Triller could be facing sanctions soon, as they reportedly still haven’t paid Sergey Kovalev, and other fighters.

According to a report from boxing insider Dan Rafael, Triller still owes money to its top performers from their TrillerVerz 5 show on May 14. Sergey Kovalev and Tervel Pulev are still owed their purses for their headlining clash.

Kovalev came out of a three-year hiatus to hand Pulev the first loss of his career via unanimous decision.

The two weren’t paid on fight night, with Triller Fight Club President David Tetreault asking for an extension, which was an agreed upon date of May 31.

However, Triller still missed the payment deadline. It should also be noted that Pulev’s brother, Kubrat, also hasn’t been paid for his fight, which took place in the co-headlining spot. His opponent, Jerry Forrest, has only been “partially paid.”

According to the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC), Kovalev is due a purse of $500,000, Tervel Pulev $195,454, Kubrat Pulev $204,545 and Forrest $140,000.

However, each fighter’s respective deals also included side agreements where they would be paid even more money. Kovalev and Pulev’s promoters are now seeking interest on the due payments.

The CSAC are aware of the situation and “could take measures to suspend Triller from putting on events in the state.” This could be devastating for Triller, who only started up in 2020.

What do you think about Triller not yet having paid its fighters, and the potential sanctions they’re facing? Sound off in the comments!

Last night (Sat. November 2, 2019) was huge for combat sports fans. The UFC 244 pay-per-view (PPV) card, arguably the most stacked of the year thus far, took place from Madison Square Garden.

Also, Canelo Alvarez jumped up to light heavyweight to challenge Sergey Kovalev. However, prior to the two shows starting, DAZN announced that they wouldn’t start their Alvarez vs. Kovalev main event until after the UFC 244 main event between Masvidal and Diaz concluded. However, the DAZN card’s co-main event didn’t end until halfway through the UFC 244 co-main event between Darren Till and Kelvin Gastelum.

This would mean a lengthy intermission for both DAZN viewers at home, as well as those live in attendance. So, the MGM Grand called up UFC president Dana White to ask if they could play the Masvidal vs. Diaz fight for its restless crowd. White explained the situation in the UFC 244 post-fight press conference. (H/T Bloody Elbow)

“So we were sitting there, and MGM called and said that. ‘you guys are halfway through your co-main event right now,” White said. “People are losing their minds here,’ or whatever. ‘Can we show the Diaz fight at the MGM?’”

“And I was just like, ‘Holy sh-t! This is crazy! This is getting crazier by the minute!’ I woke up and dreamed all this, that it could happen,” he continued. “It was nuts. And of course, we said yes, and they did and wow.”

White then took the opportunity to take a shot at Golden Boy Promotions promoter and newfound enemy Oscar De La Hoya, who the UFC boss called a “scumbag,” amongst other things.

“They’re not showing my main event at their cards because somebody won and somebody lost,” White said. “It’s a much bigger picture than that. And you guys know how I am or whatever, I f—ng hate Oscar De La Hoya. I hate this guy. He’s a scumbag, he’s a snake. And I’ve told him not to go on this night, he did what he wanted to do, and here we are.

“I respect Canelo, and I respect all the other fighters and the guys who participate in the sport of boxing,” White added. “And we got it worked out yesterday to where fans could see both fights. It’s a crazy, crazy thing for me.”

What do you think about White allowing the MGM Grand to play Masvidal vs. Diaz at Canelo vs. Kovalev?

Tonight is a huge night for combat sports. Aside from the massive UFC 244 card, a tremendous WBO light heavyweight title fight will take place between Canelo Alvarez and Sergey Kovalev after the UFC card ends.

Alvarez will be jumping up another division to challenge for yet another title. The Mexican boxing megastar has only lost once in his career, that being to Floyd Mayweather early in his run as a professional, but will take on a very game opponent in Kovalev (34-3-1). The action goes down from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Kovalev is on a two-fight win streak since suffering a seventh-round TKO loss to Eleider Álvarez, a loss he has since avenged. Handing Alvarez the first loss of his career since 2013, at 36-years-old, would be a massive feat for the longtime light heavyweight champion. ESPN has released the full salaries for those involved in the Alvarez vs. Kovalev card.

Canelo Alvarez and Sergey Kovalev is scheduled for tomorrow night as well, where the Mexican boxing star jumps up to light heavyweight to take on Kovalev for the WBO title. Many combat sports fans were worried they wouldn’t be able to watch both. However, DAZN has announced that Canelo vs. Kovalev won’t start until after the Masvidal vs. Diaz main event ends.

DAZN EVP of North America Joe Markowski released the following statement to MMA Fighting.

“We saw Dana’s comments about staggering the start times, and we completely agreed. It’s a huge night for combat sports fans, and they should be able to see both main events live. It was an easy decision.”

With this, Alvarez vs. Kovalev should have a start time of around 1:00 a.m. ET tomorrow night. The action goes down from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. It will be a great way to end an already stacked night of combat sports.
