Francis Ngannou feels like 'boxing owes him something' following his devastating KO loss to Anthony Joshua

Francis Ngannou isn’t done just yet.

‘The Predator’ returned to the squared circle on Friday, March 8, for a showdown with the WBC’s top-ranked heavyweight contender, Anthony Joshua. The bout emanated from Kingdom Arena, the same venue where Ngannou went 10 rounds with Tyson Fury, and nearly defeated ‘The Gypsy King’ in his critically acclaimed pro boxing debut.

Unfortunately, things would not go quite as well for Ngannou the second time around. The former UFC heavyweight champion was sat down by Joshua in back-to-back rounds before being blasted with a vicious right hand that sent Ngannou crashing to the canvas.

Many assumed that Francis Ngannou would head back to the world of mixed martial arts to make his long-awaited debut for the Professional Fighters League following the loss. However, ‘The Predator’ appears to have different plans. In a video on Ngannou’s YouTube channel, he reveals that a third boxing match could be next and admitted to feeling like boxing “owes” him something after his brutal defeat in the ‘Knockout Chaos’ headliner.

“What’s next for me? Maybe a third boxing match,” Ngannou said. “I feel like boxing owes me something now. I have to regain what boxing took out of me. I think my ego will not let me step back and let go of this without doing everything to reinstall and prove to the world that I am the man of this job. I can do it, you know. I slipped, but I didn’t fall. I stumbled, but I didn’t fall.

“I think if I go back, train, learn from it, and use it as an advantage and experience for my personal growth, I think it will not be a loss. I will be able to reverse it and make it a victory. A life victory. Not only a sports victory.”

Could We See Francis Ngannou vs. Deontay Wilder next?

We’re not sure if anyone is clamoring to see Francis Ngannou step back inside the boxing ring, but if he does, one of the names already being tossed around is Deontay Wilder. Holder of the WBC heavyweight title from 2015 to 2020, ‘The Bronze Bomber’ is considered to be one of the most dangerous punchers in the game, though he has struggled to find his way into the win column as of late.

After absorbing back-to-back losses against Tyson Fury, Wilder bounced back with a first-round knockout of Robert Helenius. Sadly, he followed up the quick finish with a lackluster performance against Joseph Parker in December 2023, losing via unanimous decision to the 35-3 fighter.

With both men coming off losses, it could be a perfect pairing. And if not, Francis Ngannou still has 2023 PFL heavyweight tournament winner Renan Ferreira eagerly waiting to welcome him to the Smart Cage.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou provides update following horrific knockout loss to Anthony Joshua.

Last Friday proved a step to far for Ngannou when he faced off with Joshua in Saudi Arabia. After dropping ‘The Predator’, Joshua would completely shut the lights out on an already dazed Ngannou in just the second round.

Despite displaying a great chin throughout his career, Joshua left Ngannou utterly unconscious and in need of oxygen – a sight that many thought they would never see. Seeing a fighter in the state that he was is always concerning and while Ngannou does seem in good spirits, claimed that he was ‘falling asleep’ prior to the loss.

Francis Ngannou reveals issues warming up for Anthony Joshua fight

“I remember being in the locker room trying to warm ubut I was feeling asleep, I was sweating but I was feeling asleep,” Francis Ngannou said during an Instagram Live session. “No blame to anybody all the blame here is just about me it’s the game, walking into that (fight) we all knew it could happen, I wasn’t seeing it happen like that but I always knew it could happen.”

Ngannou would also confirm that he intends to continue fighting but has yet to state whether it will be MMA or boxing next.

Francis Ngannou opens as massive betting favorite to beat Renan Ferreira in expected PFL debut

“I just want to let you guys know that it’s not over yet, not at all, we’re just getting started,” Ngannou said. “The only thing that we will miss here is time and I think we have a good amount of time ahead of us.

“As for right now, I’m going to take some time for myself spend some time with my family and friends, and then come back really and get ready for another challenge and adventure.”

Nagnnou is still signed to the PFL, who have stated their interest in pitting him against their heavyweight champion Rennan Ferreira, who recently defeated Bellator champion Ryan Bader.

Francis Ngannou releases statement after KO loss to Anthony Joshua I let you down

Francis Ngannou had a bad night at the office.

After delivering a critically acclaimed performance against Tyson Fury in his professional boxing debut last October, Ngannou felt as confident as ever going into Friday’s showdown with the WBC’s top-ranked contender, Anthony Joshua.

While Ngannou looked good in the opening minutes, Joshua didn’t take long to take over, planting ‘The Predator’ on the mat before the end of the first round with a solid straight right. Ngannou got back to his feet and made it to the second round where Joshua sat him down again with a repeat right hand. Ngannou again answered the referee’s count, but this time, Joshua had no intention of letting him off the hook. Joshua immediately moved in, blasting the Cameroonian with a booming right hook that immediately rendered Ngannou unconscious.

Sorry guys I let you all down,” Ngannou wrote on X following the devastating defeat. “Today was a bad day in the office but tomorrow will be another day. Thank you all for the love.”

Francis Ngannou expected to follow up his loss to Anthony Joshua with PFL debut

With the loss, Francis Ngannou fell to 0-2 in his pro boxing career, though that’s certainly nothing to be ashamed of considering the losses have come against two of the toughest heavyweights in the world.

Anthony Joshua improved to 28-3 with three straight finishes and will likely find himself fighting the winner of May’s unified heavyweight world title tilt between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk.

Chances are, Ngannou’s boxing experiment is far from over, but for now, ‘The Predator’ will turn his attention back toward MMA for his long-awaited PFL debut. Expected to meet him inside the Smart Cage is the 2023 heavyweight tournament winner, Renan Ferreira.

‘Problema’ only needed 21 seconds to put away Bellator MMA heavyweight champion Ryan Bader in the PFL vs. Bellator main event last month, guaranteeing himself a fight with ‘The Predator’ later this year.

Cedric Doumbe gets glass stuck in foot loses unbeaten MMA record by TKO to Baki Chamsoudinov PFL Europe 1 Highlights

Cameroon kickboxing standout, Cedric Doumbe has seen his five fight unbeaten run in professional mixed martial arts come to an end in France tonight — in some of the most bizarre and unseen circumstances in recent memory, after apparently seeing a splinter of glass get lodged in his foot — forcing a third round TKO loss against Bassangour Chamsoudinov in their PFL Europe 1 main event tonight in Paris.

Doumbe, a decorate kickboxing star and former two-time GLORY Kickboxing welterweight champion, arrived into his sophomore outing under the Peter Murray-led PFL (Professional Fighters League) tonight — fresh from a Knockout of the Year win over Jordan Zebo at the Accor Arena last September, in just 9 seconds with a brutal stoppage win.

And dropping the first round against the uber-prospect, Chamsourdinov — who utilized his wrestling and grappling to great effect in the frame, before one of the most bizarre and dubious stoppages in the history of the sport surely, brought an anticlimatic end to tonight’s action in Paris.

Complaining of discomfort in his foot during the third round of his fight with Chamsourdinov, Doumbe questioned referee, Marc Goddard for a timeout — apparently in order to remove a foreign object from his foot, and continue his fight with the former.

Waving away Doumbe’s protest, Goddard instructed the pair to continue fighting, before Chamsourdinov and the kickboxing star halted the action once more — with the British official once more rushing in and calling a definitive end to the action, and thus, handing Doumbe his first-ever loss in MMA by way of TKO.

Speaking following the official decision — which saw Chamsourdinov emerge with a win, Cedric Doumbe claimed a piece of glass had become lodged in his foot somehow, and he just wanted to remove it from his extremity before fighting again.

“I’m disgusted,” Cedric Doumbe said. “I didn’t want this. Make some noise for Baki (Bassangour Chamsourdinov). This isn’t his fault. It’s the ref’s fault. I feel like there is a piece of glass or wood in my foot. I told the ref. I told Baki. Baki said so get it out. And then the ref stopped it. I never asked to stop the fight.”

Jake Paul shuts down MMA debut fight with Tony Ferguson I don't want to see him go out like that

Amid links to an expected professional mixed martial arts debut later this annum, off the back of his ninth professional boxing win over the course of last weekend, Jake Paul has immediately shut the door on a potential debut against former interim UFC lightweight champion, Tony Ferguson.

Paul, who improved to 9-1 as a professional boxer over the course of last weekend in San Juan, Puerto Rico, turned in a blistering opening round TKO win over the returning former Golden Gloves winner, Ryan Bourland.

The victory came as Ohio native, Paul’s third consecutively, following a December knockout of Andre Auguse, and a decision win over former UFC star, Nate Diaz back in August of last year in the Stockton native’s professional boxing debut.

Jake Paul vetos Tony Ferguson fight in MMA debut

And penning a multi-fight deal with the Peter Murray-led PFL (Professional Fighters League) last year ahead of an expected mixed martial arts with the North American-based organization, Paul has immediately stopped talk of a potential fight with the faltering Ferguson – claiming he would hate to see the Oxnard native “go out” against him.

“Anyone who can get out of their [UFC] contract, I’ll fight,” Jake Paul told assembled media after his win over the weekend. “That’s easy work, as far as I am concerned. I do want to do a PFL MMA match – it just has to be the right opponent. But Nate (Diaz) did duck my $15,000,000 offer, so we’ll see who else is on the chopping block.

“Tony Ferguson? He said he wanted to fight? I don’t want to see him go out like that – that would be sad,” Jake Paul explained. “He’s a great guy. We don’t want that for Tony.”

In the midst of a record-setting seven-fight losing skid inside the Octagon, The Ultimate Fighter victor and former interim lightweight kingpin, Ferguson most recently dropped a decision loss to Paddy Pimblett at UFC 296 back in December.
