Here we go with the first of three huge UFC weigh-ins this week, as Rafael dos Anjos and Eddie Alvarez do battle at UFC Fight Night 90. The Brazilian is coming off a first round TKO victory over Donald Cerrone in late 2015 and wants to put a stamp on his performance against the always game ex-Bellator boss Alvarez. Can the ‘Silent Assassin’ dislodge ‘RDA’ from the 155-pound throne? We’ll find out when they collide on July 7.

We’ve got a great co-main event to look forward to in the form of heavyweight knockout artists Derrick Lewis and Roy Nelson. Although now 40 years old, ‘Big Country’ can still pack a mean punch, but ‘The Beast’ is part of the next generation and faces his sternest test to date in Nelson. Joseph Duffy returns in a lightweight showdown with Mitch Clark, and there’s a host of other well known faces backing up the first of three big UFC events this week.

Reigning UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos has gone on a tear in recent years, and will look to make the second defense of his 155-pound strap against Eddie Alvarez this Thursday (July 7, 2016) in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The lightweight division has never been too forgiving towards its champions, and as the first Brazilian 155-pound title holder, dos Anjos has his eyes set on securing the most title defenses in divisional history:

“I’m looking to make history. Right now, I already made history because I’m the first Brazilian champion (at lightweight), first non-American. Now I’m looking forward to having the most title defenses. One more title defense and a lot more still to come,” dos Anjos told FOX Sports.

Dos Anjos will look to take the next step in his title reign when he faces off with the tough and gritty Alvarez later this week. The Philadelphia-born challenger has compiled back-to-back victories over the likes of Gilbert Melendez and Anthony Pettis, but dos Anos, who’s coming off of a 66-second demolition of Donald Cerrone, remains confident:

“I have confidence on it. I know I’ve got heavy hands and I think it will not be fun for him to come into this kind of fight with me,” dos Anjos said. “As you can see, he just knows how to fight like that. He gets hit a lot and he doesn’t like to get hit. Actually nobody likes that, I don’t like it either. I’m so confident in my hands, in my jiu-jitsu, in my wresting, I feel like I have 25 minutes to finish this fight.

“I’m an aggressive fighter, but I’m smart. I’m not going to play stupid. I’m going to go there like I did with Cerrone. I knew I had 25 minutes to win the fight, but I’m smart enough to see the gaps and see the opportunity to finish the fight.”

Do you see the Brazilian continuing his reign as champion at UFC Fight Night 90?

Eddie Alvarez: I’ll Knock Out Rafael Dos Anjos At UFC Fight Night 90

There were a lot of questions when former Bellator champion Eddie Alvarez left the promotion and joined the UFC. Alvarez has lived up the hype as he has won all of his UFC fights except a fight with Donald Cerrone. His success to win and make fights exciting has launched him into the title picture in the UFC. Now, Alvarez has a shot to capture UFC gold when he fights UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos at UFC Fight Night 90 next Thursday.

While on Tuesday’s media conference call, Alvarez spoke about the fight and feels that he can finish dos Anjos because of his high finishing ratio.

“I have a high finishing ratio and I feel like, if [dos Anjos] feels confident in his stand-up, then it could hurt him,” Alvarez said. “I feel like I can catch him if he gets over-aggressive and it can go bad quickly. So this is going to be highly explosive, violent from the very beginning.

“Everybody has weaknesses, everybody has holes,” Alvarez added. “I’m not the thinker in this equation. Mark Henry does all the thinking for me. I’m the performer. I just go out and fight, and Mark has found every hole, every weakness that Rafael has, and he has helped me move in ways that exploit everything that we need to get the win and come home with that gold belt. I’m going to attribute a lot of this to the brains of Mark Henry.”

When asked about having pressure on himself going into the fight, Alvarez went back to champion mindset and stated that this is not his first rodeo in a championship fight.

“There’s always pressure, but pressure is really about me putting the pressure on myself to perform at my peak, so I know how to go out there an do well,” Alvarez said. “It’s really about just going out there and performing like I do everyday in sparring and putting my best out there. When I do that, I beat everyone I fight. I beat champions my whole career.”

UFC Fight Night 90 takes place from Las Vegas, Nevada on July 7th and the event will air on UFC Fight Pass.
