The Bellator Welterweight Grand Prix tournament bracket is officially set and will kick off at Bellator 206 on September 29, 2018.

Earlier today (Aug. 6, 2018) Bellator announced the bracket seedings for the welterweight GP via Instagram. But the news didn’t stop there, as they announced Paul Daley as one of the eight men involved in the tournament.

Daley’s participation was in question due to his ongoing contract issues with the promotion, but now that is all squared away, Daley is in.

The bracket breaks down as such:

One one side of the bracket Michael “Venom” Page (13-0) will take on fellow Brit Paul “Semtex” Daley (40-16-2) in a grudge match years in the making. Joining them on that side of the bracket are two former champions in Douglas “The Phenom” Lima (29-7) and Andrey “The Spartan” Koreshkov (21-2).

On the other side of the bracket waits reigning welterweight champion Rory “Red King” MacDonald (20-4) defending his belt against Jon Fitch (31-7-1). The winner of that bout will take on either Neiman Gracie (8-0) or fellow unbeaten prospect “EZ” Ed Ruth (6-0).

It seems Scott Coker has thought this Grand Prix out well after all this isn’t his first rodeo. Yaroslav Amasov (20-0) will fight Lorenz “The Monsoon” Larkin (19-7) with the winner earning the coveted alternate spot should one of the eight participants be unable to compete. It should be noted that reigning UFC double champ Daniel “DC” Cormier won the Strikeforce heavyweight GP as an alternate.

All fights are expected to be five-round affairs regardless of where and when they take place on the card. Perhaps the most interesting thing about this tournament is that the welterweight title will be up for grabs a total of three times. So, in theory, we could see a new 170-pound champion be crowned three more times in 2018.

The welterweight GP kicks off Sept. 29 at Bellator 206 with Daley vs. Page; the event will be the first on the streaming platform DAZN.

Paul Daley Calls Out Michael Page After Signing New Deal

Not only has Paul “Semtex” Daley signed a new multi-fight, multi-year deal with Bellator, but the brash Brit will be competing in the welterweight world grand prix as well.

The resigning of Daley was something that didn’t seem possible just a few short weeks ago, as the hard-hitting welterweight had some harsh words for President Scott Coker following his loss to Jon Fitch at Bellator 199 earlier this year.

It appears both Coker and Daley have buried the hatchet in the interest of making money.

Speaking to MMAjunkie earlier today, Coker would not specify on who “Semtex” would be fighting in the first round of the grand prix, but he did reiterate that Daley would, in fact, be apart of the tournament as the tenth official combatant. His manager Ali Adbelaziz told MMA Fighting that he hopes Daley will fight Michael “Venom” Page after a long, bad blood-filled backstory between the two British knockout specialists:

“This is who me and Paul want to fight, and who the fans want to see fight, “Abdelaziz said. “I’m so honored to be part of this, and I have no doubt Paul to going to knock him the f*ck out.”

The welterweight world grand prix is set to kick off Sept. 29 in San Jose, Calif. The event will be the first to take place on new streaming platform DAZN. The 170-pound tournament is coming together nicely. Here is the list of fighters that have already been officially announced to take part in the tournament:

Rory MacDonald

Lorenz Larkin

Ed Ruth

Paul Daley

Jon Fitch

Douglas Lima

Andrey Koreshkov

Yaroslav Amosov.

Michael Page

Neiman Gracie

Seven Potential Replacements For Dana White

Check out seven possible replacements the UFC could hire for Dana White:

The post Seven Potential Replacements For Dana White appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

Nothing lasts forever, and even the mighty Dana White will one day step down as the president and face of the UFC.

Love him or hate him, White has been at the helm of the combat sports giant since Zuffa purchased it back in January of 2001. Under White’s leadership, the UFC has grown into a multi-billion dollar, global phenomenon, and the unquestioned leader of mixed martial arts (MMA).

That’s not to say White hasn’t ruffled a few feathers along the way, a career that spans more than 15 years is bound to challenge the status quo. Brash and unapologetic at times, and at other times brutally honest, inconsistency has been the only constant in White’s run as UFC president.

When Zuffa sold the Ultimate Fighting Championship to the William Morris Endeavor in 2016 for $4.2 billion, many people questioned whether White would also part ways with the company he helped build. He obviously has not; however, as of late people have started to notice that White seems increasingly disinterested and at times flippant.

With that in mind, we explored the MMA universe to bring you seven possible replacements for White. Enjoy.

Chael Sonnen

If you saw this one coming, give yourself a pat on the back because you, my friend, have a keen MMA eye. Sonnen is perhaps the most obvious choice to fill White’s shoes, and maybe best suited to follow such an act.

If “The American Gangster” did have ambitions of reigning over the UFC, he would first need to be released from his existing Bellator contract, which most likely would not be an issue considering the kinship between himself and Scott Coker.

The more practical sticking point may be the incredible freedom the Viacom owned promotion bestows on Chael. Would he really want to trade his relatively light workload with big bucks, for a back-breaking work schedule with comparable pay?

Scott Coker Reveals Target Date For Fedor Emelianenko vs. Chael Sonnen

Scott Coker has revealed the timeline for the upcoming Chael Sonnen vs. Fedor Emelianenko bout.

Scott Coker has revealed the timeline for the upcoming Chael Sonnen vs. Fedor Emelianenko bout.

This fight will serve as a semifinal bout in the ongoing Bellator MMA heavyweight tournament that will crown a new champion in the division.

As seen in the main event of the Bellator 198 event at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois on the Paramount Network, the MMA Legend finished former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir with strikes in the first round of their Bellator Heavyweight Grand Prix Quarterfinal bout.

On the flip side, Sonnen was able to pick up a decision win over former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton Jackson at Bellator 192 at The Forum in Inglewood, California in January to forward in the tournament.

Now, the MMA Legend and former middleweight and light heavyweight contender are slated to fight each other.

According to Bellator MMA President, they’re looking at mid-October for this semifinal bout to happen.

“We’re trying to keep it in close proximity,” Coker told MMAjunkie. “I want both of the semifinals to happen close together.”

The other semifinal bout that is slated to take place as part of this tournament will see Matt Mitrione take on Ryan Bader.

Coker did note that it’s possible those fights could be staged on back-to-back nights with the idea of one fight airing on a Friday night on the Paramount Network while the other one would be exclusive to DAZN on Saturday night.

It’s well known that the Viacom-owned promotion recently signed a five-year broadcast deal with the subscription streaming service that plans to launch in September.
