Earlier this month, UFC middleweight Sean Strickland, claimed that former heavyweight contender, Pat Barry was a “predator” pointing to his relationship with former two-time strawweight champion, Rose Namajunas – leading to a slew of questions across his social media.

Strickland, who has received criticizm for his outlandish posts across social media, claimed that both Barry, and Jim West, the head coach of UFC bantamweight, Aspen Ladd – were “predators” and “groomers” due to their relationships with their respective fighters, comparing them to disgraced movie mogul, Harvey Weinstein.

“Is Jim West and Pat Barry the Weinstine (sic) of MMA?” Sean Strickland previously tweeted. “Or is Michael Jackson a better comparison… @netflic is currently contacting @TheAspenLadd and @rosenamajunas for a TV series lol!!!!! OK, I’m done gotta spar..”

Responding to Strickland’s allegations against Barry, former UFC heavyweight, Matt Mitrione claimed that the former had no idea what he was talking about when it came to Barry’s relationship with longtime partner, Namajunas.

“I wanna talk about Sean Strickland,” Matt Mitrione said. “Sean, I don’t know who you are, and to be honest, I don’t think I’ve ever watched you fight. But I’m gonna be really honest with you, you’re talking about some sh*t you don’t know what you’re talking about. With this whole thing about Pat Barry and Rose (Namajunas), and you’re tryna call Pat a predator and blah blah blah – I was there, I was at Duke Roufus’ gym when Rose was 17 years old, I was there on her 18th birthday. I was there for the conversation that Rose had with me.”

“It was like, ‘Hey, how do you think Pat feels about this situation, I’m turning 18 tomorrow and I wanna ask him to date.’ She’s like, ‘I love who he is, I love his energy, I love how excited he is, I think he’s a great human being.’ And Rose knew from the jump, that Pat was going to be somebody who was going to be in her life forever and ever,” Matt Mitrione said. “So for you (Strickland) to run your mouth, talking about whatever kind of bullsh*t you’re talking about, calling my good buddy, Pat, a predator, when you don’t know what the f*ck you’re talking about, that really kinda bothers me a little bit.”

Sean Strickland once again labelled Pat Barry a “groomer”

Replying to Mitrione’s comments, Strickland further claimed that Barry had “groomed” Namajunas, and accused Mitrione of defending Barry as a result of his comments.

“So, Matt Mitrione, I heard you had some sh*t to say about me,” Sean Strickland posted on Twitter,” And how what I said didn’t sit well with you, well let me tell you Matt, I don’t give a f*ck what sits well with you. You’re a f*cking can. When’s the last time you won a f*cking fight? Aren’t you like 0-8 right now? You’re a f*cking loser, me and you aren’t even in the same f*cking category.”

“I’m gonna address what you said about Pat Barry waiting until she (Rose Namajunas) was 18, do you understand what f*cking grooming means?” Sean Strickland said. “And mind you, I don’t give a f*ck about Rose, I don’t give a f*ck about you, and I don’t give a f*ck about Pat. I’m just stating the facts. Rose was groomed by Pat Barry – and you defending him, you f*cking loser? Why don’t we go check what’s on your f*cking laptop you f*cking can.”

Sean Strickland has unleashed on Matt Mitrione after the heavyweight spoke up in defense of the relationship between Pat Barry and UFC strawweight Rose Namajunas.

Sean Strickland has quickly become one of the most outspoken members of the MMA community. He has been unafraid to tackle any subject, regardless of how taboo the take or subject matter.

This includes the personal relationships of his peers, namely the coach/fighter romantic relationships between Jim West and UFC women’s bantamweight Aspen Ladd and that of Namajunas and Barry.

Strickland has publicly condemned both relationships by classifying them as cases of sexual predators grooming underage girls. Ladd is rumored to have met West when she was 12, and Namajunas reportedly met Barry for the first time when she was 14. More recently, most of Strickland’s attention has been placed on the relationship between Namajunas and Barry.

That attention would increase this week after Barry touched on Strickland’s comments earlier this week in an appearance on The MMA Hour.

While Barry did not offer Strickland’s remarks much of a response, he did state that Strickland has always been friendly with him and Namajunas and also that those closest to them, including family members, understand the true story and all the pertaining facts behind their relationship.

After media outlets began to run Barry’s comments, Strickland would again take aim and fire.

“Here’s the thing guys 99 percent of what I say is usually wrong.. This is not that time.. @rosenamajunas@TheAspenLadd like my post if you need help. I’ll treat Pat Berry and Jim West like they treat minor.. Without consent, although it won’t be behind closed doors lmao!”

Strickland Blasts Matt Mitrione For Defending Barry

matt mitrione

Last week, days out from Namajunas’ UFC 274 bout against Carla Esparza, heavyweight MMA veteran Matt Mitrione addressed Strickland’s remarks on a podcast.

Mitrione has been a professional mixed martial artist since 2009. He spent seven years in the UFC, defeating names like Shawn Jordan, Gabriel Gonzaga, and even KO king Derrick Lewis. Mitrione joined Bellator MMA in 2016 and has gone winless in his last five fights.

In the clip below, Mitrione takes a strong tone in personally addressing Strickland, accusing the middleweight of not knowing what he’s talking about.

“I was there. I was at Duke Roufus’ gym when Rose was 17 years old. I was there on her 18th birthday. I was there for the conversation that Rose had with me (and) was like, ‘Hey, how do you think Pat feels about this situation? I’m turning 18 tomorrow and I want to ask him to date. I love who he is, I love his energy, I love how excited he is, I think he’s a great human being.’

“And Rose knew from the jump, from the jump that Pat was gonna be somebody who was in her life forever and ever. So for you to run your mouth, talking about whatever kind of bullshit you’re talking about, calling my good buddy Pat a predator when you don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about, that really kinda bothers me a little bit.”

Days after the podcast episode, it was revealed that Strickland was quite bothered as well. Strickland fired back at Mitrione for what he considered to be defending a predator while also being ignorant of the definition of “grooming.”

“So Matt Mitrione, I heard you had some shit to say about me and how what I said doesn’t sit well with you. Well, let me tell you, Matt: I don’t give a fuck what sits well with you. You’re a fucking can. When’s the last time you won a fucking fight? Aren’t you like 0-8 right now? You’re a fucking loser. Me and you aren’t even in the same fucking category.

“But I’m gonna address what you said about Pat Barry waiting till she was 18. Do you understand what fucking ‘grooming’ means? And mind you, I don’t give a fuck about Rose, I don’t give a fuck about you, I don’t give a fuck about Pat. I’m just stating the facts — that fucking Rose was groomed by Pat Barry. And you defending him, you fucking loser, why don’t we go and fucking check what’s on your fucking laptop, you fucking can?”

For good measure, Strickland would be sure to let Jim West know that he has not forgotten about him, either.

“And Jim West, you’re the same fuckin’ weirdo. And I don’t understand why nobody fuckin’ talks about you, but we all fuckin’ know what you’re doing, too.”

What are your thoughts on Matt Mitrione’s remarks and Sean Strickland’s response?

UFC Middleweight Sean Strickland contender is still taking shots at Pat Barry and Rose Namajunas for their relationship that started when she was 18.

Barry and Namajunas are 13 years apart in age and they met each other when she was a teenager. Strickland has gone on the record saying that their relationship was weird. Barry had said that the comment Strickland had made before the fight messed with her mentality going into the fight. Barry and Namajunas are engaged and soon to be married, but Strickland has come out to say that everything he said was true and he wasn’t in the wrong.

The quote that Barry is referring to was when Strickland compared the two coaches to Harvey Weinstein. “Is Jim West and Pat Berry (sic) the Weinstine of MMA? Or is Michael Jackson a better comparison…@netflix is currently contacting @TheAspenLadd and @rosenamajunas for a TV series lol!!!!! OK, I’m done gotta spar..”

Sean Strickland has taken to Twitter to call out Pat Barry and even went on to say that he groomed Namajunas

“Do you understand what fucking grooming means?… I’m just stating the facts that he groomed Rose Namajunas and you (Matt Mitrione) defending him you f*cking loser. Why don’t we check what’s on your laptop? And Jim West, you’re the same f*cking weirdo. I don’t understand why nobody talks about you, but we all know what you’re doing.” Strickland said in a video he posted to Twitter.

Pat Barry Shares His One Regret In Rose Namajunas’ UFC 274 Strategy

Pat Barry has attempted to provide an explanation for Rose Namajunas’ lackluster performance against Carla Esparza at UFC 274.

Heading into her first appearance of 2022, many expected Namajunas to record a second title defense, which would have extended her reign beyond the length of her first championship rule a number of years ago. But while “Thug Rose” brought fans a memorable knockout and an entertaining five-round affair in 2021, the UFC 274 co-main event was a far cry from her previous contests.

Against former opponent Esparza, Namajunas played her part in what is widely being branded the worst title fight in UFC history. Following a bizarre five-round display, Namajunas lost the strawweight gold on the scorecards after falling on the wrong side of a split-decision verdict.

During and after the result, Barry, who largely led the corner efforts for his partner, received flak for the advice and words he gave Namajunas in the corner. Despite the remarkably low level of output, the former UFC heavyweight assured the 29-year-old that she was doing everything right.

Now, days beyond the disappointing end to Namajunas’ second reign on the 115-pound throne, Barry has assessed what went wrong inside Arizona’s Footprint Center.

Pat Barry: Namajunas Was Too Disciplined

During an appearance on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Barry appeared to defend the game plan that was driven into Namajunas during fight camp. Rather than the strategy being the issue, the 42-year-old suggested that the problem was “Thug Rose” being unable to deviate from it late on.

Barry suggested that even when he instructed the former champion to “freestyle” in the final round, Namajunas was too disciplined to stray from the plan. With that in mind, Barry said that his mistake was drilling too much control into the Wisconsin native.

“Now, where I blew it is all of the training to have control, all of the training that I did, all of the training that we put together, to stay in control of your emotions, stay in control of yourself — we never once went over how to come out of that,” said Barry. “Because at the end of Round 4, myself, when I got in the ring, and people are going to have comments always, when I got in the ring, I pretty much said, ‘Hey man, I think we’re up 4-0. You can feel free to kind of let go a little bit now and freestyle.’ … That was the whole training camp, is not to [freestyle]. The whole training camp was not to do that, expecting her to do it.

“So now we get into the ring, we get into the fight, it’s about to start Round 5 and we’re pretty much saying, ‘Hey, we’ve seen what we need to see. We know where you are and what you’re capable of. You can open up now.’ And it was almost as if you could see Rose go, ‘Ah, ah, no, no, no. No, you’re trying to trick me.’ We’re not,” continued Barry. “She was so prepared to stick to the game plan that she actually stuck to the game plan when we were telling her, ‘Alright, you can ditch it and go to something else now.’ She stuck to it. She stayed completely disciplined. She stayed completely disciplined the entire time, and so did Carla.” (h/t MMA Fighting)

It’s interesting to note that Barry admitted to that advice coming along with the belief that Namajunas was four rounds up. It’s perhaps that idea that demands further explanation, especially given Namajunas’ post-fight belief that defense should have scored her points in the eyes of the judges.

Understandably, the question on the lips of many following Barry’s comments will surround why it took until the fifth round for him to instruct Namajunas to let loose. On two of the three judges’ scorecards, Namajunas had already lost hope of securing a decision, with one even giving all of the first four rounds to Esparza.

What do you make of Pat Barry’s explanation for Rose Namajunas’ lackluster performance at UFC 274?

Pat Barry Claims Sean Strickland’s Allegations May Have Led To ‘Emotional’ Rose Namajunas Loss At UFC 274

Pat Barry, a former UFC heavyweight contender, has claimed that recent comments made by outspoken middleweight contender, Sean Strickland regarding Barry’s relationship with his partner, former two-time strawweight champion, Rose Namajunas – may have led to an emotional performance against Carla Esparza at UFC 274.

Co-headlining UFC 274 last weekend, Namajunas suffered a split decision loss to inaugural strawweight queen, Esparza, suffering her second career defeat to the Torrance native as she became a two-time division champion.

Following the more than forgettable rematch showdown, Namajunas, as well as he corner consisting of leads, Trevor Wittman, and the aforenoted, Barry received criticism for their less than active gameplan, resulting in her split decision loss.

Pat Barry and co were criticized for informing Rose Namajunas that she was likely winning at UFC 274

Namajunas maintained that she should have left Phoenix, Arizona with her championship in tow, claiming that she had employed a defensive gameplan which mitigated any real offensive work from challenger, Esparza.

Commenting on his fiancé’s defeat, Barry, who most recently competed in the UFC back in December 2013, attempted to set the story straight on recent comments made by the above mentioned, Strickland and other social media users regarding his relationship with Namajunas.

“This whole Sean Strickland thing that is all over the place, everywhere – years ago, Rose (Namajunas) did an interview and said, ‘I joined Roufusport when I was 14 years old, and then I left Roufusport for a few years,’” Pat Barry said on The MMA Hour. “Then I came back to Roufusport, to pursue my MMA career, and that’s where I met my fiancé, Pat Barry.’ When the guy wrote the interview up, he wrote, ‘Rose Namajunas joined Roufusport when she was 14 years old, where she met her fiance, Pat Barry, when she was 14 years old.”

“That’s where everyone is getting this sh*t from – a botched interview,” Pat Barry explained. “That’s where everyone is gettin all that from because someone decided to write it that way. It must’ve seemed credible and they just run with it. It’s those type of things everywhere that cause Rose to get into the fight with Carla, and be emotional.” (Transcribed by BJPENN)
