The soon to return former UFC light-heavyweight title challenger Anthony Johnson has let rip at Paulo Costa. ‘Rumble’ has not been impressed with how the Brazilian knockout artist handled his loss to middleweight champion Israel Adesanya.

Costa and Adesanya had a long and bitter build up to their UFC 253 main event fight this past weekend. ‘Stylebender’ made easy work of the previously unbeaten Costa who suffered a second-round knockout loss.

Immediately after the fight was called Adesanya was seen humping his downed opponent – something Costa has not taken well. ‘Borrachinha’ has vowed to get revenge on Adesanya and also indicated he was injured heading into the fight.

Speaking on the latest episode of Real Quick with Mike Swick, Johnson revealed he was not surprised to see Adesanya look so flawless in victory at UFC 253 due to training with the New Zealander in the past.

“I figured that was gonna happen,” Johnson said. “Costa is a little flat footed, a little bit. He’ll pressure you, he knows how to go forward. I don’t think he knows how to go backwards. But I’ve trained with Stylebender, he’s whupped my butt pretty good. Came in the gym, had just finished his kickboxing match a week or two before. And that’s when I had just started my camp and he came and put a beating on me. He’s really good, gotta give him credit, he’s the best.”

“But Costa, when you showboat like that you actually … you’re not focused. How many people have played that game and have come out successful? That’s not something to play with, especially not in a championship. Don’t play like that.”

Johnson thinks Costa’s attitude cost him in the fight. ‘Rumble’ also isn’t a fan of the Brazilian’s attitude post-fight and has advised the middleweight contender to “man up”.

“Stylebender was serious, Costa came in thinking that he’s just a white belt, he’s nothing, he’s skinny,” Johnson continued. “Hey, being skinny has its advantages, dude. I don’t understand all of a sudden either why Costa is getting so upset after he saw what Stylebender did to him, you know? I was like ‘Dude, you were the one talking so much and then he gets you at the end and now you mad? Because he embarrassed you? Come on man, grow some balls. Man up to that.’ It is what it is. You can’t demand a rematch either after a performance like that either. That’s not smart. That’s not gonna sell for sure.”

Do you agree with Anthony Johnson? Does Paulo Costa need to “man up” and take his loss to Israel Adesanya?

Paulo Costa finally learned what Israel Adesanya did to him following their UFC 253 middleweight title fight this past weekend.

Adesanya enjoyed a dominant victory over Costa in their heated grudge match after a second-round TKO win. However, what went viral was Adesanya humping Costa as the referee called an end to the fight to send a message to the Brazilian.

It appears Costa only just found out about it as he took to Instagram to post a video about Adesanya’s actions on Monday.

“I come here to talk about the action that human trash did, that human trash did after the fight,” Costa said. “I didn’t see when I was there in the cage but I saw now, and I disapprove 100 percent. … Nobody can stop me, nobody can stop me. I want my rematch.

“You know, something happened before the fight. I’m not giving excuses to my people, my fans, but I will e 100 percent to fight him and make him pay. That’s my words. Save my words.”

Adesanya has already come across the post and made some comments.

“The Last Stylebender” followed it up with an Instagram post of his own.

Costa will definitely need a win or two before he can think of getting a rematch with Adesanya, but one thing is for sure — it looks like their beef will continue for a while.

What do you make of Costa’s response?

The UFC 253 headliner didn’t go the way Dana White expected it to.

Israel Adesanya successfully defended his middleweight title against Paulo Costa following a dominant second-round TKO win on Saturday night.

Many were anticipating the matchup for months given the styles of the two fighters, especially Costa who is known for his pressure and volume. However, “The Eraser” chose to showboat and clown around while receiving damage from Adesanya in the process.

When he did attempt to engage, he had very little success landing on Adesanya. In the end, “The Last Stylebender” was able to catch Costa and drop him en route to the TKO finish.

And while White had praise for Adesanya’s performance, he was left feeling underwhelmed because of how Costa performed.

“So much for ‘Fight of the Year’ – it was ‘Domination of the Year,’” White said at the post-fight news conference (via MMA Junkie). “It was weird because if you look at every other fight that Costa has had, he comes out and goes after people like they owe him money. I think he landed one jab in this fight. He didn’t try to clinch on the fence, didn’t try to put pressure, kept going back to the center of the octagon. It was very weird.

“If he fought the way he fights – I mean look at the way he fought Yoel Romero, one of the most dangerous guys ever, and then he stays on the outside, taking damage to that front leg (against Adesanya). Then when he does rush in and get him up against the cage, he backs out to the center of the cage again. (He) never tried to get in the clinch. I think he only landed one jab (and) didn’t really thrown any punches when (Adesanya) threw kicks. It was very weird. I just sat there going, ‘Holy (explicit).’ Obviously Adesanya went to work, pieced him piece by piece, made it look really easy.”

While Adesanya’s previous fight with Yoel Romero deserved uproar according to White, this time, the champion certainly wasn’t to blame as he ended up winning in convincing fashion.

“No matter what, it was Adesanya put on a clinic,” White added. “The first three calf kicks busted up his leg and got him right in the side of the knee. (He) had a huge welt on the side of the knee, and then the shin to the eye and just absolutely dismantled him. (He) easily won the fight.”

Do you agree with White?

Successfully defending his UFC middleweight championship last night in the main event of UFC 253 – undefeated kingpin, Israel ‘The Last Stylebender’ Adesanya has come under some fire for his post-fight antics and celebrations, appearing to mockingly hump Paulo ‘The Eraser’ Costa after his second-round knockout win.

The Nigerian-Kiwi scored his second successful title defence at the ‘Fight Island’ event, adding the then-undefeated Brazilian to a March title knockback of multiple-time title challenger, Yoel ‘Soldier of God’ Romero. Scoring a multitude of damaging leg kicks to Costa’s orthodox left in the opening frame, Adesanya rattled the Belo Horizonte native in the second round with a massive left head kick, opening a sizeable cut – before dropping Costa with a counter left hand.

Assuming full-mount eventually, Adesanya began unloading on a shelled-up Costa, with referee Jason Herzog separating the two and calling a halt to the affair before the latter thrust his hips towards the small of Costa’s back

Awaiting the official announcement of result from veteran MC, Bruce Buffer – Adesanya was involved in an exchange with Costa’s cornerman, Eric Albarracin – where the latter claims how recently retired former two-weight world champion, Henry ‘Triple C’ Cejudo is still coming for featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski’s belt – with Adesanya explaining how he would ejaculate on Albarracin. Adesanya, of course, plys his trade with Volkanovski under renowned head coach, Eugene Bareman at City Kickboxing.

Speaking with UFC commentator, Jon Anik afterwards – Adesanya seemed to call his next shot, detailing how if streaking UFC 254 co-headliner, Jared ‘The Killa Gorilla’ Cannonier could get past soon to be common-opposition, Whittaker in October – he would like to defend his title opposite him next

As of writing, no disciplinary action has been brought against Adesanya by the UFC, but has received some flak on social media for his decision to mockingly dry hump Costa after his win
