Middleweight contender Darren Till say’s he’d happily accept a short-notice bout against former champion Robert Whittaker on Fight Island.

The pair are currently scheduled to meet at UFC Dublin in August. Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, it is now uncertain if the event will still take place in Ireland this summer.

UFC President Dana White is looking for alternative options to host events and has secured a private island to do so. It is currently getting the infrastructure put in place and White expects the island to be ready to go in a month.

Speaking on the Fight Disciples podcast Till said he’d be willing to fight on the island if the UFC calls and offers him Whittaker.

“Do I think I’ll fight?  I mean, yeah if they call it up and say, ‘Let’s do it. We’ve got the island open. We’ve agreed to it now. You’re going to be the fourth event against Whittaker.’ Yeah, I’ll fight. I can’t see any fights happening in the next three months. I don’t think we’ve even hit a proper lockdown yet. … Another few weeks and it’ll be one of them (orders) where you won’t be allowed to leave the house unless it’s essential.”

The thought of fighting with little or no crowd isn’t something which particularly worries Till. As long as he gets paid right and is given a little time to prepare he’s game.

“My ‘foe’ (Jorge) Masvidal put on Twitter,” Till said. “He said, ‘Fighting in front of no crowds, that’s new to do.’ He’s done it in backyards. Obviously, I’ve never been filmed fighting in backyards. I’ve done enough fighting on the street, mate. If they rung me and said, ‘Listen, you’re going to get paid as normal for a fight against Whittaker. You have a month to get ready.’ I’d stay sound, yeah. I’d run everyday to keep my weight down and go fight.

“It is what it is. I’d go in there with the mentality I’m not the fittest I’m going to be, whatever. I’m just going in there to slug it out. I think that’s the mentality that’d I’d have. So I’d do it, yeah. But will everyone else?” (Transcribed by MMA Junkie)

Former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker was expected to make his return to Octagon action at UFC 248 in March.

Whittaker was scheduled to face Jared Cannonier on the pay-per-view (PPV) card. However, “Bobby Knuckles” pulled from the event due to undisclosed personal reasons. Soon after, reports began to surface that Whittaker had actually pulled from the card because he is going to donate bone marrow to his ill daughter. Whittaker’s two-year-old daughter, Lilliana, is reportedly sick.

However, Whittaker has taken to Instagram to provide a brief update on his situation, calling out some false rumors that were going around about him. He didn’t mention the report going around about his daughter, however. Whittaker added that he’ll be back soon, stronger and better.

“Thanks everyone for all the support & well wishes, lots of false rumors out there so please ignore them. I have been off socials working with some personal matters and spending time with my family, i will back very soon, stronger & better than ever before. #alliswell #reapernation

Whittaker comes off a second-round knockout loss to Israel Adesanya in October, where he dropped the 185-pound title to his Nigerian foe. Prior to the loss, Whittaker was on a nine-fight win streak, which included wins over Uriah Hall, Derek Brunson, Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza, and two wins over Yoel Romero.

His bout with Adesanya was his first official title defense due to Romero missing weight in their second bout, making it a non-title contest. The 29-year-old sounds prepared to get back on track to the 185-pound title, perhaps eventually rematching Adesanya after what was a lopsided contest in their initial bout at UFC 243.

Former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker pulled out of his fight with Jared Cannonier to reportedly donate bone marrow to his daughter.

Whittaker was set to face Cannonier at UFC 248 on March 7 in Las Vegas. However, he recently pulled out for undisclosed personal reasons. “The Reaper” released a statement soon after where he apologized for withdrawing, and added that he needed time with his family and to refocus.

According to various reports, however, the reason behind his withdrawal is to donate bone marrow to his two-year-old daughter Lilliana who is currently sick. It should be noted that there is no real source behind the rumor as of yet.

However, it does go along with UFC president Dana White’s recent comments where he heaped praise on Whittaker’s character.

“That’s personal for Whittaker. If Whittaker wants to talk about that, he can,” White told Submission Radio of Whittaker’s withdrawal. “But I’ll tell you this, when you talk about somebody whose priorities are in the right place, who is completely selfless and down to the core a good human being, that’s Robert Whittaker.

“The reason Robert Whittaker is not fighting in this fight is one of the most unselfish things I’ve seen in my life. He’s a good man, he’s a good human being, and I have a lot of respect for him. Good luck to him in what he’s dealing with right now. I can’t put into words and articulate how I feel about Robert Whittaker. He’s the real deal, man.”

Whether it is true or not, hopefully everything goes well for Whittaker and his family in the next few months.
