Rousimar Palhares massively missed weight for his latest bout.

We already knew Palhares was absolutely huge. The hulking, controversial grappler has confirmed that. Palhares missed weight by an alarming margin for his headliner against Craig Jones at today’s Kasai Pro 3 in New York.

The fight was originally slated to be a 185-pound no-gi grappling match. It was changed to a 200-pound bout due to Palhares stating he could only make that weight. “Toquinho” appeared overly massive on social media last week.

That wasn’t the end of his issues, however.

The fight moved on with at an openweight when Palhares weighed in at 218 pounds. Jones, meanwhile, was 13.4 pounds lighter than his opponent. The bout is a submission-only match-up that lasts 10 minutes. Confusion arose when Palhares told MMA Fighting he thought the fight had no weight limit.

Jones agreed to proceed. Kasai officials also told MMA Fighting that a communication problem with Palhares’ team lead to the confusion.

Former World Series of Fighting (WSOF) welterweight champion Rousimar Palhares is huge.

The disgraced and controversial grappling wiz has seen better days in his MMA career. “Toquinho” has lost three of his last five fights by T/KO. He’ll return to compete in his beloved grappling soon when he meets rising star Craig Jones at KASAI Pro 3.

When he does, it appears that the hulking Brazilian will be bigger than ever. This photo recently surfaced on social media of Palhares looking simply massive:

The leglock specialist revealed he weighs 212 pounds, telling MMA Fighting he isn’t concerned with all the hate he expectedly received:

“People say whatever they want to try to diminish your work, so that doesn’t bother me at all.”

Palhares was infamously released from WSOF after he eye gouged Jake Shields and held onto a kimura for too long. He’s been fighting overseas ever since.

He’s planning to stop cutting down to welterweight due to the fact his results have been less than stellar recently. Palhares said the weight cut was nearly killing him.

The photo shown above would support that theory.

Disgraced former UFC competitor and World Series of Fighting (WSOF) welterweight champion Rousimar Palhares continues to have trouble finding success in his fighting career outside the United States.

Earlier today (March 30, 2018) ‘Paul Harris’ faced off with undefeated Aliaskhab Khizriev for the interim title at Fight Nights Global 85 in Russia, and the result was another brutal loss for the controversial Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist. Only Khizriev could win the belt, however, as the always controversial Palhares missed weight.

Khizriev dropped Palhares with a head kick early and followed him to the ground with a relentless onslaught of punches, but true to form Palhares responded with his trademark leglock attempts, tying up his opponent in an awkward position. He even went for a takedown attempt but was put into a fight-ending spot when he slipped as Khizriev rained down a final torrent of ground shots to leave Palhares cold on the mat only 58 seconds into the fight.

It was the disgraced submission wiz’s third knockout loss in his last five fights after being released from WSOF for holding onto a kimura on Jake Shields.

The obstacles facing any fighter hoping to achieve fame and fortune in the sport of mixed martial arts (MMA) are truly daunting.

Compiling a consistent winning record and steering clear of serious injuries while waiting for a shot at the big leagues that may never come is hard enough, but with there being almost no money in the sport at the regional level, just keeping a roof over their heads can be a constant struggle for any up-and-coming fighter.

With that in mind it’s little wonder that many prospects have given up long before they ever got close to fulfilling their dreams.

Even some of MMA’s biggest stars have found themselves at that same crossroad in their career, and as you’ll read in the pages that follow, in many cases they came alarmingly close to throwing in the towel for good, unaware that success was waiting just around the corner.
