MMA Union supporter Kajan Johnson announced his UFC release in an emotional Instagram post.

It seemed like a foregone conclusion as Johnson constantly spoke out against the UFC’s controversial business practices.

And today, Johnson confirmed that his four-year run with the UFC had indeed come to an end.

“It is with sadness in my heart that I say farewell to the UFC. I spent the majority of my life trying to get in and once I was in I did it my way. I accomplished my dreams and did what I could to effect change within a system that greatly needs it, I am grateful for the blessings and the lessons that I was given and shown in these last 4 years and am truly a better man and fighter because of them. To all those that believed supported me, thank you, I love you. To all those that hated on me and motivated me, thank you, I love you, to whatever awaits me next, I am ready, let’s go! ” – Kajan Johnson

A Bittersweet Ending

Johnson recently competed at UFC Moscow where he dropped a split decision loss to Rustam Khabilov. The bout marked the end of his four-fight contract, and apparently, it was not renewed, perhaps due to his unionization efforts.  Johnson had previously stated that he had hoped to fight out his contract in hopes of re-signing with the UFC.

UFC President Dana White and Johnson had a contentious relationship. After all, Johnson is the interim vice-president of Project Spearhead and an outspoken fighter advocate. Which made Johnson’s actions at the UFC Calgary weigh-ins that much more puzzling.

Watch Johnson’s handshake prank on Dana White:

Prior to his last two losses, “Ragin” Kajan was riding high on a four-fight win streak. At 34 years old it would seem this Tristar-trained fighter still has some fight left in him.

If Johnson decides to pursue other avenues he can always focus on his true passion of music, as Johnson is an aspiring musician in his own right.

As far as the UFC goes, he was on a short leash.

A pair of veteran lightweights will square off this September in Germany, as Rustam Khabilov meets Reza Madadi at UFC Fight Night 93.

Khabilov (19-3) has scored back-to-back decision victories over Norman Parke and Chris Wade to improve his Octagon mark to 5-2. The Dagestan fighter won his first three UFC fights before a loss to former champion Benson Henderson.

Madadi (14-4) made a triumphant return after an extended hiatus due to outside-the-Octagon issues last month, defeating Yan Cabral to improve to 3-2 with the UFC.

Three Fights To Make For ‘Mr. Finland’ After Decision Victory

Makwan Amirkhani (13-2) defeated Mike Wilkinson (9-2) by unanimous decision on Saturday in London at UFC Fight Night: Silva vs. Bisping. Amirkhani used his bread and butter of wrestling and grappling to grind out the three round decision victory.

Mr. Finland beat a tough Mike Wilkinson who had only lost once in his MMA career. Amirkhani is now 3-0 inside the Octagon and will be looking getting a fight that would propel him into the top 15 of the Featherweight division. Here are three potential fighters Amirkhani could face next.

Doo Ho Choi (13-1): Like Makwan Amirkhani, Doo Ho Choi is another top prospect of the Featherweight division. Choi is 2-0 in the UFC and won both of his fights with early 1st round TKO’s. The prospect vs. prospect bout could be intriguing and determine who is ready to fight with the top tier of the UFC.

Rustam Khabilov (18-3): Rustam Khabilov also on Saturday’s card and beat Norman Parke by unanimous decision. Before his win over Parke, the Russian was out for a year due to visa issues. Stylistically this could the most interesting matchup in Amirkhani’s UFC career since Khabilov’s strength is also in his wrestling. Both fighters like to take the fight to the canvass and use ground-and-pound and top positions.

Thiago Tavares (20-6-1): Tavares is a UFC veteran. The 31 year-old is 10-6-1 inside the Octagon. He holds notable wins over Manvel Gamburyan, Sam Stout, and Clay Guida. This fight could be an interesting matchup for Amirkhani, since the outspoken fighter has not yet fought a guy that is a seasoned veteran like Tavares. A win over a well-known Tavares could get him into the top 15 of the UFC and bolster his resume.
