Paddy Pimblett agrees to fight top ten lightweight at UFC 304 in Manchester: 'Send me the contract'

Paddy Pimblett has his sights set on a spot in the lightweight top ten.

After earning his seventh straight win with a victory over former interim champion Tony Ferguson in December, the Liverpudlian is primed for a return to the Octagon at UFC 304 when the promotion heads back to Manchester, England.

UFC 304

Though no official announcements have been made regarding Pimplett’s inclusion in the card or who he will face, all signs point toward a showdown with one of the hottest acts in the game today — Renato Moicano.

“I know Paddy Pimblett is saying my name a lot,” Moicano said on his podcast. “I’m going to make easy money off you in Manchester. If you want to see that fight, f*cking tag all the UFC, Dana White. Ask UFC for that fight because that’s going to happen” (h/t BloodyElbow).

It didn’t take long for ‘The Baddy’ to respond, telling the Brazilian to send over the contract and he’ll sign it in short order.

“Let’s do it then,” Pimblett replied on Instagram. “Send me the contract. I’ll sign it and have it back by tonight.”

Renato Moicano would be Paddy Pimblett’s toughest test to date

‘Money’ Moicano has won five of his last six fights inside the Octagon, his lone loss coming against former UFC champion Rafael dos Anjos. Moicano decisioned Drew Dober in February before making a quick turnaround at UFC 300 to score a second-round ground-and-pound TKO against Jalin Turner.

Renato Moicano

As for Pimblett, ‘The Baddy’ is riding an unbeaten streak dating back to his days under the Cage Warriors banner. He has been taking baby steps up in competition with each outing, besting Jordan Leavitt, Jared Gordon, and Tony Ferguson in his last three bouts — though his decision win over Gordon came with a heaping dose of controversy.

A victory over Moicano would not only propel Pimblett into the lightweight division top ten rankings, but it would also silence a lot of his critics who insist that the UFC is protecting him.

Paddy Pimblett has always been a target in the lightweight division, and after UFC 300, a few new faces are calling for a fight with ‘The Baddy’.

Riding a seven-fight win streak, including five UFC victories, Pimblett is still on an upward trajectory. While fans were sorely disappointed in his performance against Jared Gordon at UFC 282, ‘The Baddy’ had a decent bounce-back fight against the wizened legend Tony Ferguson.

Now, as the aftermath of UFC 300 unfolds, new fighters wish to try their luck against Pimblett and maybe even steal his shine. The Baddy’ is hip to this, though, and even explains this on his YouTube channel, where he responded to Bobby Green and Renato Moicano’s callouts from UFC 300.

Paddy Pimblett opens up about UFC 300 callouts and makes his intentions clear

While Paddy Pimblett won’t shy away from a fight with Bobby Green, he did make it pretty clear that he is much more interested in Renato Moicano as an opponent. It does make sense. While electric, Green is at the end of his prime, and a win over him won’t really justify the risk of a potential loss against the man.

Moicano, however, is a different story. While he would surely prove to be a more dangerous opponent, a loss against him wouldn’t look as bad as one at the hands of an aging Bobby Green. So, Pimblett would make his intentions clear in his video and set the stage for what will surely be an exciting fight.

“As you know, UFC 300, everybody wants a slice of ‘The Baddy,’” Paddy Pimblett began (H/T MMA Fighting). “Bobby Green screamed my name on the mic after it. Didn’t surprise me, know what I mean? He might be ranked, but he’s got no followers, and he needs me. Just like everyone else, they want to fight me because they know I’m the boy. Bobby Green’s an option. If Bobby Green wants to fight, I’m there.”

“I’d rather fight my boy, Moicano,” Paddy Pimblett continued. “Where you at, Renato? I don’t even dislike Renato Moicano. I actually like him. He’s a funny guy. He’s a cool dude. So me and him having a fight would be hilarious. The buildup to that fight would be very, very funny. I think it’d be even funnier if me and him done a season of The Ultimate Fighter.”

“That’d be six, seven, eight weeks of pure comedy for the fans. So I would — I’d love that, to be honest. And I’d rather go right in at rank 10 rather than beating rank 15.”

Paddy Pimblett would echo this sentiment, concluding that while the Moicano fight intrigues him, his primary focus at this point is fighting upwards and continuing to rise.

“But, next for me is someone, obviously. Hopefully, it’s someone in the top 15,” Pimblett said. “I don’t want to fight down. I want to be trying to fight up, I want to try and get ranked.”

Renato Moicano extended his streak to three in a row with a big win over Jalin Turner at UFC 300.

Moicano walked into his UFC 300 prelim bout as a moderate underdog, sitting at +200 against the heavily favored Turner. The oddsmakers were nearly proven right after Turner blasted Moicano with a nasty right hook that sent ‘Money’ crashing to the canvas. But instead of going in for the kill, Turner turned his back and walked away, believing Moicano was done.

Instead, referee Herb Dean allowed the fight to continue. Less than a round later, Moicano was victorious after taking Turner to the canvas and lighting him up with some fierce ground and pound.

Taking the microphone following his finish, Renato Moicano offered fans a word of advice on how to save their country from a looming economic crisis.

“I love private property, and let me tell you something,” Moicano said to the live crowd. “If you care about your f*cking country, read Ludwig Von Mises and the 6 lessons of the Austrian Economic School, motherf*ckers!”

For those unfamiliar, Ludwig von Mises was a prominent economist and one of the major figures in the Austrian School of Economics. You can learn more about that here.

Bit-Coin Rapid Fire podcast host John Vallis shared a clip of Moicano’s post-fight comment which then got the attention of Canadian psychologist and media commentator Jordan B. Peterson who remarked, “This is unspeakably great.”

“What a world,” Peterson added. “The satirists are Christian; the left shills for Big Pharma; and the deadly boxers have become profound economic philosophers.”

Getting wind of Peterson’s comments, Moicano showed his appreciation for the kind words from such a well-respected educator, writing:

“I can not believe Jordan Peterson the man himself retweeted this!!! Thank you so much doctor Peterson,” Moicano wrote. He followed that up with another post adding,”What a fucking world.”

Moicano has seen his popularity rise over the last year after delivering a series of viral post-fight speeches. Following his win over Brad Riddell, Moicano called for more money. When he decisioned Drew Dober, he expressed his love for the United States and voiced his desire to become an American citizen.

Oh, and he also vowed to get his wife pregnant upon his return home.

Despite not making it to the top-15, Pimblett finds himself on the receiving end of call outs from numerous 155lbers’, even those ranked above him. Now 5-0 under the UFC banner, it seems now that Pimblett will likely now have to take the step up in class and face someone in the top-15.

Should Paddy Pimblett vs. Renato Moicano be next?

Moicano is currently booked to face No.10 ranked Jalin Turner on the upcoming UFC 300 card. While this may seem like an obvious problem, if he comes out reasonably unscathed a late Sumer matchup against Pimblett can makes sense after either result.

If Moicano does lose, it’s unlikely that he will drop out of the top-15 and any number next to Pimblett’s name is all he needs out of his next outing.

Dan Hooker eyes June fight with UFC foe Renato Moicano I've dedicated my life to the smoke

Perennial lightweight contender, Dan Hooker has called for a June return to the Octagon later this year, welcoming the chance to stand opposite Brazilian favorite, Renato Moicano in his comeback to the UFC – warning the latter that he’s ready for all comers in his return.

Hooker, the current number ten ranked lightweight contender, has been sidelined since her featured at UFC 290 during International Fight Week back in July of last year, landing a close, come-from-behind decision win over Jalin Turner in a surefire Fight of the Year contender.

The victory came as New Zealand striker, Hooker’s second consecutively, with a prior win over Peruvian grappler, Claudio Puelles via a nasty body kick KO win returning the Kiwi to the winner’s enclosure following a two-fight losing skid.

And as for Moicano, the surging challenger is also himself in the midst of a two-fight winning spree, turned in a decision win over lightweight knockout kingpin, Drew Dober earlier this month – returning to the Octagon for the first time in two years following a submission win over Hooker’s compatriot, Brad Riddell.

Responding to a recent jibe from Moicano, Hooker warned the Brazilian that he’s more than ready to share the Octagon with him next – weighing up a potential showdown soon as June in his return to the UFC.

“Yeah I saw it today, I clicked on it – I called out (Renato) Moicano,” Dan Hooker told Sky Sports during a recent interview. “I just said, that’s gonna be a good fight and I’ve been a fan – he’s made a fan of me – not from his fights, laying on top of Drew Dober for three rounds doesn’t get me as a fan.”

“…He goes, ‘You don’t want the smoke,’” Dan Hooker explained. “I’m like, ‘Son, I’ve dedicated my life to the smoke.’ I said, of course we can fight, and we can fight in June, Moicano, me and you can get it down in June. How about that, brother?”
