Ultimate Fighting Championship stars Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz are reportedly on a collision course to stage their much-anticipated rematch at UFC 200 on July 9.

According to Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting.com, the two will clash once again in a non-title welterweight fight, which would hand The Notorious his chance at redeeming himself following a shock second-round defeat to Diaz at UFC 196.

Featherweight duo Frankie Edgar and Jose Aldo have been vying for their shots at McGregor if he were to drop back down in weight, but it’s reported a second bout between the Irishman and Diaz is almost finalised.

McGregor entered his UFC 196 bout opposite Diaz as a firm favourite, with Rafael Dos Anjos having been forced out of his scheduled fight with The Notorious due to a broken foot.

Despite taking the fixture on with just 11 days notice, Diaz shocked the mixed martial arts masses by submitting McGregor via a rear-naked choke in the second round. It was the Irishman’s first defeat in the UFC.

It wasn’t long after that loss that The Notorious expressed his desire to set up a rematch with Diaz, however, and he told TMZ he’d be back “with a vengeance,” (h/t David St. Martin of MMAFighting.com):

I’m ready to go again. I had a great time. It was a good fight, a hell of a fight. I look forward to coming back with a vengeance.

I think I’d like to see that, yea? I mean, it’s one that interests me, most certainly. You know, when I look at the fight, I was winning the fight. I won the first round and a half, I feel. I’d love to get that one back. We’ll see how it goes. Money talks. Life is good.

Having lost that duel at the welterweight limit of 170 pounds, the general consensus was that McGregor would move back closer to featherweight, where he stills reigns as division champion.

However, it appears as though he’s ready to ignore a potential rematch opposite Aldo, whom he knocked out after 13 seconds at UFC 194, as well as Edgar, who has actively been chasing a date opposite the Irishman:

Redemption against Diaz seems to ride as the highest priority in McGregor’s mind, though, and the report that this bout will again come at welterweight shows the 27-year-old is adamant to embrace his heavier frame.

Diaz appeared at the UFC 196 post-fight press conference sporting a selection of scars earned during the biggest win of his career, but he insisted the jump in weight had nothing to with McGregor’s loss, per Spanish daily AS:

For The Notorious, the reported rematch will be about little else other than revenge as he goes about proving to the mixed martial arts world that he is indeed good enough to accomplish the feat he set out to achieve.

However, Bleacher Report’s Patrick Wyman questioned the UFC’s decision to book this fight as reported, with other options on the table for both fighters:

While the status of the tie may be limited by the fact no belt rests on the line, there’s still a great deal of intrigue involved, not least of which is the potential risk of the ever-confident McGregor seeing his ego hit once again.

Diaz will hope to ensure that isn’t the only thing struck come July 9, and the welterweight regular may feel even more confident ahead of a rematch, where he’d be given the benefit of a full training camp.

Rumor: WWE and TapouT to Announce Exclusive Sponsorship Deal

(Not Exactly as Real as It Gets, But Pretty Damn Real, Relatively Speaking!!™ / Photo via WWE.com)

According to a wild claim from sports gossip blog TerezOwens, TapouT is preparing to announce a deal with the WWE, in which the lifestyle brand will serve as the exclusive sponsor for the WWE’s talent roster, similar to Reebok’s uniform deal with the UFC.

I know what you’re thinking: What does the world’s leading producer of novelty children’s beds have to do with professional wrestling? Obviously, TapouT was a ubiquitous presence in MMA beginning in the late ’90s, but the company’s reputation has faded in the wake of Charles Lewis’s death, assorted legal hassles, and a flood of competitors. Could TapouT really be transitioning to the WWE universe, in order to reach a brand new sub-demographic of douchebags?

At this point, the only official comment from FrontRowBrian is “stock will plunge.” We’re not sure if he’s referring to the WWE’s stock or TapouT’s stock. Probably both. We’ll keep you posted as soon as this rumor is confirmed/debunked.

Anderson Silva to Earn Middleweight Title Shot With UFC 183 Win Over Nick Diaz

(Anderson Silva, posing in front of Jon Jones’s coffee table.)

Former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva is three weeks away from his fun little circus-fight against Nick Diaz at UFC 183, and if he wins, the UFC will give the Spider another chance to get his middleweight title back. UFC president Dana White revealed the plan last night on FOX Sports 1’s UFC Tonight:

Diaz and Anderson Silva are fighting, and obviously if Anderson Silva wins that fight, and whether Vitor or Weidman win, then you have Anderson Silva versus either one of those guys,” White said.

“Obviously” is not the word I would have used here. For one thing, beating a semi-retired welterweight in a tune-up fight shouldn’t clinch anybody a middleweight title shot, even Anderson Silva. And also, what if Chris Weidman beats Vitor Belfort at UFC 184 next month (a likely scenario now that Belfort is totally off his meds)? Is anybody clamoring for a third fight between Silva and Weidman, outside of the Spider Superfans who remain convinced that the knockout and the broken leg were both “flukes”?

Keep in mind that middleweight contenders Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza and Yoel Romero — both of whom are still undefeated in the UFC — will be sluggin’ it out at UFC 184. Anderson Silva may be an “obvious” money-maker, but shouldn’t the Jacare/Romero winner be the rightful owner of the next middleweight title shot?

Report: Rampage Jackson Signs With the UFC, But Is Still Under Contract at Bellator

Quinton “Rampage” Jackson has returned to the UFC, according to a report from Sherdog.

Rampage had criticized the UFC and Dana White on multiple occasions after leaving the Zuffa-owned organization for Bellator.

Like with every single failed business relationship Rampage has ever been in, it started off amicably. Rampage even said he was “tongue kissing” with Bellator.

Quinton “Rampage” Jackson has returned to the UFC, according to a report from Sherdog.

Rampage criticized the UFC and Dana White on multiple occasions after leaving the Zuffa-owned organization for Bellator.

Like with every single failed business relationship Rampage has ever been in, it started off amicably. Rampage even said he was “tongue kissing” with Bellator.

Things changed after Bjorn Rebney‘s departure from Bellator. Scott Coker became president, prompting Rampage to eventually tweet “sometimes u [sic] should just stay with the devil you know,” in reference to the UFC.

Clearly, Rampage wasn’t happy.

But there’s one problem: He’s still under contract to Bellator. The Sherdog report confirmed this. MMA journalist Josh Gross reached out to Coker, who said Rampage was still under contract.

Maybe we’re going to see a trade? After all, Bellator had their eyes on Wanderlei Silva recently.

If not, perhaps the UFC is going to be embroiled in yet another legal battle in the near future.

More updates as we get them.

Scott Coker Denies Rumors That Gina Carano Has Signed With Bellator

(No man has ever escaped Gina’s mount. Of course, no man has ever *tried* to escape it, but still, that’s an impressive stat. / Photo via Collider)

Yesterday, Bellator middleweight Brian Rogers alerted his friends, fans, and haters that Bellator would be making a “major fight announcement” today. This came on the heels of a rumor-tweet from Hector Castro suggesting that Gina Carano and Marloes Coenen had signed with Bellator. Naturally, we freaked out.

Sadly, the official line from Bellator is that Carano has not signed with the organization. Via Ariel:

Indeed. MMA fans still love Gina — but most of us recognize that sacrificing her to Ronda Rousey for a meaningless yet profitable UFC title fight is a joke on multiple levels. Still, what if Carano took a couple fights in Bellator against some lower-level competition? You’d watch that too, right? And the sudden appearance of Gina Carano in Bellator could create a competitive frenzy between the UFC and Bellator that would be pretty damn entertaining to watch unfold. So yes, we want to believe.

We’ll update you when Bellator’s actual major fight announcement is revealed. Don’t get your hopes up.
