Paul Felder will consider a jump up to welterweight.

The longtime lightweight veteran was previously on a three-fight win streak in the division. That was ended against Mike Perry at UFC 226 in July. However, that fight was contested at welterweight.

Felder told MMA Fighting‘s Luke Thomas on The MMA Hour his plans in regards to weight classes. He wants to attempt one more really strong lightweight run before jumping up to 170 pounds:

“I was on a three-fight winning streak and now I took an loss, but I only took a loss at 170,” Felder said.

“So I still haven’t lost over a year at 155 so I’m hoping that, I gotta talk to coaches and my manager and things like that.

“But I was really leaning toward ’70 leading up to that fight and now I want to try to make one more really strong run at getting into the top 5 and I’d love to fight for that belt some day.”

Initially Felder was to fight James Vick at UFC 226. Instead, Vick was pulled to main event this past weekend’s UFC Lincoln card opposite Justin Gaethje. Felder jumped up to welterweight to fight Mike Perry, who’s opponent also pulled.

During his fight with Perry, Felder broke his hand early on. It hindered his performance and may have played a role in the result. With a full fight camp at welterweight, and full health, Felder thinks he can really compete in the division:

“The unfortunate thing for me is, if that had gone well, I think ’70 is very much a possibility,” Felder said.

“I don’t think size or strength is really why things went wrong – I think it was just a tough fight, circumstances didn’t go my way. I got hurt, but I really feel I could compete at that weight class, but I do, also, a big part of me thinks I could really still make a run at the top at 155.”

Paul Felder is as tough as they come.

“The Irish Dragon” had a wild road to the UFC 226 pay-per-view (PPV) last weekend (Sat. July 7, 2018). Initially, Felder was scheduled to fight James Vick in Las Vegas. Instead, Vick was shuffled into the main event of UFC Lincoln against Justin Gaethje after Al Iaquinta dropped out of the slot.

It just so happened that Mike Perry lost his initial UFC 226 opponent, Yancy Medeiros, as well. Naturally, the UFC matched Felder and Perry up for a welterweight contest.

Perry and Felder put on one of the more entertaining fights of the night, but when it was all said and done “Platinum” emerged victorious via split decision. Felder got pretty nicked up after 15 minutes in the cage with Perry.

He suffered a nasty cut in the opening moments of the fight that was bleeding profusely all night. Perry later required stitches to close up the wound. Felder also broke his arm in the middle of the fight but still managed to go the distance nonetheless. He even continued to throw some big shots with the arm despite the break.

Felder’s management recently shared on their Instagram a photo of how their client broke his arm, paired with an x-ray showcasing the break as well. Check it out:

With every decision comes a consequence and for those fighters who took part in battle at UFC 226, it’s their time to faces those consequences in the form of medical suspensions.

UFC 226 took place on Saturday, July 7, 2018, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with the main card aired on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET while the preliminary card aired on FOX Sports 1 at 8 p.m. ET and the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass, at 7 p.m. ET.

Stipe Miocic vs. Daniel Cormier for the heavyweight title headlined this show while Derrick Lewis vs. Francis Ngannou in a heavyweight bout served as the co-main event.

Rounding out this five bout main card was Paul Felder vs. Mike Perry in a welterweight bout, Michael Chiesa vs. Anthony Pettis in a lightweight bout, and Khalil Rountree vs. Gokhan Saki in a light heavyweight bout. Uriah Hall vs. Paulo Costa in a middleweight bout headlined the preliminary portion of this event.

Some of the more notable suspensions include three fighters – Cormier,  Felder, and Costa – earning the longest suspensions as they are out until January 4, 2019 unless cleared by a doctor. Cormier needs to have his right hand x-rayed following his KO win over the former UFC heavyweight champion.

Regarding Felder, he needs to have his broken right ulnar cleared by an orthopedic doctor while Costa needs to have his left ankle and foot x-rayed. Here are the entire medical suspensions, courtesy of MMA Fighting:

Daniel Cormier: Must have right hand x-rayed, if positive then must seek orthopedic doctor clearance or no contest until 01/04/19; minimum suspension of no contest until 08/07, no contact until 07/29

Paul Felder: Must have broken right ulnar cleared by orthopedic doctor or no contest until 01/04/19; minimum suspension of no contest until 09/06, no contact until 08/22 due to facial/scalp lacerations

Paulo Costa: Must have left ankle and foot x-rayed, if positive then must seek orthopedic doctor clearance or no contest until 01/04/19; minimum suspension of no contest until 08/07, no contact until 07/29

Stipe Miocic: Suspended until 09/06, no contact until 08/22

Gokhan Saki: Suspended until 09/06, no contact until 08/22

Uriah Hall: Suspended until 09/06, no contact until 08/22 due to right hand tenderness and laceration under left eye

Gilbert Burns: Suspended until 08/22, no contact until 08/07 due to laceration

Derrick Lewis: Suspended until 08/07, no contact until 07/29 due to acute back spasm

Mike Perry: Suspended until 08/07, no contact until 07/29 due to nasal laceration

Anthony Pettis: Suspended until 08/07, no contact until 07/29 due to lower lip laceration

Rob Font: Suspended until 08/07, no contact until 07/29

Lando Vannata: Suspended until 08/07, no contact until 07/29 due to left ankle tenderness and three facial lacerations

Curtis Millender: Suspend until 08/07, no contact until 07/29

Max Griffin: Suspended until 08/07, no contact until 07/29

Emily Whitmire: Suspended until 08/07, no contact until 07/29/18 due to laceration

With Brock Lesnar being elibale to fight again in early 2019 and DC potentially being out until then, it would set up things nicely for this showdown for the UFC heavyweight title.

Paul Felder Waited Hours For Stitches After Bloody UFC 226 Loss

Felder went through hell last night.

Paul Felder waited longer than he should’ve needed to for medical treatment after his UFC 226 fight with Mike Perry.

Felder and Perry clashed on the main card of the UFC 226 pay-per-view (PPV) last night (Sat. July 7, 2018). In the opening exchange “The Irish Dragon” was busted open badly by an apparent headbutt. Throughout the course of the fight the cut would continue to get worse.

When it was all said and done, “Platinum” took home the victory on the judges’ scorecards – yet both men sustained significant injuries of their own. Perry had a gruesome facial procedure on his nose, and Felder was taken to a nearby medical facility shortly after the fight, not only for his cut, but because he seemed to have broken his arm during the fight as well.

It looks like Felder’s experience at the nearby Las Vegas medical facility wasn’t a pleasant one. He took to Twitter and noted that he wasn’t even cleaned up of the dried blood on his face, and had to wait a ridiculously long amount of time before getting stitched up.

He shared the following:
