What a statement making performance from Dana White’s Contender Series product, Andre ‘Sergipano’ Muniz. Headlining the preliminary portion of UFC 262, the upstart broke multiple time Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu world champion, Jacare Souza’s right arm with a late armbar attempt in the opening round.

Scoring the biggest victory of his professional career, the TATA Fight Team mainstay matched with compatriot, Souza to headline the promotion’s preliminary portion of UFC 262, hoping to extend his promotional perfect run to three straight fights.

Taking Souza’s back at the fence, Muniz rode too high as he attempted to secure his hooks and possibly set up a rear-naked choke, however, with Souza’s right arm trapped between Muniz’s arm and upper body, as the latter twisted and bellyed down on the canvas, an audible snap could be heard as Souza’s upper arm appeared to have broken.

Below, check out the highlights from Muniz’s submission stoppage of Jacare.

Stamp your middleweight papers within the top-fifteen middleweight rankings for sure, Kevin ‘The Trailblazer’ Holland. We’ve seen upkick knockouts as of recent times in the UFC, but tonight’s knockout of Jacare Souza from the bottom for Holland seems something entirely unfamiliar.

It’s five straight for the Travis Lutter Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, and what a statement to make against someone of Jacare’s stature.

Starting the opening exchange with a wild, winging overhand, Holland was taken down by the former Strikeforce middleweight best, before scrambling back to guard and unleashing some massive elbows. Creating some separation on the feet, Jacare managed to push Holland back to the fence, with the latter again landing some nasty elbows.

Speaking with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu World Champion, Jacare, Holland joked before creating some space, before landing a massive right hand from the bottom, before following up with a barrage of strikes to a severly rocked Souza.

Immediately afterward, Holland claimed he had no plans to leave Las Vegas — calling for a stunning December 19th. turnaround against fellow standout, Khamzat Chimaev.

Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza is not done at 205 pounds, despite his return to middleweight to face Uriah Hall at UFC 249 in April.

Souza dropped a decision loss to Jan Blachowicz at UFC Sao Paulo this past November in his light heavyweight debut. Now, he’ll return to middleweight, but according to his coach, Josuel Distak, who recently spoke to MMA Fighting, Souza will continue to fight at both weight classes moving forward.

“‘Jacare’ will continue fighting in both divisions,” Distak said. “He will do special fights at 205, and go after the belt at 185. We still dream about fighting for the Ultimate Fighting belt. ‘Jacare’ still has that dream, and it’s hard to stop someone that has a dream. That’s our goal, to fight in both divisions. Wherever the exciting fights are, that’s where we’re going.”

As for his performance against Blachowicz, Distak says there’s no doubt in his mind Souza should’ve been given the nod for the split decision win. He feels his fighter was the more aggressive combatant on the night, and doesn’t believe Blachowicz wanted to fight.

“He fought well against a guy that was knocking everyone out,” Distak said. “(Blachowicz) did not want to fight ‘Jacare’. It was a split decision, and I thought we won that fight. It was a close, technical fight, but ‘Jacare’ was more aggressive. There’s no doubt in my mind that Ronaldo won that fight.”

What do you think about Souza fighting at both middleweight and light heavyweight?
