The UFC are back on the road this weekend, as they make the trip to Orlando with one of the most stacked Fight Night cards of the year.

A welterweight clash between Stephen Thompson and Kevin Holland takes centerstage, although Tai Tuivasa vs. Sergei Pavlovich and RDA vs. Bryan Barberena are also fights that draw the eye.

Join us at LowKickMMA as we give our top 3 bets for UFC Fight Night: Thompson vs. Holland!

Thompson vs. Holland O2.5

Our first bet will be to take the over 2 and a half rounds in the main event between Stephen Thompson and Kevin Holland.

This fight will likely be a stand-up match, which may lead one to think that the likelihood of a KO finish is high. However, Stephen Thompson is an elite elusive striker, able to get in and out of range with the skills accumulated from a lifetime of training in karate.

Kevin Holland does have KO power, but Thompson’s distance management should be enough to avoid ‘Trailblazer’s’ shots, early on at least. Holland is also very durable and will be able to take everything ‘Wonderboy’ throws at him.

Betway has the Over 2.5 priced at 1.72. If you wish to get even better odds, parlaying it with Tuivasa vs. Pavlovich to go under 2.5 rounds may be a good idea.

Emily Ducote by Dec

Next, we are taking Emily Ducote to win via decision vs. Angela Hill.

Emily Ducote made her UFC debut earlier this year at UFC on ABC 3: Ortega vs. Rodriguez, where she dominated Jessica Penne over three rounds, utilizing a heavy leg kick game plan. This fight with Angela Hill will be tougher, but Ducote still has all the skills necessary to pick up a win.

Hill is now 37 years old and is 1-3 in her last 4 fights – with each one going to decision. Ducote is the rising prospect in this matchup and has the edge in both power and physicality. She should be able to pick up at least two rounds and claim a solid decision win.

Betway has Emily Ducote to win via decision priced at 2.30.

Marc Diakiese & Jonathan Pearce Parlay

Our final bet is a parlay of Marc Diakiese & Jonathan Pearce’s ML bets – the two locks of the night from the LowKickMMA UFC Fight Night: Thompson vs. Holland Preview & Betting Guide.

Marc Diakiese takes on Michael Johnson, in a fight where he has all the tools to win. Johnson is a skilled veteran but is massively lacking when it comes to his ground game. Whilst Diakiese was once known as one of the most dynamic strikers in the division, as of late, he has switched his focus to that of a wrestling game. Look for ‘Bonecrusher’ to dominate Johnson for the entirety of the fight – just as he did to Damir Hadžovi? and Viacheslav Borshchev.

Jonathan Pearce takes on Darren Elkins. Pearce has all the skills to run through the 38-year-old Elkins, who is now 3-5 in his last 8. Pearce is extremely dangerous when in top control, having finished the likes of Makwan Amirkhani, Omar Morales and Kai Kamaka III – look for him to get a late TKO finish over ‘The Damage.’

A Pearce and Diakiese ML parlay bet is priced at 1.53 on Betway.

Stephen Thompson

UFC welterweight Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson is highly regarded as one of the most feared strikers in MMA today, despite the oft-friendly persona he displays to the public and to his opponents in the UFC octagon.

But a group of kids exposed Thompson as being rather ordinary on the mat.

A video surfaced online showing Thompson playfully getting ready to take on a group of young people, presumably at one of the many camps he holds annually in South Carolina. While Thompson put up a good fight, he was unable to secure the takedown defense (s) and fell hard to the ground.

Obviously, this was all just a parody and for fun; but it shows why many around the UFC community love and respects Thompson inside and outside of the octagon. While it’s unclear when and where the playful scuffle took place, it’s surely entertaining.

The 38-year-old Thompson is on the brink yet again of another UFC welterweight title shot. He is scheduled to face former title challenger Gilbert Burns in the co-main event of UFC 264 on July 10th. An impressive performance against Burns is sure to all but guarantee a title shot against the champion Kamaru Usman for his next outing.

Thompson has been on a tear since suffering a knockout loss to Anthony Pettis at UFC Fight Night 148. He has earned back-to-back unanimous decision victories against Vicente Luque and Geoff Neal, showcasing his elite striking and high fight IQ in the octagon against a couple of dangerous opponents.

Thompson has had two title shots in the past against former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley. After a majority draw at UFC 205, the two squared off in an immediate rematch at UFC 209 in which Woodley earned the win by majority decision.

If Thompson eventually crosses paths with Usman, it’s almost a certainty that he’ll need to brush up on his takedown defense against one of the best wrestlers in UFC history. Hopefully his recent run-in with a group of kids is nothing more than a tough day at the office.

Colby Covington

UFC welterweight contender Colby Covington thinks that Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson shouldn’t be anywhere near the welterweight title picture, regardless of how his upcoming fight goes with Gilbert Burns at UFC 264.

Covington is still waiting on contract negotiations for a potential welterweight title rematch with Kamaru Usman. Thompson has emerged in the top-five after an impressive performance against Geoff Neal late last year.

Since being knocked out by Anthony Pettis, Thompson has rebounded in a big way with back-to-back wins. He is one of the few atop the UFC welterweight division who hasn’t fought against Usman yet and has been calling for a shot for months.

Covington fell to Usman at UFC 245 and won in his return to the octagon against former champion Tyron Woodley shortly thereafter. However, it’s safe to say that Covington doesn’t think Thompson has much stock when figuring out who should be Usman’s next title challenger.

“He’s gonna get hurt, for sure,” Covington said of Thompson. “He’s gonna come back for a paycheck, and these guys don’t know when to leave. You’ve got to know when it’s your time to hang it up. Your time has passed, you’re gonna get really hurt if you want to stay in this. But some guys want to take a paycheck to ruin their health.”

“He’s had, what, two or three title shots? He’s had more title shots than anyone in this division. He got destroyed by Woodley. He got dropped, bloody. Man, the guy’s a bum. I don’t know why he’s trying to talk like he deserves a title shot.”

Covington is widely expected to be the next opponent for Usman, who knocked out his former teammate Jorge Masvidal back at UFC 261 earlier this year. Covington has easily provided the toughest test to date for Usman despite falling by fifth-round knockout.

Thompson vs. Burns at UFC 264 is sure to be entertaining, and definitely a standup battle in its own right. A spectacular performance by either Burns or Thompson could give them the next title shot, despite UFC president Dana White already committing to Covington as the next title challenger.

Do you think Stephen Thompson deserves a title shot with a win over Gilbert Burns?

Stephen Thompson Tells Usman ‘You’re Not Quite There Yet’ Amid GSP Comparisons

UFC welterweight contender Stephen Thompson is not a fan of people who are comparing current 170lb king Kamaru Usman to one the greatest fighters of all time in Georges St-Pierre.

Usman spectacularly defended his welterweight strap for the third time against his former teammate, Gilbert Burns, at UFC 258 earlier this month.

‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ was dropped early but recovered well to beat up his opponent in round two and ultimately finish the fight in the third frame.

With this win, Usman continued his perfect record in the UFC. He has won 13 straight fights since joining the promotion and established a new welterweight record in the process – GSP previously held the record with 12 consecutive wins.

The record-breaking exploits of Usman have got MMA fans and pundits talking.

A section are now putting the Nigerian alongside or even above St-Pierre as the best 170lb fighter ever.

Thompson is not one of them and he made that much clear in a recent interview with Submission Radio.

“He is the best at the moment. And people are talking about him being up there with Georges St-Pierre, and I’m like, hold on, put the brakes on for a second,” Thompson said. “Like, you’ve defended it three times, and George St-Pierre I think was like nine or ten or twelve or something like that, he’s defended the title. I’m not really sure, but it was up there. And you’re not quite there yet. Yeah, he’s on the way, but he’s not quite there. That’s just in my eyes.”

‘Wonderboy’ is adamant Usman will have to face him at some point and sent a message to the champion, he said.

“Just let him know that I’m right behind him. To watch out for me. And he even said himself that one of the hardest guys in the division to prepare for is me. I’m gonna give him the hardest fight. But I’m getting better everyday too. Not just with my striking, but with my wrestling, my Jiu Jitsu, and wherever the fight goes I’m gonna be ready for it. And if we fought each other, I’m gonna be the one with my hands raised. So, let’s go, baby!”

Do you agree with Stephen Thompson? Are comparisons between Kamaru Usman and Georges St-Pierre premature?
