Nick Newell says he never wants to leave Bellator and plans to retire with the promotion.

The 35-year-old previously had dreams of reaching the UFC but fell short in his bid to join MMA’s premier organization back in 2018. Newell fell to a unanimous decision defeats against Alex Munoz when he appeared on Dana White’s Contender Series.

Today, Newell couldn’t be happier with how things turned out and says he can never see himself fighting for anyone but Bellator after the brilliant treatment he’s received as one of their fighters. Newell and other fighters received their pay despite not competing last year as COVID-19 swept the globe.

“I’ve made it known since my Bellator debut, I had such a fantastic time working with Bellator and working for them, that my fight career will end in Bellator,” Newell told LowKickMMA. So, this is, this is it for me. I’m Bellator for life, there’s nowhere else I want to go. This is where I want to be and they took care of me and we needed a minivan. So, the fight purse went to the minivan fund, and we ended up getting one.”

Unfortunately, that means Newell will never get the chance to avenge his most famous loss which came against the former UFC interim lightweight champion, Justin Gaethje.

“I never had had anything personal against him,” Newell said. “He’s been nothing but great before and after. You know, things happen in this war. Obviously, if you ask me to fight him again, I would do it. I wasn’t scared the first time. Why would I be scared now? He’s had a great career. He’s a great fighter, but I’m in Bellator and I have my goals and in Bellator. So that’s where my vision lies right now.

Newell’s Bellator career continues tonight at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. He’ll square off against Bobby King in a lightweight bout.

Nick Newell has his next Bellator fight set.

ESPN.com first reported the news that he will fight at Bellator 232 against Manny Muro. The fight will be contested at a 160-pound catchweight and the event will take place on Oct. 26 at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut. The card is set to be headlined by Rory MacDonald vs. Douglas Lima 2, which serves as the welterweight grand prix final.

Newell is coming off of a submission win over Corey Browning in his promotional debut. It was an impressive performance that landed him a multi-fight deal with Bellator. The 33-year-old is 16-2 as a pro with his only two losses coming to Justin Gaethje and Alex Munoz on the Contender Series.

The Connecicut-native has notable wins over the likes of Sabah Fadai, Sonny Luque, and Antonio Castillo Jr. He will also be fighting at home once again.

Manny Muro, meanwhile, is 10-6 as a pro and coming off of a submission win over Ken Coulter at Rage of the Cage in June. The win snapped his three-fight losing streak where he submitted once and TKO’d twice. Out of his six losses, he has been finished four times including a submission loss to Nate Andrews in CES.

“The Dragon” fought in Bellator at Bellator 184 in October of 2017 where he beat Emmanuel Rivera by decision.

Nick Newell is officially part of Bellator MMA.

Newell made his debut for the promotion at Bellator 225 last month on a one-fight deal. He went on to submit Corey Browning in the first round of their lightweight contest.

The one-handed fighter seems to have impressed Bellator president Scott Coker and company as he has now inked a multi-fight deal with the promotion. According to reports, there are four fights on his new deal.

It is a big break for Newell who missed his chance at fighting for the UFC.

After finally getting UFC president Dana White to agree to let him fight, Newell was given an opportunity during the Contenders Series last year. However, he was outpointed by Alex Munoz.

But with a new Bellator deal, the future looks bright for “Notorious” who is awaiting his next opponent. The 33-year-old is 16-2 with his only other notable loss coming to current UFC lightweight contender Justin Gaethje.

What do you think of Bellator signing Newell? Do you he could go on to win the lightweight title?
