Bellator 170 was filled with some interesting fights. Tito Ortiz and Chael Sonnen fought an old man match so clunky people thought it was fixed, Hisaki Kato vs. Ralek Gracie played “let’s not actually fight each other” for 3 rds, and Emmanuel Sanchez managed to throw two illegal knees to a downed opponent and still come out on with a victory. However, one thing that was pretty straightforward was Paul “Semtex” Daley’s 1st round flying knee K.O. of Brennan Ward, and even more straightforward is the picture of the result.

Daley who has won 6 out of his last 7 fights, only losing to current Bellator welterweight champ Douglas Lima, says the win was bittersweet as he looked over the cage post celebration only to see Ward’s girlfriend crying. It was a pretty vicious knockout which many are already predicting will be up there for K.O. of the year.
After the victory, Daley sent a heartfelt welcome to Rory “The Red King” MacDonald by challenging him to his first match in Bellator. Rory quickly replied with a 20 second of video of Hangover comedian Zack Galifianakis laughing his little heart out.
Rory is coming off two back to back losses against Robbie Lawler and Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson with the UFC. While Daley definitely has K.O. power in every limb of his body, Rory definitely has one of the most developed skill set in all of MMA and is used to making power punchers look basic.
MacDonald is waiting to completely heal from repeated nose injuries sustained over his fighting career. No date for a debut has been set. Lionel Harris-Spence is a writer, filmmaker, and functioning alcoholic. You can catch him screaming obscenities at flat screens on fight night.

Apparently Rory MacDonald isn’t as impressed with knockout artist Paul Daley following his highlight reel, early “Knockout of the Year” performance against Brennan Ward at Bellator 170 this weekend.
After knocking out Brennan with a devastating flying knee early into the fight, Daley, who fights at 170 pounds, immediately called out the former UFC title contender during his post-fight interview in the cage, as well as at the official Bellator 170 Post-Fight Press Conference.

UFC, Strikeforce and Cage Rage veteran Paul Daley was back, and he left a trail of destruction in the co-main event. Facing the dangerous ‘Irish Bad Boy’ Brennan Ward, ‘Semtex’ put on a striking clinic. After a spinning elbow to separate the clinch, Daley unleashed a flying knee with devastating intentions. Once it landed, Ward fell flat to the canvas, later being carried out by stretcher.
Having signed Rory MacDonald in 2016, BMMA has a lot of interesting fights to make now. Already a force at welterweight is English striker Michael ‘Venom’ Page, and Daley’s highlight reel knockout adds to the intrigue. Following his first round win at Bellator 170, Daley quickly challenged MacDonald to fight him.
Where You At, Rory?
Claiming he’d KO his fellow UFC veteran, ‘Semtex’ spurred a response from MacDonald. Since signing with Bellator in August last year, ‘Red King’ has been without an opponent. Possibly taking some time to recover from his bloody UFC wars, MacDonald has been making media appearances for BMMA. Here’s what ‘The Canadian Psycho’ said in response to Daley:
Keeping with the 170-pound Bellator picture, Michael Page also had something to say about Paul Daley. Seeing the similarities between Daley’s KO of Ward, and his own against Cyborg, ‘Venom’ had the following to say:
Interesting ???? I think someone has been studying my videos
It’s time for Bellator to continue making big fights, Daley vs. Ward was a good start for the welterweight category. The ‘circus era’ of Bellator needs to become a thing of the past if they want to get up there with the UFC. Ironically it’s some of the UFC’s former stars who have been, and could well make that a reality. Fights to make for Paul Daley? Page or MacDonald, but given recent trends, the Canadian is more likely, even though he hasn’t fought in six months.

Paul Daley made a statement tonight (Jan. 21) at Bellator 170. In the co-main event, Daley took on former middleweight contender Brennan Ward. Many expected fireworks and “Semtex” did not disappoint.
Daley was taken down early in the fight, but he was able to get back to his feet quickly. A spinning back elbow from Daley was able to create distance. Once there was separation, it allowed “Semtex” to land a vicious jumping knee to the side of Ward’s head and he was out.
The first round knockout was Daley’s 39th professional win and his 29th knockout. It was Daley’s fifth win inside the Bellator cage. This improves his record in the promotion to 5-1.
After the fight, Daley had some choice words for a certain welterweight making his Bellator debut soon. He said, “If Rory MacDonald step in the cage with me, he’s getting knocked the f*ck out.”
“Red King” last saw action against Stephen Thompson back in June 2016. He fell short in a unanimous decision loss. Prior, he and Robbie Lawler had a title bout that earned them “Fight of the Year” honors. MacDonald was TKO’d in the final round.
MacDonald decided not to re-sign with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and his next bout will be in a Bellator cage. No fight has been made official for “Red King,” but it’s clear he has someone willing to dance.

Many were expecting fire works and that’s exactly what transpired, as Daley landed a spinning back elbow early in the first round before landing a perfectly time flying knee that put Ward to sleep in brutal fashion.

In the aftermath of the bout, Daley called out former UFC welterweight title challenger Rory MacDonald, who signed with Bellator last year. The “Red King” is expected to make his promotional debut this summer.
