Norma Dumont has suggest an interim title fight with Holly Holm.

Dumont was originally supposed to face Holm in a women’s featherweight headliner at UFC Vegas 40 last night. However, Holm ended up pulling out with Aspen Ladd stepping in on short notice.

Unfortunately for nearly everyone, it turned out to be one of the most dull main events in recent history with little action over the course of the five rounds.

However, Dumont did more than enough to get the unanimous decision verdict as she made it three wins in a row.

She still wants Holm next and given that it might be some time before Amanda Nunes returns to 145 pounds, Dumont believes a potential fight should be for the interim title.

“I don’t want the division to get stagnant and for us not to have fights,” Dumont said at the UFC Vegas 40 post-fight press conference (via MMA Fighting). “I would be totally willing to have that fight [with Holm]. I understand Amanda’s going to do a title defense and then later on a possible fight with Valentina [Shevchenko] so we’d only be able to face each other by mid-year next year.

“So I definitely do not want to be not fighting for that long. I think a fight even for an interim belt with Holly could bring not just a fight for its own but to bring some attention to the division and to have other athletes come into the division with this particular winner of this fight to go on and fight Amanda.”

Of course, given the lack of contenders — or simply fighters — in the division, there really is no need for an interim title. However, Dumont wants to stay active given the uncertainty in the division.

“That’s the problem,” Dumont explained. “It’s a division that we basically don’t know who we’re fighting. I’m going to leave it to the hands of the UFC as I’ve always done.

“I’ve never backed down from a fight and I’m going to continue to prepare at the gym and I hope it is a big name and I hope it’s going to be a main event as well cause I thought this was pretty cool.”

Norma Dumont has lodged her third straight Octagon victory and may have just inserted herself into featherweight title contention, scoring a rather comfortable, straightforward unanimous decision win over the #3 ranked bantamweight, short notice replacement, Aspen Ladd in the main event of UFC Vegas 40.

A real promising opening round for the Belo Horizonte native, Dumont, who has managed to find home with a flurry of jabs as well as following straight right hands, resulting in some redness on the face of Ladd. 10-9 for the Brazilian.

Some more sharp striking in the second round from Dumont who looks to be a lot quicker on the feet than Ladd who remains patient. however, has lost the last two rounds 10-9 now. Coach Jim West urging Ladd to get to work.

West audibly disappointed in his student Ladd, informing her that she is likely three rounds down heading into the fourth frame. Dumont’s striking showing on the face of the Folsom native now.

One Way Traffic For Norma Dumont Approaching The Final Round

Ladd again urged to pick up the pace in the fifth and final round, with West explaining, with a fair share of profanity, that the #3 ranked bantamweight is in need of a finish in the last frame.

Ladd dominant in the clinch at the fence in the fifth, amassing considerable control time, however, it’s too little too late for the divisional debutante, with Dumont taking home a unanimous decision win off the back of an early, impressive start.

The weigh-in results for UFC Vegas 40: Ladd vs. Dumont are in!

Unfortunately, there was one fight cancellation, but the rest of the card is ready to proceed, including the main event! The main card bout between Julian Marquez and Jordan Wright is off after Marquez was pulled from the card due to what was classified as “non-COVID health issues.”

The rest of the card remains intact, however, including the main event between Aspen Ladd and Norma Dumont. Ladd had issues on the scale two weeks ago when she was scheduled to compete at UFC Vegas 38 against Macy Chiasson. The issues were bad enough to lead to the cancellation of that bout, but everything was smooth sailing today.

MMA News had an opportunity to catch up to Aspen Ladd recently, and she expressed an interest in moving up to featherweight even before UFC Vegas 38. Little did she know that this hypothetical scenario would become a reality only two weeks later. And while Ladd may be of the belief that the UFC featherweight division needs Kayla Harrison, she’ll look to build her own name up. So that if Harrison does decide to sign with the UFC, a potential fight between these two competitors would be even bigger.

Norma Dumont also did not get the fight she was hoping for. The 31-year-old expected to face former bantamweight champion Holly Holm and has expressed skepticism at the legitimacy of the injury that forced Holm to withdraw from the bout. Dumont made it clear that she would still like to stand across from Holm at some point. But for the time being, all her attention is on Aspen Ladd.

Our own Doug Murray gave this fight his full attention in his preview and prediction for this bout. And tomorrow night, we will learn the final outcome!

The co-main event for the card will feature legendary Andrei Arlovski taking on Carlos Felipe. Arlovski has won three of his last four fights, most recently defeating Chase Sherman in April. The 26-year-old Felipe is experiencing a three-fight win streak, defeating Jake Collier in his most recent bout at UFC 263. Will Arlovski show that he is ready to continue battling next-generation superstars? Or will Felipe make it four consecutive wins at the expense of a former UFC champion?

UFC Vegas 40 takes place live tomorrow night, October 16, 2021, from the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada. The entire card will stream on ESPN+. The main card begins at 7 PM ET, with the prelims kicking off at 4:30.

Norma Dumont isn’t buying Holly Holm’s excuse for withdrawing from their fight.

Norma Dumont is preparing for her main event fight with Aspen Ladd on this weekend’s UFC Vegas 40 card. Ladd is filling in on late notice for Holly Holm who pulled out of the fight with an injury. Dumont was asked about Holm and her removal from the fight, to which Dumont aired some suspicions.

“I don’t really know what happened to Holly,” Dumont said on the Mundo da Luta on Combate podcast. “But the impression is that she left because she didn’t want to fight or wanted to do something else. She said it was a knee injury, but said that until December she will fight, how are you going to fight if you have a knee injury? [Fighting] is my profession. I need to fight to pay my regular bills, it’s a matter of survival. I need the money; I need to work. I got really mad about that.”

Holm has been nursing a few injuries for a while now. Prior to this injury, Holm was forced out of a scheduled bout with Julianna Peña back in May. Although Dumont was able to find a replacement in Ladd, she is still yearning for that bout with Holm and plans to ask for her again with a win.

“Winning Aspen, I’m going to ask for the fight against Holly,” Dumont explained. “I hope she improves her knee, we’ll be back in January. I want to fight for the title with Amanda [Nunes], but I want to have the feeling of looking my path before [fighting] for the belt, and see a former champion I’ve always admired, who I watched fight since I started.”

Would you still like to see Norma Dumont take on Holly Holm if she wins against Aspen Ladd on Saturday?
