Robbie Lawler lands stunning KO win over Niko Price 38 seconds retirement fight at UFC 290

Former undisputed UFC welterweight champion, Robbie Lawler has bowed out of combat sports in spectacular fashion — landing a stunning first round knockout win over Niko Price in his career swansong fight in the featured preliminary bout of UFC 290.

San Diego, native, Lawler, who was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame as part of the Fight Wing earlier this week alongside Rory MacDonald for their UFC 189 title rematch back in 2015, entered tonight’s fight with Price with the intention of retiring from mixed martial arts regardless of result.

And returning to the winner’s enclosure for the first time since his 2021 rematch win over Nick Diaz, former welterweight kingpin, Lawler stung Price in the clinch during an early exchange, before sending the former to the canvas with a short shot in close — racking up a fairytale end to his stored and tenured professional mixed martial arts career.

Landing Octagon victory number three consecutively — and most likely his biggest name to date, Philip Rowe stops Niko Price in with a barrage of strikes at the fence, to open the UFC Orlando main card to a raucous reception in the ‘Sunshine State’.

Rowe, a product of Dana White‘s Contender Series — entered tonight’s matchup with Price off the back of an eye-catching pair of consecutive victories against both Orion Cosce, and Jason Witt — stopping the duo with second round strikes to boot.

And continuing in that rich vein of form tonight in Orlando, Rowe, a native of Brooklyn, reached double-figure wins in his professional mixed martial arts career, forcing referee, Marc Goddard’s hand as he swarmed on Price in the second frame for a standing TKO finish.

Alex Oliveira had some hilarious advice for Niko Price ahead of their fight at UFC Vegas 38.

Price recently announced on social media that he expected the birth of his sixth child in the coming months. His Brazilian opponent who is the father of 11 kids was quick to give out some parenting tips during an interview with MMA Fighting ahead of UFC Vegas 38.

“I’d tell him, ’If you can get a vasectomy already, do it, brother,’” Oliveira said. “I was sexist. ‘Will it continue the same way after surgery?’ And I got 11. If I had done surgery before, I would have gotten only four or five [kids].

“That’s my advise for him, man. Know the truth. Get the surgery done already, because it seems that condoms can’t stop us.”

With so many extra mouths to feed Oliveira is always gunning for a post-fight bonus. It seems his chances of snagging an extra $50,000 will greatly increase with the always-exciting Price standing across the Octagon from him.

“He’s very versatile, a tough guy that can take a beating,” Oliveira said of Price. “He’s the type of guy that you have to stay alert at all times and in shape, and put pressure at all times. My camp was very medieval. You can expect anything from him so I had to train everything for him. I’m ready for a war.”

Both men enter this fight in a run of poor form. Oliveira is very aware of the consequences of suffering a third-straight UFC defeat.

“I’m on this journey for a long time,” Oliveira said. “I know we can’t disappoint. I’m going there to give them what they want and have my hands raised. That’s what I need at the moment. I always put pressure over myself, but highs and lows do exist.

“I’ve studied him completely, I know he has won by knockout off his back, with upkicks and unexpected strikes. I’m well-trained, I’m focused. He’s the type of fighter that will try to finish me, take me down and keep me there and win round after round, but the only way you’ll win round after round is if I stand still. I’m hungry, man. I’m here for a fight.”

Michel Pereira Niko Price

A big welterweight matchup between Michel Pereira and Niko Price has been added to the already stacked UFC 264 pay-per-view scheduled to take place this summer, as first reported by AG Fight.

Pereira and Price are widely considered to be two of the most dynamic strikers in the UFC. Pereira has won his last two fights over Khaos Williams and Zelim Imadaev, while Price is looking to get back on the winning track after dropping his last two fights and serving an NSAC suspension after testing positive for marijuana.

Both welterweights are on the outside looking in when it comes to the UFC welterweight rankings. Pereira and Price have the opportunity to claim a spot in the rankings with a win on a pay-per-view that has the potential to smash records.

UFC 264 is headlined by the highly-anticipated trilogy between lightweights Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier, in a re-match of their last fight back at UFC 257 in January. The winner of the trilogy bout is widely expected to be the next in line to challenge lightweight champion Charles Oliveira for the belt.

After his last win over Williams, Pereira called out Anthony Pettis, but Pettis parted ways with the promotion shortly thereafter and went on to sign a multi-fight deal with Professional Fighters League.

Both fighters are well-known for flashy tactics inside the octagon. Price tends to press the action in his fight and Pereira is similar in that way.

Other fights on the upcoming UFC 264 card include the co-main event featuring top welterweight contenders Gilbert Burns and Stephen Thompson, along with a confirmed middleweight fight between Hu Yaozong and Alen Amedovski.

Price and Pereira are set to square off in a potential dark horse candidate for Fight of the Night at UFC 264. Fans can expect fireworks from these two in the octagon and a big jump in notoriety for the winner.
