Former UFC lightweight champion, Eddie Alvarez has described Bellator as “hood rats” following claims from Patricio Freire that the promotion had offered to help his brother, Patricky Freire, with his camp and other expenses in order to ensure he defeated Alvarez back in 2012.

Alvarez, a former Bellator and UFC lightweight champion, last featured professionally at ONE on TNT 4 in April of this year under the Chatri Sityodtong-led, ONE Championship banner — suffering a unanimous decision defeat against Ok Rae Yoon over the course of three rounds.

The outing came as the Philadelphia native’s fourth under the organization’s banner, following an eight-fight stint with the UFC where he clinched the undisputed lightweight crown against Rafael dos Anjos back in July 2016.

However, the aforenoted former two-weight champion, Patricio Freire spoke with MMA Fighting reporter, Guilherme Cruz, where he made claims that Bellator had offered to help his elder brother, recently minted lightweight champion, Patricky Freire with expenses and his camp to ensure he would beat Alvarez in 2012.

Bellator called us to talk and said, ‘It’s Eddie Alvarez’s last fight and he’ll leave the organization and we’re putting (Patricky Freire) to beat him up,” Patricio Freire said. “We’ll help you. To sum it up, it was basically like, ‘We’ll put Patricky to beat up Eddie Alvarez because we know Patricky is a badass and won’t back out, and we’ll help you in your camp, whatever you need.’ Cool, (but) that didn’t happen and Patricky got knocked out.

Reacting to Freire’s comments, Alvarez explained how he did not miss that period of his life with the promotion, labeling the organization as a “hood rat“.

Crazy Pitbull (Freire) told these secretes (sic) to the public. …. If fans only knew some of the stuff that happens behind the scenes,” Alvarez tweeted.”Playing hood rat games with a hood rat, winnings (sic) not likely.

They (Bellator) didn’t know I had somebody on the inside that told (me) all their moves beforehand,” Alvarez posted. “I don’t miss this time of my life but it helped me navigate the dangerous jungle more effectively. I’m thankful this happened, it almost bankrupted me but I learned. “Understand your enemy as well as yourself and victory is inevitable.”

Meeting with Freire in a lightweight title-eliminator in 2012, Alvarez stopped the future lightweight titleholder with an opening round, high-kick knockout before stopping now-UFC lightweight contender, Michael Chandler with a split decision to lift the Bellator lightweight crown.

Bellator 270

LowKick MMA will be bringing you Bellator 270: Queally vs. Pitbull 2 results throughout the night (Sat. 30th. October 2021) live from the 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland.

Taking main event status on the promotion’s return to Dublin — the vacant lightweight title is up for grabs between Peter ‘The Showstopper’ Queally and division veteran, Patricky ‘Pitbull’ Freire — as the pair rematch following a May matchup earlier this year.

Initially matching up at Bellator 258, Waterford native, Queally managed to score an eventual second round TKO victory due to a doctor’s stoppage at the end of the frame, after he opened up a significant laceration on the hairline of Pitbull via a series of slashing elbows from the bottom.

The win came as Queally’s second straight under the promotion’s banner following an impressive rallying effort against common-foe, Ryan Scope back at the 3Arena in September of 2019.

For Brazilian veteran, Pitbull, the loss came as his second consecutively following a unanimous decision loss to Tofiq Musayev under the Rizin FF banner back in December 2019.

In the night’s co-headliner, a pivotal bantamweight matchup between streaking grappling standout, James ‘The Strabanimal’ Gallagher and the #3 ranked one-time title challenger, Patchy ‘No Love’ Mix.

Unbeaten in his last four on the bounce, Strabane native, Gallagher most recently headlined Bellator Euro Series 9 in October of last year in Milan, Italy — submitting Cal Ellenor with a first round rear-naked choke.

For New York native, Mix, the one-time bantamweight title challenger returned from his first career loss in May — stopping short-notice replacement, Albert Morales with a third round arm-triangle.

Patricky ‘Pitbull’ Freire makes his much-anticipated return to the Bellator cage this Friday. Following his brother, Patricio‘s recent win over Emmanuel Sanchez, Patricky is looking to make it 2-0 for the Pitbull brothers in 2021. His opponent is Irish knockout artist Peter Queally.

There has been a long running rivalry between the Pitbull brothers gym and SBG Ireland, the gym of Queally, James Gallagher and Conor McGregor.

Patricky recently sat down with Lowkick MMA’s Frank Bonada to discuss the animosity between himself and Queally.

“First he started talking a lot of sh*t… He came to attack us but he wasn’t a Bellator fighter back then,” Freire said. “So I told him I would give him a chance to put his money where his mouth was, and got him the job at Bellator. Which I did, I asked Bellator to hire him. And they did.

So he has to be very thankful to me. For being granted this opportunity in a big organisation, getting big money and a big promotion in his home country. He could even pay me a little bit of his (fight) purse amount because I’m pretty much his manager. But I’m gonna do what he was looking for, I’m gonna beat him up.”

Patricky only sees this fight going one way, and will look to emulate his brother’s victory over another SBG fighter in Pedro Carvalho. He stated the following:

My camp was very good. I feel very good, like a young lion. One year I don’t fight so I’m very hungry. I’m very excited to fight.”

“He talks too much… I will finish him. Easy. Like my brother make with Carvalho. Inside the second round, I’m sure.”

Patricky ‘Pitbull’ Freire will face off against Peter Queally on Friday the 7th of May. The fight is on the main card of Bellator 258, along with other fan favourite fighters such as Michael Page, Sergio Pettis, Juan Archuleta and Anthony Johnson.

Dude Wipes, Spray Tans, and Unnecessary Side Burns: A Bellator 138 Weigh-Ins Exclusive

(All photos via Chad Blessinger.)

By Zach Heim and Chad Blessinger

Describing the atmosphere of a Bellator weigh-in — especially one headlined by the freakiest freakshow fight this side of Kinnikuman vs. Bob Sapp — is a difficult thing to do on paper. The energy is not quite as high as at the typically UFC event (well, a pay-per-view, anyway) and the loudest bouts of applause from the half-filled floor seating generally are oft reserved for the bevy of local fighters competing on the evening’s undercard. There is a distinct lack of frills at a Bellator event, which makes sense given that the promotion is now run under the guidance of Scott “No Nonsense” Coker.

At yesterday afternoon’s Bellator 138: Unfinished Business weigh-ins, which took place at the Scottrade Center in downtown St. Louis, the atmosphere was similarly underwhelming for a card that features the likes of Patricky Pitbull, Daniel Straus, and Michael Chandler to name a few. It was the featherweight champion who made the biggest impact, however, both on and off the scale. After missing weight on his first try, Pitbull frustratingly addressed the media about being the co-main event to a couple of fighters he felt “sorry for” before openly admitting that he would NOT be watching their fight. Talk about a company man, amiright?

Describing the atmosphere of a Bellator weigh-in — especially one headlined by the freakiest freakshow fight this side of Kinnikuman vs. Bob Sapp – is a difficult thing to do on paper.

Patricky would make weight on his second try, which is more than you could say for undercard fighters Chris Heatherly and Matt Helm, who both showed up heavy for their respective fights with Garrett Gross and Rashard Lovelace.

But onto the reason why we’re all here: The main event. We’d been lucky enough to steal some time with Ken Shamrock recently, who at 51-years-old appears to be in some of the best shape of his life (thanks to genetics and hard work, of course). On top of that, his recent interviews have painted him as a honest, humbled, and most importantly, reinvigorated man with a renewed passion to end his career on a high note. The “World’s Most Dangerous Spray Tan” he was rocking at yesterday’s weigh-ins, on the other hand…

Oooh boy.

As for Slice, well, what is there to say, really? The man showed up sporting a Dude Wipes sponsorship across his backside — which, if there has ever been a product that epitomizes this fight, it’s freaking Dude Wipes.

Other than that, it appears that Slice has developed a little bit of a paunch since we last saw him, but has not lost one bit of pep in that excellent beard. (I swear, I saw a small squirrel poking out of it at one point. A squirrel with a switchblade.)

All joking aside, this card is loaded with great fighters and should make for an action packed night of fights. Former champion Daniel Straus looks to get back on the road to another title fight as he takes on undefeated Bellator newcomer Henry Corrales. Patricio Pitbull defends his feather weight title against Daniel Weichel, and hometown fight Michael Chandler will square off with 15-4 Derek Campos. And finally, one lucky fan may get to take home the head of last minute replacement Dan Charles after Bobby Lastly knocks it into the 17th row.

A full video of the Bellator 138 weigh-ins is below along with a full list of results.
