor) coming from defeat or not, he’s a guy who’s made history, so I think it would be great, but it’s not just up to me. If it were up to me, this fight would already be happening.”

“I have a daughter to raise,” Charles Oliveira continued. “Everyone wants to fight Conor, it’s not just me who wants to. Everyone knows that fighting Conor is very profitable. I’m talking about money. And Conor knows that – that everyone wants to fight him.”

In the midst of a two-fight losing run, McGregor, most recently headlined UFC 264 back in July of last year, suffering a fractured left tibia en route to a first round doctor’s stoppage TKO defeat against common-foe, Dustin Poirier.

Chael Sonnen Questions Valentina Shevchenko, Her Character: ‘You’re Probably Very Insincere’

Valentina ShevchenkoFormer UFC middleweight and light heavyweight championship title challenger, Chael Sonnen has questioned the character and persona on show from reigning flyweight best, Valentina Shevchenko – speculating that the dominant division queen is likely “very insincere”. Valentina Shevchenko

Former UFC middleweight and light heavyweight championship title challenger, Chael Sonnen has questioned the character and persona on show from reigning flyweight best, Valentina Shevchenko – speculating that the dominant division queen is likely “very insincere”.

Sonnen, a former title challenger at both the middleweight and light heavyweight limit within the organization, called time on his professional mixed martial arts career following a June 2020 loss to Lyoto Machida under the Bellator banner.

In the time since, the outspoken fan-favorite has successfully turned his hand to promotion, podcasting, as well as analyst work for the UFC.

For Shevchenko, the Kyrgyzstan native co-headlined UFC 275 last weekend in Singapore against Brazilian contender, Taila Santos – narrowly leaving the Singapore Indoor Arena with her title in tow following a close, split decision (48-47, 47-48, 49-46) success.

Chael Sonnen questions the persona of Valentina Shevchenko following UFC 275

Following her seventh consecutive successful defense of the flyweight throne, Shevchenko was the subject of some scrutiny from the aforenoted, Sonnen – who questioned her persona throughout her entire UFC run.

“She (Valentina Shevchenko) just hasn’t a picked a side,” Chael Sonnen said on his official YouTube channel. “Anybody who has been in this organization (the UFC) as long as she has been in it and has never done anything to upset the audience is probably being pretty insincere. If you are caught on camera for seven straight years in some of your most glorious and some of most vulnerable moments and you never scuff your knee on the side of offending somebody, of being unsportsmanlike, or challenged of doing anything that will put you in a negative category.”

“You are probably a very insincere person,” Chael Sonnen said of Valentina Shevchenko. “You’re probably acting and playing a character.”

Off the back of her narrow victory against Santos, Shevchenko, who revealed post-fight that she had suffered a foot injury ahead of the UFC 275 co-headliner, has been linked with both an immediate title rematch against the Brazilian – as well as a bantamweight division move for a rematch with either Julianna Pena or a rubber match with Amanda Nunes.
