Bellator double champion Patricio “Pitbull” Freire’s next bout in confirmed.

Freire will be defending his 145-pound title against Juan Archuleta from The Forum in Inglewood, California on September 28 a source has confirmed to LowKickMMA. The news was first reported by ESPN’s Ariel Helwani. The bout will be part of Bellator’s 16-man Featherweight World Grand Prix tournament.

“Pitbull” comes off a first-round TKO victory over Michael Chandler at Bellator 221 in May. With the win, Freire captured the Bellator lightweight title as well. The Brazilian is currently on a four-fight win streak. As for Archuleta, he’s on something of a roll himself. He’s on an 18-fight win streak since suffering his last defeat in 2015 after a recent knockout victory over Eduardo Dantas at Bellator 221.

Now, he’ll get the opportunity to capture the first major world championship of his mixed martial arts (MMA) career. Of course, he’ll have no easy task against Freire, who is no doubt one of the best fighters the lighter weight classes of MMA has ever seen.

We’ll keep you updated as more fights continue to be announced for the Bellator Featherweight Grand Prix tournament.

What do you think about the matchup between Freire and Archuleta?

Patricio Freire decided to have some fun with Michael Chandler on social media by mocking him. Despite it being a month since he scored a win over his rival, Freire isn’t letting the former champion down.

Freire scored a 61-second TKO victory over Chandler at the Bellator 221 event on May 11, 2019, at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois that aired on DAZN. This was a big showdown for Chandler, as he put the lightweight title on the line for this highly-anticipated grudge fight.

As a result of the win, Freire added that to his own featherweight title. Freire took to his official Instagram account where he celebrated the win, as well as continued his accusation of Chandler being on performance-enhancing drugs.

Patricio Freire Mocks Michael Chandler Yet Again

He also showed off his displeasure with Chandler bringing up his past win over Patricio’s brother Patricky. He wrote the following:

“A month ago I beat the @bellatormma’s LW GOAT in 61 seconds @mikechandlermma. Most people doubted me. For almost 3 years this PED abuser kept posting the video of his KO over my brother and tagging us, saying he’d beat me. Now I hear he’s been having trouble to sleep, which is weird to hear since he slept so fast on the fight.

I told you you’d pay! You’ll remember this for the rest of your life. Thank you to all my team @pitbullbrothers and those who helped me make this possible!”

Bellator two-weight champion Patricio Freire is extremely confident that he would beat UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway in a cross-promotional fight.

Freire became just the second simultaneous two-weight champion in Bellator history when he knocked out Michael Chandler to become the new 155-pound king.

“Pitbull” was notably an underdog heading into that fight, but was confident of the win right from the get go. It’s one of the reasons why he believes he is the best featherweight in the world. That’s not excluding Holloway either, who is on a 13-fight winning streak at 145 pounds.

“I’d beat him” Freire told MMA Junkie. “That’s a fact. Like I was certain I’d beat Michael Chandler, I am absolutely certain I’d beat Max Holloway.”

Holloway The Same Fighter

Of course, there’s no way of knowing unless the two are in the same promotion, which doesn’t seem likely anytime soon.

However, Freire explained why he feels he would beat the Hawaiian, who he sees as the same fighter who lost to Conor McGregor back in 2013.

“For me, he’s the same Max Holloway who fought Conor McGregor – and who lost to Conor McGregor,” Freire explained. “For me, he’s that same guy, he hasn’t changed much. However, he’s very well-rounded. He’s very tall, and he utilizes his reach very well. And his boxing is very sharp. So, fighters haven’t been able to match him technically. He knocked Jose Aldo out twice with pure boxing. Speaking as a boxer, he managed to paralyze Aldo with that.

“Jose Aldo has always been, for a long time, very fast and very strong, so he was able to have medium technique – not excellent, but good – and managed to stop the other guys for a long time due to his speed and strength, mixed with the technique. Max Holloway, he isn’t a strong guy, but he’s a durable guy, with above-average technique.

“That’s why he’s able to dominate. As soon as he meets someone who matches his technique and who has the durability to hold him off until the end, he’s going to have a problem. And I have power, strength, endurance. I have everything that he doesn’t want.”

Strong words from Bellator’s champ-champ. Do you think he has a chance against Holloway?
