UFC featherweight Ryan Hall’s planned return to the Octagon will have to wait after revealing he recently tore his ACL.

Hall last fought last December at UFC 269, earning a unanimous decision win over Darrick Minner. He had planned on a return to the UFC later this year in an attempt to move closer to a spot in the rankings.

But Hall is now on the road to recovery after suffering a significant leg injury while training, and he’ll now have to postpone his return.

Hall announced that he recently underwent ACL surgery in a post on his Instagram page.

“6th surgery in 14 months today. Not sure who has my voodoo doll, but if they could stop stabbing it, I would really appreciate that,” Hall said. “Had just agreed to a fight on August 13th, but a bit of bad luck in training resulted in a complete tear of my ACL.

“Started the year really hoping to fight a bunch in 2022, as well as compete at ADCC, but with the recovery being what it is, that won’t be in the cards. I’m very grateful to have the best group of friends and family I could ever hope for supporting me during this time. I know that, with their help, I’ll be able to work hard and grow through the experience.

“Now that we’re on the other side of the procedure, can’t wait to get to work in rehab and be back better than ever in the early part of 2023.”

Before a first-round knockout loss to Ilia Topuria last July, Hall had been on a roll with four-straight wins. His victories came against the likes of Darren Elkins and BJ Penn after a successful run on The Ultimate Fighter: Season 22.

Hall will now look ahead to a return to the Octagon next year as he plans on fully recovering from his ACL tear.

Ryan Hall will be competing again before the end of the year.

As per MMA Junkie, Hall has agreed to a featherweight bout with Darrick Minner at the UFC 267 pay-per-view event taking place December 11.

Bout agreements are expected to be signed with an official announcement soon after.

Hall will be looking to return to the win column after suffering his first UFC defeat. The grappling wizard was knocked out in the first round of his featherweight contest with Ilia Topuria at UFC 264 back in July. It halted an eight-fight winning streak for Hall who was previously looking to climb the rankings and enter title contention.

He will have to go back to the drawing board against the unranked Minner who is coming off a TKO defeat to Darren Elkins in July. He was on a two-fight winning streak prior to that setback.

With the addition of this bout, here is how UFC 269 currently looks:

  • Amanda Nunes vs. Julianna Pena – women’s bantamweight title
  • Brandon Moreno vs. Deiveson Figueiredo – flyweight title
  • Randy Costa vs. Tony Kelley
  • Cody Garbrandt vs. Kai Kara-France
  • Priscila Cachoeira vs. Gillian Robertson
  • Maycee Barber vs. Montana De La Rosa
  • Dricus Du Plessis vs. Andre Muniz
  • Alex Perez vs. Matt Schnell
  • Ryan Hall vs. Darrick Minner

Former Brave CF and Cage Warriors feature, Ilia ‘El Matador’ Topuria remains undefeated and improves his professional mixed martial arts record to 11-0 — stopping the tricky grappler, Ryan Hall with late ground strikes in the opening round of their UFC 264 clash.

Improving to 3-0 in the UFC, Georgian native, Topuria debuted with a unanimous decision win over Youssef Zalal before lodging an impressive knockout win over Damon Jackson back in December of last year.

Meeting with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu ace, Hall, who more often than not incorporates an elusive, really unorthodox style — Topuria avoided Imanari rolls and heel hook attempts from Hall in the opening round, before scoring a late knockout victory after weaving through guard and laying down a flurry of strikes to a grounded Hall.

Below, catch the highlights from Topuria stoppage win over Hall.

Featherweight prospect Ilia Topuria will face his first big test in Ryan Hall.

As per a report from Adjarasport, Topuria will face Hall in the UFC’s upcoming July 10 event. Nothing is official yet, but if true, a fight announcement should be expected soon.

Topuria is 2-0 since joining the UFC in 2020. His most recent outing saw him get an impressive knockout win over Damon Jackson. In Hall, the undefeated Georgian will face a major step up in competition.

For Hall, it’s the opposite as he has long clamored for a ranked opponent only to complain of being ducked. He was finally set to face fellow contender Dan Ige earlier this month only to pull out of the fight due to a hip flexor injury. The American’s last outing came in July 2019 when he outpointed Darren Elkins.

Having had to pull out of his fights on a number of occasions, it looks like the UFC had no choice but to offer him an unranked opponent.

That said, Topuria is far from an easy test and this should be a good indicator of how far he can go in this stacked featherweight division.
