This past weekend, former UFC, Strikeforce, and Bellator MMA fighter Paul Daley fought what he has stated will be his last professional fight. ‘Semtex’ eviscerated Wendell Giacomo with a series of lethal hooks in the second round of his main card bout at Bellator 281.

This win brought Paul Daley’s record to 44-18-2 and was his 35th win via knockout. Now at the age of 39, Daley has seen fit to hang up his gloves. However, he has stated that there are two fights that would make him return to MMA.

In a recent interview with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, Daley revealed that a rematch against former foe Nick Diaz would tempt him out of retirement, as would a bout against ‘BMF’ titleholder, Jorge ‘Gamebred’ Masvidal. He stated that:

“I don’t wish I can get back any fight in terms of changing what already happened. But, I think if I was to pick a fight to have a rematch, it would definitely be Nick Diaz or [Jorge] Masvidal. Because they’re the ones that have turned into pay-per-view stars and I could get the most money from.”

“Nick Diaz was a great fight and I beat Masvidal, and he holds the BMF belt, even though he’s lost his last fight or so. Those are the ones that if someone came to me and said, ‘What’s going to get you out of retirement?’, those two fights. That’s it, those are the only two fights that would pull me out.” (H/T BJPENN.COM).

Paul Daley vs. Nick Diaz 1

Paul Daley and Nick Diaz’s first fight is known for being one of the greatest MMA wars of all time. The two welterweights faced off under the Strikeforce banner in 2011 for the 170lb title.

The fight may have only lasted one round, but both men hit the canvas at various points. Diaz may have ultimately won, dropping Daley at the end of the round and forcing ‘Big’ John McCarthy to stop the fight, but Daley gave as good an account of himself as one could hope for.

Fans would certainly love to see these two veterans run it back in one last hurrah for both their careers. Check out the iconic first fight below:

After undeniably losing the first round and a half of his final pro MMA fight, Paul Daley exploded into action, knocking out his opponent in truly emphatic fashion at Bellator 281.

Daley walked out to a rapturous crowd in the SSE Arena. However, things did not initially go to plan for the former Strikeforce, UFC and Bellator veteran. His opponent, Wendell Giacomo, was able to out grapple him for the entirety of the first round, and even appeared to come close to securing a leg lock.

‘Semtex’ opened up at the start of round 2, but a reckless flying knee saw him once again brought to the ground. However, Daley climbed back to his feet, and suddenly unleashed a barrage of punches. Giacomo could do nothing more than collapse to the canvas, as one of the hardest p4p hitters in MMA did what he does best.

Paul Daley wins via second-round KO.

MMA veteran Paul Daley claims he was offered a boxing match against former UFC fighter and commentator Dan Hardy but rejected it.

Daley will have his farewell MMA fight this weekend at Bellator 281 against Wendell Giacomo. He’s opted to call it a career after a long run that featured stints in Strikeforce, UFC, and now with Bellator.

Hardy will make his own combat sports return this summer against Diego Sanchez in the boxing ring. He hasn’t competed in MMA since his win over Amir Sadollah at a 2012 UFC event.

Before Sanchez was offered the bout with Hardy, Daley says he was offered the opportunity to box his British colleague.

“I had an offer to fight Dan, and I’m not even sure if Dan knows, but I have email proof and text proof that I was offered a very lucrative opportunity to fight a former teammate,” Daley said during his Bellator 281 pre-fight press conference. “But I wouldn’t do that because although me and Dan aren’t as close as we were, at this stage when we started out in the sport, we kind of grew together to a certain stage and it’s like even though you grow apart, you still have that bond.” (h/t BJ Penn)

Daley didn’t reveal the exact amount of money he was offered to fight Hardy.

Hardy had also initially been linked to a boxing match against former UFC champion Tyron Woodley, but negotiations didn’t materialize. It’s unclear if he plans on boxing past this upcoming fight with Sanchez.

As for Daley, he’ll look to put a stamp on his MMA career this weekend with one more potentially electric performance at Bellator London.

A Bellator welterweight showdown between the retiring Paul Daley and rising contender Andrey Koreshkov is in the works for Bellator London.

News of the booking was reported by MMA journalist Michael Martin.

Daley has recently said in an interview with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour that he intends to retire after one more fight in the Bellator cage. He most recently lost to Jason Jackson at Bellator 260 after winning three in a row.

The Bellator London card is scheduled to take place at The SSE Arena on May 13.

Koreshkov is just days removed from his first-round knockout over Chance Rencountre at Bellator 274. He landed a heavy spinning back kick before finishing the fight with a flurry of ground-and-pound punches.

Koreshkov hasn’t lost since his controversial split decision defeat to Lorenz Larkin at Bellator 229.

Daley looked to be back in the welterweight title picture in Bellator after back-to-back wins over Saad Awad and Erick Silva in 2019. He followed it up with an impressive knockout over Sabah Homasi before the loss to Jackson.

Daley made his Bellator debut back in 2015 at Bellator 134, earning a unanimous decision win over Andre Santos. This was after he received a lifetime ban from the UFC for sucker-punching Josh Koscheck at UFC 113.

The Bellator London card will be headlined by a welterweight title fight between the champion Yaroslav Amosov against Michael Venom Page. If Koreshkov can get past Daley, he may move one step closer to a potential title shot in 2022.
